Product performs well. Easy to use.Draw back, direct walloutlet charger was not supplied with purchase. This purchase is an absolute Homerun! Garmin will honor your purchase from Overstock and Update your map program for free. I resently had to take a trip to Chicago and for years I relied on a map on the steering wheel or my wifes directions.

To be honest & fair I have waited a month + to make this review just to make sure to be fair about it. Have been using this GPS in MN without any issues for about 10 days now. Hurry up and buy one, what are you waiting for?? Ease of use, great features. I would never have known this unit was recertified.

Frequency Selection Tips

For best results, select a frequency below 90.1 FM. When searching for an appropriate FM frequency on your FM stereo, look for an unused frequency that has steady, consistent static. If you hear slight noises and sounds in the background of the static, choose a different frequency. As you travel, you might need to change the frequency for the FM transmitter. A frequency not used by a radio station in your area might be used by a station elsewhere.
The distance between the vehicle power cable, the nvi, and the FM stereo antenna may also affect the noise level. Vehicles with antennas located far away, such as a rear-mounted antenna, may experience more interference from outside noise sources than vehicles with front-mounted antennas. As you drive, you may notice changes in the background static even though there is no FM station using that channel. You may notice this as you drive through intersections where certain kinds of traffic lights or other municipal electronic systems are operating. You might also notice this effect when the terrain changes, allowing distant stations to be received by your car stereo that were not received when you made your initial frequency selection. These and other sources of electrical interference may make it necessary to look for another frequency.
FM Transmitter Information
The FM transmitter is intended to transmit your nvis audio to your FM stereo. Do not adjust your FM settings while you are driving your vehicle.

About GPS Satellite Signals

Caring for Your nvi

Your nvi must acquire GPS (Global Positioning System) satellite signals to navigate. If you are indoors, near tall buildings or trees, or in a parking garage, your nvi cannot acquire satellites. Go outside to an area free from tall obstructions to use your nvi. When your nvi has acquired satellite signals, the signal strength bars on the Menu page are green. When it loses satellite signals, the bars turn red or clear. For more information about GPS, go to www.garmin.com/aboutGPS.
Your nvi contains sensitive electronic components that can be permanently damaged if exposed to excessive shock or vibration. To minimize the risk of damage to your nvi, avoid dropping your unit and operating it in high-shock and high-vibration environments.

Cleaning the Unit

The nvi is constructed of high-quality materials and does not require user maintenance other than cleaning. Clean the units outer casing (not the touch screen) using a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution, and then wipe dry. Avoid chemical cleaners and solvents that can damage plastic components.
Cleaning the Touch Screen
Clean the touch screen with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth. Use water, isopropyl alcohol, or eyeglass cleaner, if needed. Apply the liquid to the cloth, and then gently wipe the touch screen.

Avoiding Theft

Protecting Your nvi
Do not store the nvi where prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures can occur, because it can cause permanent damage. Do not expose the nvi to water. Contact with water can cause this unit to malfunction. Though a PDA stylus can be used to operate the touch screen, never attempt this while operating a vehicle. Never use a hard or sharp object to operate the touch screen, or damage may result.
To avoid theft, remove the unit and mount from sight when not in use. Remove the residue on the windshield left by the suction cup. Do not keep your unit in the glove compartment. Register your product at http://my.garmin.com. Use the Garmin Lock feature. See page 44.

Warning: This product contains a non-user-replaceable lithium-ion battery. See the Important Safety and Product Information guide in the product box for important battery safety information. Check your state and local traffic laws before mounting. Currently, state laws in California and Minnesota prohibit drivers from using suction mounts on their windshields while operating motor vehicles. Other Garmin dashboard or friction mounting options should be used. See the Important Safety and Product Information guide for more details.

Step 1: Mount the nvi

1. Plug the vehicle power cable into the power connector on the right side of the cradle. 2. Snap the cradle onto the suction cup arm. 3. Clean and dry your windshield and the suction cup with a lint-free cloth. Remove the clear plastic from the suction cup. Place the suction cup on the windshield. 4. Flip the lever back, toward the windshield. 5. Fit the bottom of your nvi into the cradle. 6. Tilt the nvi back until it snaps into place. 7. Plug the other end of the vehicle power cable into a power outlet in your vehicle. Your unit should turn on automatically if it is plugged in and your vehicle is running. 8. If you are using a traffic receiver in Europe, secure the traffic receivers antenna to the windshield using the suction cups. (The traffic receiver is included in some nvi 710, 750T, 760, and 770 packages.)

