Care for Your Honda Portable Navigation System
Your unit contains sensitive electronic components that can be permanently damaged if exposed to excessive shock or vibration. To minimize the risk of damage, avoid dropping your unit and operating it in high shock/vibration environments.

Clean the Unit

Your unit is constructed of high quality materials and does not require user maintenance other than cleaning. Clean the units outer casing (not the touch screen) using a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution and then wipe dry. Avoid chemical cleaners and solvents that can damage plastic components.

Clean the Touch Screen

Clean the touch screen with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth. Use water, isopropyl alcohol, or eyeglass cleaner, if needed. Apply the liquid to the cloth and then gently wipe the touch screen.

Protect Your Unit

Follow the cautions below to protect your unit from damage: Do not store the unit where prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures can occur (such as in the trunk of a car), as permanent damage may result. Do not expose the unit to water. Contact with water can cause this unit to malfunction. Do not leave your unit in plain sight when you leave your vehicle. Take your unit with you or remove it from view to avoid theft. Though a PDA stylus can also be used to operate the touch screen, never attempt this while operating a vehicle. Never use a hard or sharp object to operate the touch screen or damage may result.

Use a Remote Antenna

You can use an optional external remote antenna (Garmin GA 27C). This is very helpful when operating the unit in a vehicle with a coated windshield or an in-screen (in the window) heating system, which can block GPS signals. To purchase, go to the Garmin Web site at www.garmin.com/hondaportablenavigation and select the Accessories link.

To connect the antenna:

1. Flip up the antenna. 2.Connect the antennas connector to the MCX connector located on the side of the antenna. See page 1.
Purchase Additional MapSource Maps
If you register your Honda Portable Navigation System, you will receive notification of map updates. To register, go to http://my.garmin.com. You can purchase additional MapSource map data from Garmin and load the maps on your units internal memory or on an optional SD card. To enable (unlock) additional maps, you need your unit ID (see page 44) and serial number (8-digit number located on the back of the unit). Follow the instructions that came with the new map data to properly install the maps to your computer. To load maps to your units memory or SD card, select the name for your nuvi drive or SD card drive. Refer to the MapSource Help file for more information about using MapSource and loading maps on your unit.

USB Interface Troubleshooting

Problem/Question

How do I know my unit is in USB Mass Storage Mode? My computer does not sense that the unit is connected.

Solution/Answer

When your unit is in USB Mass Storage Mode, a picture of a Honda Portable Navigation System connected to a computer is shown. Also, you should see a new removable disk drive listed in My Computer (Windows) or a new volume (drive) on your desktop (Mac). 1.Unplug the USB cable from your computer. 2.Turn the unit off and then back on again. 3.Plug the USB cable into your computer. The unit automatically turns on and goes into USB Mass Storage Mode. Try the solution listed above. If you have several network drives mapped on your computer, Windows may have trouble assigning drive letters to your nuvi drives. Follow the steps on the following page to assign your drive letters. Verify that your computer has the latest updates installed. If not, update your computer, and then connect the unit.

Garmin Wins Top Car Manufacturer Aftermarket Solution Deal
Garmin today announced that Garmin will supply the BMW Group with the Garmin nvi 360 as a customized portable navigation solution for the BMW 1 and 3 Series. This system has numerous customizations that make it unique to BMW such as the BMW logo on the navigation devices exterior casing, BMW logo on the welcome screen, BMW dealer database and tailored mounting system, said Roger Jollis, Garmins director of OEM & mobile marketing. It integrates seamlessly into the vehicle and we are confident BMW owners will be pleased with the systems style, reliability and versatility. The BMW Navigation Portable system includes a customized mounting bracket that allows owners to mount the nvi directly to the interior trim on the instrument panel, rather than to the windshield via a suction cup mount like traditional Garmin portable navigation systems. BMWs mounting system was designed specifically for the 1 and 3 Series and is positioned for optimal use by the driver. The special bracket is powered by BMWs onboard network and eliminates the need for exposed power cables. The mount charges the nvis built-in battery so that the device may also be used outside of the car when navigating a city as a pedestrian. The portable navigation device combines advanced technology with a user-friendly interface to ensure an intuitive and easy navigation experience.
The BMW Navigation portable system, based on Garmins nvi 360, has a bright, 3.5-inch touchscreen display with three-dimensional automatic routing with turn-by-turn voice-prompted directions that speak street names making it easy to find your way anywhere. It also includes premium features such as Bluetooth wireless technology, MP3 player, audio book player, currency converter and world travel clock. The Bluetooth feature, coupled with an integrated microphone and speaker, lets users dial phone numbers through the devices touchscreen keypad (for supported phones). Users may look up and dial numbers from their personalized phone book or from the phones call history log that shows calls received, calls dialled and calls missed. The nvi can also dial numbers from its points of interest database locations like hotels, restaurants, and attractions. The nvi 360 navigation package fits current production BMW 1 and 3 Series automobiles. This announcement marks Garmins second customized portable navigation system with the BMW AG family. Last year, MINI announced a specially configured retrofit mobile navigation system, also based on the Garmin nvi 360, for use in any model in the MINI range.
