BatchGPS is a utility program that complements the work of Canberra main spectrometry software, Genie-2000. Using BatchGPS you can perform series of data acquisitions with a minimum operational intervention and with possibilities to store together with the full spectral data (CAM files) the geographical coordinates from a Global Positioning System (GPS) device. Therefore, BatchGPS is ideally suited for: Large area scanning measurements, being from terrestrial or aerial vehicles. Scanning measurements of large objects, like rods, walls, pipes, etc. Automatic and repetitive spectrometry measurements of any kind.

Main features of BatchGPS program are: Performs unlimited and unattended (batch) series of spectrum acquisition using any Canberra equipment. Resulting CAM files are automatically saved under specified location with a predefined file name. GPS control and readout. When the corresponding hardware available the readout of the GPS device will be stored into the CAM file (*.CNF) using predefined CAM parameters. The batch is controlled via a set of parameters, stored into a Setup file;
which is a block-structured ASCII file. Individual measurements in the batch can be modified to have different settings. Practical and minimum, but sufficient, graphical user interface (GUI) for setting up a batch measurement and monitoring its current status and GPS data. Limited hardware control is provided. E.g., Rise Time, Flat Top, High Voltage, Preset Time, etc. No need of Genie-2000 protection key to run the software.
the GPS can be enabled or disabled and its settings are stored into the setup file as well. The program can be provided with a GPS receiver (see below) or, alternatively, you can plug-in your own GPS device. BatchGPS software is able to communicate with any NMEA0198-compatible GPS device.

Requirements

Computer: The software runs on MS Windows 98, 2000 and XP. If GPS option enabled, a free COM port (Serial, USB or PS/2) should be available. GPS: If GPS is not provided as part of the package: the software should be able to communicate with any NMEA0183compatible GPS receiver that uses serial port, USB, Bluetooth or any generic bridge to serial port communications. If GPS provided as part of the package1: Standard option: HAICOM HI-202E USB or HAICOM HI-204E PS2/USB mini DIN. Both in ruggidized, waterproof case, with bottom magnetic pad and connection cable of ~ 2 m long. Advance: DeLorme Bluetooth or wireless GPS receivers. Please contact us for options, arrangements and prices. Spectrometry: Any currently supported Canberra data acquisition hardware. Recommended: Canberra uniSPEC Nai-based spectrometry system. It is NOT necessary to have installed a full version of Genie-2000 software in the local PC. The run-time version is sufficient. However in order to setup detectors and tune the corresponding hardware it is recommended. The software does NOT need of a Genie2000 protection key to run. Description

With increasing public awareness of radiation issues and tightens of radiological safety around the world together with the remarkable evolution of spectrometry equipment and GPS devices new frontiers have been open. Presently, there is a great need for large area radiological surveys for accessing the total level of radioactivity and the specific presence of radioactive nuclides. These inspections are often done using mobile vehicles at terrestrial level or using aircrafts, therefore the exact geographical positions need to be known and attached to the measurements results. G2kBatch is a software that complements the work of Canberra main spectroscopy software Genie-2000. The software executes the collection of data in set of series of measurements (Batch) without any operator intervention using any Canberra instrument and with the capabilities of controlling a GPS receiver. Each resulting spectra is automatically saved into pre-defined location following a specific naming convention. Waiting time between acquisitions can be defined as well. When a GPS is active, the control of a GPS device is established and its data is saved into the CAM files as well. The software exposes minimal GUI, but at the same time a sufficient one to inspect the status of the batch measurements, report the actual throughput (CPS) and GPS data. The GPS GUI part can be hidden\expanded as desired. The batch can be controlled via a few parameters, which are stored into Setup initialization (INI) file. Therefore, sets of batch parameters can be stored into different Setup files and loaded at convenience. The Setup file is a block-structured ASCII formatted file and can be edited with a simple text editor (e.g. MS Notepad). Parameters for each particular measurement in the batch can be changed to have its individual value, different from the rest of measurements in the batch (e.g. acquisition time, waiting time, etc).
