GN 9120 Wireless Headset System Frequently Asked Questions
Overview Question 1 What is the GN 9120? The GN 9120 is a lightweight completely wireless headset system with unique conferencing capabilities. In addition to unprecedented range and battery life, the product is designed for discrete and confidential conferencing, allowing up to four participants to join together on one call without the use of a speakerphone. With the introduction of the GN 9120, GN Netcom is proud to introduce the Executive Telephony line of products, state of the art communications tools for the office or wherever you work. What GN 9120 models are offered for sale? GN 9120 wireless headsets are available in the following three models: GN 9120 Part No. Description List Price 9120-48-05 9120-30-05 9120-28-05 Question 3 GN 9120 Base & Midi-Boom Headset GN 9120 Base & SoundTube Boom Headset GN 9120 Base & Flex-Boom Headset $349 USD $349 USD $369 USD

Question 2

What headsets will the GN 9120 work with? The GN 9120 is a system and includes both the base and a headset. Users can choose between three headset boom styles: GN Netcom's signature SoundTube boom, a flex boom with advanced noise-filtering microphone and a new contemporary midi-boom. Is the GN 9120 comfortable to wear? Yes. The GN 9120 converts into two convenient wearing styles. The first style offers a comfortable and secure headband. By replacing the headband with the SureFit earhook, the GN 9120 can be worn directly on one ear. With the GN 9120, how far can I roam from the base? The GN 9120 offers mobility of up to 300 feet from the base. Call answer, termination and volume controls are located on the headset and can be operated within this range. How long can I use the GN 9120 before it needs to be recharged? The GN 9120's smart power management provides users with eight hours of talk time. The system discerns how far the user is from the base and adjusts signal strength appropriately throughout the duration of the call. To extend talk time, recharge the battery by placing the headset in the base between calls. Does the GN 9120 have the same great sound quality and security provisions as other GN Netcom wireless products? Yes, like GN Netcom's other wireless products, the GN 9120 uses the 2.4 GHz frequency and Digital Spread Spectrum (DSS) technology. Hopping frequencies 90 times per second in search of the clearest unused channel, DSS delivers the best sound and the tightest security. 64-bit encryption provides an additional level of security in all GN Netcom wireless products. This symmetric key encryption works like a secret code where only the headset and base know the code. On top of that, the GN 9120 uses smart power management to extend battery life. In doing so, the signal is only as strong as it needs to be in order to reach the base station. Since the signal isn't broadcast beyond that range, it cannot be picked up outside of that area.

Functionality Question 8 How does the conferencing feature work? Unique to the GN 9120 is its multi-unit conferencing ability, which enables up to four individual GN 9120 units to be linked in to a conference call. Once a connection has been established, those users who wish to participate in the conversation merely need to briefly synch their headsets to the same charging station. For security and privacy reasons, the originator will hear a beep on his or her headset, indicating that another user wants to participate in the call, at which point authorization can be granted. Once on the call, the participants can spread out within the full 300-foot range. Will the GN 9120 work with the GN 1000 Remote Handset Lifter? Yes, the GN 9120 is handset lifter compatible, allowing you to answer calls, and hang up while away from your desk. With the GN 9120, how do I adjust the volume, tone and mute as well as answer and end calls? The GN 9120 has three easy to use buttons on the headset. By pressing a combination of these buttons, all of the necessary adjustments, as well as answering and ending calls (with GN 1000 RHL), can easily be made. How many GN 9120 systems can you put in one location? As with other wireless technologies, it is difficult to specify an exact number because environmental factors vary greatly from location to location. However, compared to 900 MHz systems, a given area will generally support twice as many 2.4 GHz systems such as the GN 9120. We recommend a maximum of 50 GN 9120 systems per location. Is the GN 9120 a multipurpose amplifier? Yes, the GN 9120 is compatible with virtually all business phones. It has both carbon and electret settings. Refer to the GN Netcom Compatibility Guide for more information.

Question 12
Audible Tones Question 13 Question 14 When using a handset lifter with the GN 9120, how am I alerted to an incoming call? The GN 9120 alerts you to an incoming call by an audible tone in your headset. How can I tell when the mute function is activated? When the mute function is activated, you will hear an audible tone in your headset at 15 seconds intervals. How do I know when I am out of range? If you move out of range, a tone sounds in your headset every 10 seconds. Calls are not disconnected when out of range, but are in effect, put on hold. Move back into range to re-establish communications. Audible Indicators Out of Range Tone in headset every 10 seconds Mute Low Battery Incoming Call Tone in headset every 15 seconds Tone in headset every 20 seconds Tone in headset with RHL use

Batteries Question 16 How long does it take to fully charge the battery? Recommended charge time is 1.5 hours to fully charge the battery. At least 20 minutes of charging is required before its first use. How long before a GN 9120 battery needs recharging? The GN 9120 battery provides up to eight hours of continuous talk time. What type of battery does the GN 9120 use? The GN 9120 uses a Lithium Ion (Li-Ion), 3.7 V (max. current 500mA) field replaceable battery (GN Netcom part number 2901-249). How will I know when I have a low battery? If your battery is low, you will hear a beep in your headset every 20 seconds. To recharge the battery, place the headset into the charging port on the base. The battery charging LED on the base flashes continuously during charging and stays lit but stops flashing when the battery is fully charged. Will the headset become warm while charging? It may. It is normal for rechargeable batteries to get warm during charging. It is also common for the initial charging temperature to be higher than subsequent charging sessions. The GN 9120 has been tested for safe operation and conforms to both UL and FCC product safety specifications. Will the headset's battery power the GN 9120 base when the electricity is off? No, the GN 9120's base has no battery and is powered only by the AC power supply.

The GN Ellipse is still the best selling 2.4 GHz wireless headset in the industry, with more than a full day's battery life and a choice of commercial grade headsets from the entire GN Netcom product line. The GN 9120 is ideal for the user who is typically on the phone between 2-5 hours per day, who wants to roam and unobtrusive executive styling is important.
