Environment-friendly RoHS Compliance Products and Approach
Material Usage
Hewlett-Packard is committed to compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations, including the European Union Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive. HP's goal is to exceed compliance obligations by meeting the requirements of the RoHS Directive on a worldwide basis. From July 1, 2006, RoHS substances will be virtually eliminated (virtually = to levels below legal limits) for all HP electronic products subject to the RoHS Directive, except where it is widely recognized that there is no technically feasible alternative (as indicated by an exemption under the EU RoHS Directive). This product does not contain any of the following substances in excess of regulatory limits (refer to the HP General Specification for the

Ozone Depleting Substances Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBBs) Polybrominated Biphenyl Ethers (PBBEs) Polybrominated Biphenyl Oxides (PBBOs) Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) Polychlorinated Terphenyls (PCT) Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) except for wires and cables, and certain retail packaging has been voluntarily removed from most applications. Radioactive Substances Tributyl Tin (TBT), Triphenyl Tin (TPT), Tributyl Tin Oxide (TBTO) HP follows these guidelines to decrease the environmental impact of product packaging:
Packaging
Eliminate the use of heavy metals such as lead, chromium, mercury and cadmium in packaging materials. Eliminate the use of ozone-depleting substances (ODS) in packaging materials. Design packaging materials for ease of disassembly. Maximize the use of post-consumer recycled content materials in packaging materials. Use readily recyclable packaging materials such as paper and corrugated materials. Reduce size and weight of packages to improve transportation fuel efficiency. Plastic packaging materials are marked according to ISO 11469 and DIN 6120 standards. End-of-life Management Hewlett-Packard offers end-of-life HP product return and recycling programs in many geographic areas. To recycle your product, please go to: and Recycling http://www.hp.com/recycle or contact your nearest HP sales office. Products returned to HP will be recycled, recovered or disposed of in a responsible manner. The EU WEEE directive (2002/95/EC) requires manufacturers to provide treatment information for each product type for use by treatment facilities. Neoware Thin Client Introduction Whitepaper
January 18, 2008
Abstract As of December 1, 2007, the Hewlett Packard acquisition of Neoware Inc. enters a new phase. Neoware will begin operating as a unit of HP and the Neoware thin client products will be marketed as HP Neoware Thin Clients. This document is intended as a general introduction to the Neoware Thin Client products for HP Support personnel. The white paper provides product familiarity and positioning information rather than an in-depth technical examination of the individual thin clients. After reading this white paper, you should be able to: Describe the chassis characteristics of the different hardware models, including the c50, e90, e140, e370, e901, and the m100. Use the model and part number decoding tables to identify the customization features for individual model configurations. Enumerate the embedded operating systems supported on the different models. Provide a high-level description of the main Neoware software applications. This white paper is introductory only. Additional training will be provided following December 1, 2007. That training will provide further detail about the technical aspects of the Neoware models as well as the plans and procedures for managing support for the Neoware hardware and software. Note: Prior to the HP acquisition, Neoware acquired various business operations. The business entities include Maxspeed, a thin client manufacturer, and Pericoms TeemTalk terminal emulation business. These businesses are now part of HP. Initially, Maxspeed and TeemTalk calls will be handled by transferring the customer to the Neoware Support personnel.

3. Support Procedures and Model Identification
For the first few months, following the December 1, 2007 transition, HP Support will begin receiving support calls from existing Neoware customers. Initially, HP Support will not be responsible for providing support for Neoware customer technical issues but will need to perform the initial product identification and then warm transfer the support call to Neoware Technical Support for problem resolution. Neoware thin clients produced prior to December 1, 2007 are identified by Part Numbers or Bcom (the ODM manufacturer) numbers. Following December 1st, new products will ship with the new HP product numbering scheme. This section describes both the pre- and post-December 1 methods for product identification. There are two primary methods for identifying the pre-December 1st Neoware products, the Bcom number and the part number. (Bcom is an abbreviation for the company that manufacturers the clients for Neoware). o The Bcom model numbers are in aa### format. The Bcom number is the easiest method and it is the typical approach used by Neoware Technical Support. o The Part Number is in aa-aa-aa-aaa format. The final triplet aaa is not included unless there are specific hardware options or differences. The Part Number method is more involved but it provides greater detail about the specific model. This approach is typically used by Neoware Hardware Service because it yields information about the specific OS image, peripherals, and attached devices.
Example: Pre December 1st stickers will look something like the graphic on the right.
e140 V4 example
Important: Refer to the Neoware work instructions that were provided to each Call Center in January 2008. The instructions guide you through the recommended steps for identifying the Neoware model, verifying warranty entitlement, and the call transfer procedures to connect the customer with Neoware support.

