Q : What third party systems can I interface to the GNS systems? A : The GNS range can interface with the following systems : Goodrich STORMSCOPE WX-500 Series II Weather Mapping Sensor Goodrich SKYWATCH Traffic Advisory System (Model SKY497) Goodrich SKYWATCH HP Traffic Advisory System (Model SKY899) Bendix/King KTA870 TAS/KMH880 Multi-Hazard Awareness System Ryan TCAD 9900B and 9900BX Q : With the Garmin GTX 330/330D Mode S transponder can we get TIS in Europe? A : NO. The TIS (Traffic Information System) is only available in the USA. This is because the ASR 9 Mode S radars set up in the US have the software installed that allows the broadcasting of the traffic information. The European Mode S radar sites do not have this capability.
Q : Can we place orders for Panel mount updates with Garmin? A : This is not possible. Jeppesen are responsible for the subscription service. Included in each unit is a Jeppesen package which we suggest you give to the customer, this package includes pricing and contact details. If you lose this we suggest you ask the customer to contact Jeppesen directly www.jeppesen.com
Q : What is the difference between Diversity and Non Diversity with the GTX 330 Mode S transponders? A : Antenna Diversity is where two antennas are used , one on top of the fuselage and one below. The reason for this is that if the transponder is interrogated via a TCAS II aircraft the unit will decide which antenna to send the reply from. European requirements currently suggest that Diversity mode is for aircraft over 5700 Kgs or flies over 250KTS.

Q : Where has the mapping gone on my GNS 430/530 series unit? A : There is a common failure with customers calling Garmin asking the above question. The answer is that the user has press the CLR key while on the map page. The CLR key can be pressed three times to declutter the map page. The level of declutter is shown by the side of the zoom scale in the bottom left hand corner of the map page. First level is 1, the 2, and finally 3. One key press and the map page will go back to normal.

Q : Which Mapsource product should I sell with the different units? A : For the GPSMAP 295. The best product is the Mapsource European Metroguide (part no. 010-10370-00 page 17). This product allows the customer to load land-mapping data onto one of the various datacards. (page 15). The data includes the same level of detail as the European Roads & Recreation CD but also adds into memory the look up details of restaurants, hotels, petrol stations etc. The customer can use the look up function to find this data. NB : Even though the mapping data is loaded the GPSMAP 295 does not have any routing capability like that of the GPSMAP 196. It only provides straight line routing to the destination point. If the customer wants base map data for the Pacific region then the Worldmap would be suitable for this? A cartridge is needed for the data to be stored on. For the GPSMAP 196. Although the GPSMAP 196 has routing capability using its basemap this feature is very limited unless one of the automotive packages is used. (For Europe part number is 010-10403-01 page 17). This package contains the City select CD, which is not available as a separate item; it also contains a 64 mg cartridge, USB programmer and additional automotive mount. The land mapping data looks the same as the Metroguide and Roads & Rec CDs but when this data is loaded and used in the GPSMAP 196 it has special additional background data that allows the unit to complete a route from point A to B rather than straight line navigation. If the customer wants mapping data and the ability to look up addresses, restaurants etc then Mapsource Metroguide would be the choice. Lastly if the customer just wants to get mapping data with no look up capability at all then the Roads and Rec CD would be the choice.

The GPS III Pilot does not have any land mapping upload capability at all. Therefore we cannot recommend any of the CDs for this purpose. If the customer wants to just upload and download USER waypoints then the Worldmap would be the best option. If they want land mapping on the computer to create waypoints on a detailed map then the European Roads and Rec CD would be the product. METROGUIDE and the automotive packages are not recommended for this unit.
