Minesweeping in Segrate: 3 Italia and Pupillo at the disposal of the Civil Defence Service.
The Operations room always in visible contact with the area of the intervention, thanks to the use of the UMTS videocamera of 3 Italia
After the drill of last 29 October, Pupillo the UMTS videocamera of 3 Italia, the Mobile Media Company of the Hutchison Whampoa Group, Italian leader of UMTS with over 4,8 million clients (data from September 30, 2005) will be a useful assistant for the Civil Defence Service in the minesweeping operations that will take place in the Segrate area next Sunday, November 27th, 2005. Connected by a videocall with the area of the intervention, the control room of Segrate and the Prefecture of Milan will follow in real time, the development of the operations: Pupillo, in fact, will send the images directly to the screen of the Control room, answering the videocall sent by the computer. Additionally, some dedicated software will, work alongside the various footage of the videocameras set in the area, to provide a complete picture of the situation and a better coverage of the area of the intervention. Tested last month during another drill of the Civil Defence Service of the Comitato Operativo Misto 20, in Somaglia Lodigiana Pupillo proved its usefulness in sending live images to the control room of the Prefecture, from where the operators could follow and co ordinate the relief operations with an added aid: long distance vision. Among the features most appreciated by the Civil defence Service, Pupillos endurance, in that it can be video called for almost 4 hours, and the speed when recharging the battery. These are qualities that adapt well to emergency situations. Easy and intuitive, Pupillo does not require specific knowledge from the personnel working in the area: the videocamera is easy to move, it can be activated very simply and, thanks to the infrared, it works also in the absence of light. 3 Italia Is the Mobile Media Company controlled by the Hutchison Whampoa Group, shareholder of 94,5%. 3 Italy launches Pupillo, the first UMTS videocamera in the world able to answer a videocall.
It costs 149 euro and can receive videocalls from 5 different 3 Italy numbers.
It is called Pupillo and it is the first videocamera in the world that can be remotely activated by a simple videocall. With an elegant and minimalist design and small dimensions (80 x 93.5 x 121.3 mm and a 245 grams weight), Pupillo has an UMTS number with the dialing code 178 and can be placed anywhere in the house, like a refined and futuristic ornament or a small discrete appliance that can be easily attached to the ceiling or the wall with the built in fastener. Simple and intuitive, Pupillo is handy and safe to use: set up or pc connection is not necessary. Pupillo works with a normal power supply or by battery: 4 hours in videocall, 3 hours in night vision and 300 hours in stand-by. With Pupillo it is now possible to keep an eye on the things you hold dear, at any time, from work, from home, on the move just with a simple videocall from a 3 videophone. So mom and dad can keep an eye on the children, even when there is a baby sitter at home. Or they can check, even several times a day, that their older parents are well, without having to battle traffic in the car, utilize a home-care device or make them run for the phone. Pupillo is also a window on the things we care about: it allows one to easily take a look at whats happening inside the home, at the car parked in the garage, at the boat berthed at the dock or even at the vacation home. Pupillo integrates security systems because it allows you to verify in person what has happened at home or in the shop, before having to run and check, perhaps even uselessly in case of a false alarm triggered by a sensitive anti-theft device. Pupillo has a visual field of 58 in diagonal, 46 in horizontal and 38 in vertical and, thanks to an infrared sensor, offers clear images also in the dark. Some settings, like the list of the numbers authorized to videocall, can be modified also by SMS. Pupillo respects privacy: it can be disarmed during the videocall by simply turning the lens. Plus, in addition to being equipped with a 3 number like any other videophone it also has a secret code that must be keyed in at the start of the call: its the only way to access what Pupillo sees and hears. For additional security, only 5 numbers can be authorized to dial the PIN, to avoid that someone guesses or discovers the code by accident.
To summarize, Pupillo is: simple, no installation required; easily accessible, just a videocall from the videophone and it turns on automatically; discrete, with no ringtones that could disturb the peace and quiet: the connection is signaled by a brief beep and a green light; reliable, because its technology allows for perfect night vision for complete peace of mind; safe, because only 5 authorized numbers are allowed to access Pupillos images: in no way can unauthorized people gain access not even by error.
Pupillo functions exclusively in Italy and under 3 Italys UMTS coverage. It will be available starting the first week of September in all the 3 shops or in the shop section of the website www.tre.it for 149 euro.