Adding a Via Point

1. With a route active, touch Menu on the map, and touch Where to. 2. Search for the via point (extra stop). 3. Touch Go. 4. Touch Add as Via Point to add this stop before your destination.
The Map page displays or when there is traffic on your route. The number in the icon represents the number of minutes the traffic has added to your route, which has been automatically calculated into the arrival time shown on the map.
1. On the Map page, touch or. 2. Touch to view traffic delays. 3. Touch Avoid.
Tip: To add more than one stop, edit the current route. Touch Where to > Routes.

Using FM TMC Traffic

The traffic receiver is included in some nvi 710, 750T, 760, and 770 packages. If the nvi is connected to the FM TMC traffic receiver, connected to vehicle power, and you are in a coverage area, the nvi can receive traffic delay information. For more information, visit www.garmin.com/traffic. When calculating your route, the nvi examines the current traffic and automatically optimizes the route for the shortest time. You might still be routed through traffic if no alternative roads exist. If a severe traffic delay occurs on your route while you are navigating, the nvi automatically recalculates the route.
Note: You do not need to activate the subscription included with your FM traffic receiver (if it came with one). The subscription activates automatically after your nvi acquires satellite signals while receiving traffic signals from the pay service provider.

Using Hands-Free Features
Bluetooth wireless technology is available in nvi 710, 760, and 770 only. Hands-free phone features are available only if your nvi and your compatible mobile phone have Bluetooth wireless technology. Not all phones support all the hands-free phone features the nvi provides. To use the handsfree features, you must pair your phone and the nvi.
1. Confirm that your phone is supported by the nvi. (See www.garmin.com/bluetooth.) 2. From the Menu page, touch Tools > Settings > Bluetooth. 3. Touch the Add button. 4. Enable your phones Bluetooth component and enable Find Me/Discoverable/Visible mode. These settings might be in a Bluetooth, Connections, or Hands-free menu. 5. Touch OK on the nvi. 6. Select your phone, and touch OK. 7. Enter the nvis Bluetooth PIN (1234) in your phone. 1. Touch Phone > Dial. 2. Enter the number, and touch Dial. 3. To end the call, touch > End Call.

Pairing Your Phone

Using Call Waiting
If you get a call waiting call, the nvi displays a message. Touch Answer. The first call is put on hold.
1. During the call, touch > Switch To. 2. Touch End Call to hang up; this does not disconnect the call on hold.

Using the FM Transmitter

Before using the FM transmitter in your area, see the FM transmitter legal notice in the owners manual.

Calling a Number

Receiving a Call
When you receive a call, a message appears on the nvi. Touch Answer.
You can listen to your nvi audio on your vehicles FM stereo speakers. From the Menu page, touch Volume > FM Trans > Enable FM Transmitter. If you are using an FM traffic receiver, touch Auto Tune, and tune your stereo to the same channel. If you are not using an FM traffic receiver or you are using an MSN Direct receiver, select an FM channel with a lot of static, and select the same channel on the nvi.
Loading Files on Your nvi
Connect the USB cable to the mini-USB connector on the nvi and to an available USB port on your computer. Your nvis internal memory and SD card appear as removable drives in My Computer on Windows computers, and as mounted volumes on Mac computers. Copy and paste files from your computer into the nvi drives/volumes. When you are finished transferring files, click the Eject icon or drag the volume icon to the Trash. Unplug your nvi.
1. Touch Tools > Settings > Security. 2. Touch the button below Garmin Lock. 3. Enter a 4-digit PIN and drive to a security location.

Locking Your nvi

NOTE: If you forget your PIN and your security location, you must send your nvi to Garmin to get it unlocked. You must also send a valid product registration or proof of purchase.

Listening to MP3 Files

Load MP3 files to the internal memory or SD card. Touch Tools > Media Player. Touch Source to open the music player. Touch Browse. Touch a category. To play the entire category from the beginning of the list, touch Play All. To play a specific song, touch the title. To create, edit, and listen to playlists, touch Browse > Playlist.

Resetting the nvi

If the nvi screen stops functioning, turn the nvi off and on again. If this does not help, slide the Power key to the left and hold for 8 seconds. Turn the nvi back on. The nvi should operate normally.
