very fast shipping and the ibm think pad lenovo is a great product. so far it works fine and i may concider buying another one. I have been using an old T60 and it was running gr8 on Windows 7. So I ordered one more again. It is far more better than so-called netbooks. this is a great machine for the price. i was able to load software that came with my desktop a few years ago so i was up and running for around $350.

K K K K K
Compaq Proliant 6000 Four Pentium Pro 200MHz processors Two Compaq Ultra Wide SCSI controllers (embedded) Netflex-3 network adapter Four 4GB SCSI drives

Software Requirements

WINFRAME Version 1.6 Compaq Smart Start CD-ROM Version 3.30 or higher with Program Reference disk

Installation Overview

Run Smart Start to prepare the system for installation Install the WINFRAME server software with Compaq-specific HAL and network drivers

Smart Start Installation

This section describes how to configure the Compaq Proliant 6000 Server with the correct hardware settings for installing WINFRAME. This includes adapter card recognition and configuration, and MPS hardware settings. This procedure also creates several diskettes containing device drivers used during WINFRAME installation. 1. Boot the server using the Compaq Smart Start CD-ROM. 2. Select the US versions for all hardware settings. 3. Select Manual installation. 4. Place the Compaq Program License diskette into drive A or other appropriate drive. 5. Select WINFRAME as the operating system to be installed from the menu. 6. Select WINFRAME 1.6 (Windows NT Version 3.51). 7. You can review and modify hardware settings or install an ISA board. Continue with Smart Start installation when finished. 8. The system will reboot and partition the system. 9. Select whether or not to complete registration of the hardware. 10. Select to create software support diskettes. 11. Select Create Software Diskettes From CD Only. 12. Select to create the following diskettes within the COMPAQ folder: Compaq Support Software for Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 and 4.0, Version 1.21A Note At the time this application note was written, SSD version 1.21A was used. Please contact Compaq to receive their latest SSD drivers or download them from Compaqs Web site at http://www.compaq.com. 13. Obtain four formatted floppy disks and label them with the appropriate disk names. Follow the on-screen instructions for creating the floppy disks. 14. Select Next until the Compaq installation program requests that you remove the Smart Start CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive. 15. Remove the Smart Start CD-ROM and place the WINFRAME CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. Insert the WINFRAME Setup floppy disk in Drive A. 16. The system reboots and starts installing WINFRAME.

WINFRAME Installation

This section describes how to install the HAL provided by Compaq, the SCSI controller driver, and the Compaq network adapter during WINFRAME installation. 1. WINFRAME Setup Disk 1 should be in the diskette drive and the WINFRAME CD-ROM should be in the CD drive from Step 16 above. 2. When prompted, insert Setup Disk 2 and press ENTER. Select Custom Setup when prompted for the installation type. 3. Press ENTER for disk detection and insert Setup Disk 3 when prompted. 4. Press S to specify additional drivers. 5. Select Other and place the Compaq SSD disk 1 into the floppy drive. 6. Select Compaq 32-Bit SCSI-2 Controllers for Windows NT. 3.51 from the list. 7. After the device driver is installed, press ENTER to continue with the WINFRAME installation. You will be prompted to place Setup disk 3 back into the floppy drive. 8. The next step is to install the HAL provided by Compaq. The HAL can be selected when the WINFRAME installation has determined the hardware and software components of the system. There are five choices that represent Computer, Display, Keyboard, Keyboard layout, and Pointing device. Using UP ARROW, highlight the section under computers that says MPS Multiprocessor PC and press ENTER. 9. Select Other to install the HAL driver. 10. Place Compaq SSD Disk 1 into the diskette drive and press ENTER. 11. Select Compaq MPS Multiprocessor for Windows NT 3.51 from the list. 12. Press ENTER and continue with the installation as described in the WINFRAME Installation Guide. Important The Smart Start installation utility creates a 4GB partition on drive C. It is not recommended that you install WINFRAME on a FAT partition greater than 2GB. Use the NTFS file system for partitions greater than 2GB. If you are using the FAT file system, press D to delete the 4GB partition on drive C. Create a new partition equal to or less than 2GB for installing WINFRAME because the FAT file system does not support a partition larger than 2GB. 13. The network adapter in the Compaq 6000 Server is not detected by WINFRAME Setup. When the Detecting Network Adapter dialog box appears, select Do Not Detect and click Continue. From the pull-down menu, select <Other> Requires Disk From Manufacturer.

14. Place the Compaq SSD disk 1 into the floppy drive and type a:\net\netflx3. 15. Select the Netflex-3 driver. 16. Continue with the installation as described in the WINFRAME Installation Guide.

Remarks

Compaq recommends using the Compaq multiprocessor HAL with WINFRAME because it is designed to take advantage of specific features in the Compaq hardware. The default HAL that ships with WINFRAME works with Compaq Proliant servers but it is not as efficient as the Compaq HAL. The Compaq Proliant 6000 has a dual PCI bus architecture. The first PCI bus uses slots 1 through 5, the second PCI bus uses slots 6 through 10. This allows the Compaq Proliant servers to make more efficient use of PCI peripherals. Compaq recommends that PCI adapters be staggered across the two PCI buses. For example, if the system contains four PCI cards, position the first two cards in slots 1 and 2 and the second two cards in slots 6 and 7. This provides maximum bus throughput. Using EISA cards in the Compaq Proliant 6000 is not recommended. The EISA bus is an extension to the first PCI bus. Data from EISA peripherals must pass from the EISA bus to the PCI bus and then to the system bus, which reduces bus throughput. Compaq recommends the use of PCI peripherals only in the Proliant 6000 Server.
