To connect your BladeSystem to outside networks and storage, HP offers a variety of options to support your familiar standards such as Ethernet, Fibre Channel and InfiniBand. The built-in Virtual Connect architecture includes a 5 Terabit backplane, supports 4 redundant fabrics at once and includes 8, high-performance interconnect bays. Ethernet Mezzanine Cards The QLogic QMH4062 1GbE iSCSI Adapter is a dual port fully integrated Gigabit Ethernet iSCSI target mezzanine optimized for iSCSI traffic from an c-Class ProLiant server. It is an alternative to less integrated iSCSI offerings and often more costly non TCP/IP implementations. Designed for ultimate performance, the QMH4062 provides full stateful offloading of iSCSI and TCP/IP traffic for both Microsoft Windows and Linux. The adapter supports iSCSI boot certification for VMware ESX Server 3.5 and ESXi 3.5. The QMH4062 is IPv6 compliant providing an end-to-end IPv6 solution when using either a Cisco Catalyst Blade Switch 3120 for HP with the IPv6 software upgrade or the Ethernet Pass-Thru. The NC512m is a dual port 10 Gigabit Ethernet network server adapter supporting stateful TCP offloading. It offers the highest bandwidth available in a ProLiant Ethernet c-Class adapter. Two NC512m adapter is supported on all ProLiant c-Class servers in mezzanine slot 2 or 3 (full height servers) and slot 2 (half height servers) providing up to sixty-four (64) 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapter ports per c7000 enclosure and thirty-two (32) per c3000 enclosure. The x4 PCI Express NC364m is supported on both HP Integrity and ProLiant c-Class servers in all mezzanine slots. The HP NC360m is a dual port 1 GbE BL-c network adapter providing two Gigabit Ethernet ports on a single mezzanine card. The NC360m is designed for applications requiring additional Gigabit Ethernet ports than those provided on the server. Like the NC360m, the NC326m is a dual port Gigabit Ethernet adapter designed for applications requiring additional Gigabit Ethernet ports than those provided on the server. Port Mapping

Standard Features (HP BladeSystem c-Class Interconnect Components)
Port mapping differs slightly between full height and half height server blades due to the support for additional Mezzanine cards on the full height version. HP has simplified the processes of mapping Mezzanine ports to switch ports by providing intelligent management tools via the Onboard Administrator and HP Insight Manager Software. The Onboard Administrator Guide, Enclosure Setup and Installation Guide provides detailed information on port mapping.

The BL2x220c Blade has a different I/O mapping for server I/O ports to expansion bays than existing half-height servers. The BL2x220c contains 2 server nodes that share a single half-height bay. Installing the switch

CAUTION: Do not cable the switch until after configuration. IMPORTANT: Make sure that the server NIC configuration matches the switch bay selected. NOTE: When installing two switches, there is one switch interconnect port between adjacent I/O bays. Port 17 is disabled by default. The port must be manually enabled to use.

Planning the switch configuration
The switch ships with a default configuration in which all downlink and uplink ports are enabled and assigned a default VLAN with a VID equal to 1. This default configuration simplifies the initial setup by allowing use of a single uplink cable (from any external Ethernet connector) to connect the server blade enclosure to the network. Assess the particular server environment to determine any requirements for other considerations. The switch does not affect or determine NIC numeration and the associated mapping of NIC interfaces to switch ports. The numbering of the NICs on the server (for example, NIC 1, NIC 2, NIC 3) is determined by the server type, the server operating system, and which NICs are enabled on the server.

NOTE: Port 18 is reserved for connection to the Onboard Administrator module for switch management. This allows a user to enable the functionality of future firmware upgrade releases. The Onboard Administrator module controls all port enabling. Enabling is based on matching ports between the server and the interconnect bay. Before power up, the Onboard Administrator module verifies that the server NIC option matches the switch bay that is selected and enables all ports for the NICs installed. Accessing the switch
The switch is accessed remotely using the Ethernet ports or locally using the DB-9 management serial port. To access the switch remotely:

Insert the XFP transceiver. With latch closed, be sure that the transceiver is fully seated and securely in place.
Assign an IP address. By default, the switch is set up to obtain its IP address from a BOOTP server existing on the attached network. From the BOOTP server, use the switch MAC address to obtain the switch IP address. From a computer connected to the same network, use the IP address to access the switch using a Web browser or telnet application, which enables access to the switch BBI or CLI. The switch logon prompt appears. NOTE: If the switch does not obtain the IP address by means of the BOOTP service, access the switch locally and configure the IP address manually. After assigning the IP address to the switch, then access the switch remotely.

Installing XFP transceivers
CAUTION: To prevent damage to the fiber optic cable or the XFP transceiver, do not install or remove fiber-optic XFP transceivers with cables attached. Disconnect all cables from the XFP transceiver before removing or installing an XFP transceiver. CAUTION: Removing and installing an XFP transceiver can shorten the useful life. Do not remove and insert XFP transceivers more often than is necessary. CAUTION: HP recommends attaching an ESDpreventative wrist strap to your wrist and to a bare metal surface on the chassis to prevent electrostatic discharge. CAUTION: Do not remove the dust plugs from the fiber-optic XFP transceiver or the rubber caps from the fiber-optic cable until you are ready to connect the cable. The plugs and caps protect the XFP transceiver ports and cables from contamination and ambient light.

To access the switch locally:
Connect the switch DB-9 serial connector, using a nullmodem serial cable to a local client device (such as a laptop computer) with VT100 terminal emulation software. Open a VT100 terminal emulation session with these settings: 9600 baud rate, eight data bits, no parity, one stop bit, and no flow control.
Logging on and configuring the switch

To log on to the switch:

Access the switch ("Accessing the switch" on page 1). After connecting to the switch console, the login prompt appears.
Enter admin as the default administrator password. The Main Menu appears and displays all administrator privileges:
