The clowns are in the building, ready to shake things up!
Thats the phrase that the clowns use when they enter Hasbro Childrens Hospitals doors. And shake things up they do, once a week without fail. The clowns are from the Big Apple Circus Clown Care program, which trains men and women to entertain the children who need it most. Thanks to Hasbro, Inc. these clowns are not under the big top or performing in three ringsthey do their magic in a hospital hallway, in the emergency

department or by a childs bedside. Hasbros clowns always come in pairs, dressed as outrageous doctors with red noses, gigantic shoes and painted faces.They make their rounds, administering not medicine, but a dose of laughter. The clowns offer the children a chance to be just thatchildren.They can giggle as a clown pulls supplies from a bag and administers a chocolate milk transfusion, they can cheer as a clown performs a red nose transplant on another patient. The hospital room becomes lighthearted and the patients become kids again.
They make their rounds, administering not medicine, but a dose of laughter.
Remembering the Past and Looking Toward the Future
Right from the start, the creation of Hasbro Childrens Hospital was a labor of love for everyone involved. Designing a facility that was easy for families to navigate, efficient for staff and, most of all, welcoming for children, was the dream. Fifteen years ago this year, the dream became a reality, thanks to our many friends and donors in the community.
States Only Pediatric Transport Team Established
The team is on call 24 hours a day to provide an immediate response, and each year transports more than 300 patients to the hospitals pediatric intensive care unit.
Worlds Youngest Patient Received Lifesaving Radiation Therapy
A medical-surgical team used a new form of intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) called INTRABEAM to prevent recurrence of a metastatic brain lesion in a four-year-old boy.The patient was the youngest in the world to receive radiation therapy during surgery for a brain tumor.
In-Utero Fetal Surgery Successfully Performed for the First Time in the Northeast
The pioneering procedure was performed on 22-week-old twin fetuses suffering from the often fatal twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.
Rhode Islands First Pediatric Kidney Transplant Performed
Today, Hasbro Childrens Hospital is one of only five sites in New England to offer pediatric kidney transplants.

Rare Microvascular Procedure Saved Young Girls Hand
The innovative surgery, which involved removing bone and blood vessels from the girls leg, allowed the physicians to surgically save the girls hand while successfully removing the tumor.

First Pediatric Imaging Center in the Region Opened at Hasbro Childrens Hospital
The Center of Pediatric Imaging offers a complete range of services, including sedation, MRI and CT, exclusively for children.
Hasbro Childrens Hospital Expanded Pediatric Cardiac Services

A letter of thanks

I recently realized how fortunate we are to have access to the level of specialized pediatric care that Hasbro Childrens Hospital provides so close to home. From the moment the transport team arrived to bring my one-year-old son to Hasbro Childrens, I knew he, and we, were in the hands of a superb medical facility. Walking through the doors of the emergency room, my fears were calmed by an instant sense of relief as I realized we had arrived at the right place with the right people. The doctors and nurses embraced the needs of my son and almost immediately created a plan that provided my aching heart and mind with the comfort of knowing he would receive the medical care he needed to get better. Sincerely, For the next week, we lived in the PICU, hanging on to every word of hope the doctors and nurses could provide. Their level of confidence did not waiver. They were determined, kind, supportive, and genuinely cared about my son. It was a team effort every step of the way. I am eternally grateful that our story ends well. Thank you to everyone at Hasbro Childrens Hospital who played an important role in making this possible.

The 2009 Rhode Island National Guard Air Show at Quonset Point in North Kingstown will be held on June 27 and 28. Proceeds from parking will be donated to Hasbro Childrens Hospital.