HP Confidential Using the Bcom number to identify Neoware products The Bcom number is the easiest approach and it is also the most reliable because the Bcom number will always appear on the certification label of the product and the certification label is a required product marking. HP Confidential Using the Part Number to identify Neoware (pre-December 1st) products) Pre December 1st Part Number stickers will have the aa-aa-aa-aaaa format. The final aaaa code is not included unless there are specific hardware options or differences. In this example, the Bcom code CA on its own indicates an e140 V4 thin client. The Part Number provides greater detail. As highlighted in the decoding tree below, the DD indicates a P690 product line (board type), A3 indicates that it has a custom version of Windows XPe, and KE indicates that it has 512MB flash and 512MB RAM.
Legacy Neoware Part Number Decoding tree
Note: If you encounter Neoware products with part numbers that do not conform to this decoding tree they could be out of warranty, older products. Transfer the customer to Neoware support. Additional examples BL-03-KD corresponds to an E100 with a P640 motherboard running a standard Windows XP image, 512MB of Flash memory and 256MB of RAM. Customized units or "specials" will have letters A-Z in the OS designation (for example, BL-A3-KD). DC-03-KE corresponds to an E90 unit with the newer V4 hardware running XPe. The KE indicates the unit has 512 MB of flash and 512 MB of RAM

HP Confidential Serial Number Decoding The scheme for serial numbers is (Year)(Month)(last 6 digits of the MAC (media access controller address for the NIC). For example, 604578F3F was built during April 2006 and the last six digits of the MAC are 57-8F-3F. Neoware normally looks up warranty entitlement in their SNAP database, however, the technicians can also estimate this by determining the manufacture date and adding 3 months channel/distribution time.
Note: The serial number lookup is the best approach and it returns the most information about the specific unit. Additional information is available at the following URLs: You can verify warranty entitlement for a specific system at:
https://es-int-dh.austin.hp.com/webclient/WebClient/Main.do
Quickspecs on the individual Neoware products are available at:
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/division/division.html#10447
The main support URL for Neoware customers is http://forms.neoware.com. Here customers can create accounts, browse the Knowledge Base, create support cases, initiate and track RMA's as well as download software, snap-ins, security updates, images, user manuals, release notes and quick start guides.

HP Confidential Post December Decoding for HP and HP Neoware Thin Clients
All of the HP Neoware models produced for shipment following December 1st will use a new HP standard for product identification. The template for model identification is described in the table below. Decoding the unit label The lettering along the top of the table Promo t5725 LNX qualifier 1GHz nnnF/xxxR ##### is a template of the description format on the label of each unit that will be used on the thin clients after December 1st. All the descriptions will end with a TC suffix for Thin Client and a code to indicate the geographic region such as US, EURO, ALL, or blank if the unit is a base unit with no options.
Examples:
Description on the unit label c50 XPEA 400MHz 1GBF/512R 00 TC US HP Neoware model description a c50 unit with a custom XPe image (XPEA), a 400MHz processor, 1GB flash, 512MB RAM, no power cord or power supply, a thin client for the US region an e140 unit with a standard Windows CE image, a 1GHz processor, 1GB flash and 256MB RAM, no power cord, power supply, or keyboard, suitable for all regions a base e140 unit with a custom XPe image (XPEA), a 1GHz processor, 1GB flash and 512MB RAM, a US powercord/power supply/keyboard, and a mouse
e140 CE 1GHz 128F/256R 00 TC ALL
Promo e140 XPEA 1GHz 1GBF/512R AA0 TC
Note: The term customized image often indicates a relatively minor modification. For example, XPEA in the first example is custom because it includes the System Management Server (SMS) agent components. Some custom images have more extensive modifications, but the changes are often as simple as including multiple remote connection components (ICA + RDP + TeemTalk, for example). Additional details on the code and the range of label descriptions will be provided following the December 1st transition.

