The Office of Management and Budget has mandated that every federal agency must be able to run IPv6 by June 30, 2008. This initiative is complementary to the Department of Defenses 2008 target. In fact, the DoD has already set up a program to define IPv6-capable devices and to certify products as IPv6 capable. Other federal agencies are being encouraged to use products that are certified by this program. The DoDs definition of IPv6 capable includes the robust security provided by IPseca protocol that supports the secure exchange of packets at the IP layer.
