What To Say: AB 2 Compatibility Issues Rev. 2.0 ~ 30-Jan-09 MHH Page 1
Field Quality Issues Central Quality Group
Issue: Consumer reports compatibility issues between an AB 2 and older Harman Kardon AVRs What to Say: The AB 2 is fully compatible with the Harman Kardon AVR 3550HD, and performs virtually all functions when used with an AVR 347 and AVR 350. Unfortunately, when it is used with AVR x45 and prior series models, the units keypad may not operate all AVR features. We apologize for this and offer the following suggestions: When a Harman Kardon Zone II remote, or any remote programmed with Harman Kardon IR codes is used in conjunction with the AB 2 and a Harman Kardon A-Bus Ready AVR, the remote will control the AVR through the AB 2s internal sensor. Full compatibility is available with the AB 1 module and a Harman Kardon Zone II remote, or any remote programmed with Harman Kardon IR codes.

Harman Kardon AB 2 Testing here in NY office with AVR 347 and ABUS hub
How you learned of problem.
Detailed description of the problem
Product does not work as per the Owners Manual.:
CD Source Control When the AB 2 is used with a Harman Kardon ABH 4000 or other compatible multizone ABUS hub and when a CD player is connected to Source 2 of the hub, tap this button to select the CD player as the source and begin play (if the player was not already playing). Tap the button again to pause play. If audio is not heard within a few moments of the first tap, tap the button again, as the CD player may have already been playing and would have interpreted the command as a Pause. If this button was previously tapped to start play, press and hold the button to skip to the next disc (assuming the player is a multidisc unit). Keypad (incl. remote) Does not control OTHER brand product, without other brand remote control used for IR pass-through. OM does not indicate HK product only. DVD Source Control When the AB 2 is used with a Harman Kardon ABH 4000 or other compatible multizone ABUS hub, and when a DVD player is connected to Source 3 of the hub, tap this button to select the DVD player as the source and begin play. If this button was previously tapped to select the DVD player as the source, press and hold the button to begin play. Keypad (incl. remote) Does not control OTHER brand product, without other brand remote control used for IR pass-through. OM does not indicate HK product only. MP3 Source Control When the AB 2 is used with a Harman Kardon ABH 4000 or other compatible multizone ABUS hub, and when an MP3 player is connected to Source 4 of the hub, tap or press and hold this button to select the MP3 player as the source. When connected direct to AVR, has no effect. No source selection. When connected to Hub, will select Source #4, but will not send command for Play through Keypad (incl. remote) OM does not indicate HK product only. Step Seven (Optional): Switch keypads. You may switch keypads to better reflect the source devices connected to the ABH 4000 or other multizone hub. The Power Off/Mute, Skip Up/Down and Volume Up/Down keys remain the same, but the source names change from AVR to TN (tuner), CD to SAT, DVD to VID, and MP3 to The Bridge icon. AVR button on keypad is multi-function to switch to TUN/ DMP. OM indicates change MP3 button to Bridge. MP3 button has no effect on AVR, only selection through Hub. The Bridge/DMP has no analog connections so no way to connect to hub directly.