5. Operating Systems
Server OS compatibility The HP Neoware thin client operating systems include support (agent and/or driver components) for the following server environments.
Server operating system compatibility:
Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 including the Desktop Broker feature Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 with ICA 10.0 Citrix Metaframe Presentation Server 3.0 Citrix Metaframe XP Presentation Server Citrix Metaframe 1.x Windows 2000/2003 Server Terminal Services Windows 2000 Advance Server Terminal Services Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server Edition VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure using RDP Linux Terminal Server Project (LTSP) * Most mainframes and midrange servers **
* Requires bios change to PXE boot ** Requires TeemTalk (standard on most HP Neoware thin clients)
Client operating systems Neoware thin clients support Windows XPe, Windows CE, and a Neoware implementation of Linux called Neolinux. Unlike HP, Neoware emphasizes that their standard thin clients can support any of their three embedded operating systems. In other words, a customer who buys an e90 with a Neolinux image can decide later on that they want to use Windows XPe on the client. The client might require some hardware upgrades for flash and RAM but Neoware supports the new image on the client. The Windows operating systems (CE and XPe) on the Neoware thin clients are naturally similar to the Windows CE and Windows XPe images on the HP thin clients. In both cases, the images are built by selecting from a well defined library of Microsoft components so a common look-and-feel is expected. In both cases, typically when Neoware or HP has added enhancements, there are functional/procedural differences. For example: o o o When there are features that are not common to Microsofts standard applets, such as Autologon, HP has the HP Logon Manager while Neoware uses a different applet to accomplish essentially the same function. HP uses the Microsoft Enhanced Write Filter on XPe while Neoware uses their own write filter implementation. Both the Neoware and HP implementations of Windows CE use a Connection Manager/Connection Administrator, but the two tools are dramatically different. The HP tool allows for multiple users with different rights and subsets of the defined connections, the Neoware version seems to assume one user with access to all defined connections.
Neolinux seems more like the previous (pre-HP ThinConnect) version of HPs custom, small footprint Linux than the Debian Linux image used on the t57x5 thin clients. The Neolinux interface is more like a traditional OS than the HP ThinConnect appliance interface, but it is less full featured than the Debian Linux implementation. Both the HP and Neoware Linux versions use some common connection software (rdesktop for RDP and the Citrix ICA component for Linux) but the interface that wraps around that software is different.
Note: The plans for the future OS products on the HP and HP Neoware thin clients are under development. There will be additional training available after the consolidated OS roadmap is established.

6. Neoware Applications
Neoware developed a suite of applications designed to add to the standard thin client capability and to provide a single source for software to control and manage small to moderate thin client deployments. Decisions are still being made on the best long term plan for the Neoware and existing HP software tools. The objective is to combine the strengths of the various components to create a best in breed combination for the customer. The following list summarizes some key Neoware applications and tools. HP will announce specific plans for these components over the next few months. HP Neoware Image Manager HP Neoware Image Manager helps extend the life of both thin clients and PCs, while improving device and image management. By leveraging Neoware Image Manager's groundbreaking architecture, enterprises large and small can realize the benefits of server-based computing by achieving greater security, reliability, affordability and manageability while extending the life of the desktop. With HP Neoware Image Manager, enterprises smoothly implement centralized on-demand computing and management for heterogeneous desktops. You centrally manage images and define each user's profile in just a few mouse clicks. Quickly configure and deploy new desktops with plug-and-play replacement. You may decide to define several differently tasked images for update, training, call-center, accounting, shipping, diagnostic, point-of-sale, CRM, administrator hard disk drive images, etc. HP Neoware ezRemote Manager HP Neoware ezRemote Manager is a tool thats easy to use and practical for managing HP Neoware thin clients. With a simple installation, point and click commands, no license fees, youre off and running in minutes. Thin client visibility can be centralized with console support for device discovery and asset management. Administrative control expands with support for remote configuration, remote shadowing, connection cloning, image cloning, global image updates, scheduled updates, and snap-ins for modular image changes. HP Neoware Device Manager HP Neoware Device Manager is the most robust, enterprise-class management tool for thin clients. It provides a software dashboard that allows a single professional to track, configure, upgrade, clone and manage thousands of devices easily. Designed for ease of use, HP Neoware Device Manager enables simple and rapid installation, with automatic client registration. It has a user-friendly, Windows Explorer-style graphical user interface, and communication protocols are XML-based. Dynamic configurations can be automatically "pushed" to device upon discovery. A client-side agent delivers fast and reliable communication to and from the server or gateway. Making use of multiple software repositories, HP Neoware Device Manager provides administrative control across complex subnets and NAT-enabled environments. With a unique auto-registration process comes unmatched desktop visibility. A database back-end records and manages asset information. HP Neoware TeemTalk Terminal Emulator Neoware bought the Pericom TeemTalk software emulation product from the Pericom Group. Neoware acquired the full worldwide rights to the software product and the TeemTalk development team from Pericom was absorbed into Neoware. TeemTalk host access software is one of the most widely used terminal emulators in the thin client market. It provides the ability to connect and communicate with applications on mainframes and midrange systems including servers running proprietary OS's, UNIX and Linux systems. TeemTalk can emulate more than 30 different green screen terminals, including IBM 3270, 5250, DEC VT, HP, Wyse and more. And it's built into more than 85% of the millions of thin clients that have been shipped worldwide. The software will be sold as HP Neoware TeemTalk. The specific maintenance and support procedures for what is now a fully owned HP software product are still being defined.
