HP OpenView Operations for UNIX and Windows
The Application Group pane at the top/right shows the Application Bank for SAM. From here you can start/stop SAM services and backup/restore the SAM DB.
The bottom pane is the event browser. With a right-click on a message you can launch SAM in the context of the event for drill-down.

Today, we want to let you know about some changes were making in the direction of HP OpenView Storage Operations Manager (SOM) and HP OpenView Storage Area Manager (SAM) and how these changes may impact you, including investment protection and product options. Simplified EVA Device Management Software Bundling As of June 16th, 2005, we will: No longer bundle HP OpenView Storage Node manager version 3.2 and HP Command View EVA version 3.3 software. License HP Command View EVA software (concurrent with the release of HP Command View EVA V4.0) Continue to offer HP OpenView SOM purchase and migration licenses on HPs corporate price list. 30 days after May 16, 2005, the HP OpenView SOM V1.2 software media CD kit will no longer be available for purchase. If you have current HP OpenView Storage SOM licenses, also called a LTU (license to use), you may continue to order additional LTU to accommodate EVA capacity growth as needed. If you are participating in the free HP OpenView SOM migration program1, you can continue to order LTU to accommodate capacity growth.
Simplified Device Management via HP Command View EVA 4.0 With HP Command View EVA 4.0, you can now manage any EVA3000 or EVA5000 or EVA4000, EVA6000 and EVA8000 with a single instance of HP Command View EVA version 4.0 software running on a Windows server. Additional feature support for HP Command View EVA includes: New HP Command View EVA performance monitoring software which has been added to the HP Command View EVA software suite. This is a free tool that allows the user to view all of the traffic to each host port and to each virtual disk (Vdisk), regardless of the nature or number of servers accessing these ports and virtual disks. A variety of EVA performance metrics may be monitored enabling you to identify performance bottlenecks quickly so application performance is optimized. New replication enhancements, including Instant Restore and 3 phase Snapclone are available. Comparison of HP Storage Essentials to HP OpenView SAM Both HP Storage Essentials and HP OpenView Storage Area Manager provide enterprise class Storage Resource Management functions. However, HP Storage Essentials has key new features including wizardbased host to spindle storage provisioning, flexible, embedded reporting, and more detailed asset tracking. Device and host OS support matrices vary between the two products. Please note, if you choose option 2 or 3 you must also order a professional services engagement, either directly with HP or through an authorized HP Services delivery partner since the HP Storage Essentials product is not customer installable. 1. You can stay with HP OpenView Storage Node Manager -- there is no forced migration. 2. You can take advantage of a Storage Essentials Enterprise Edition limited time offer. This program will offer HP OpenView SOM customers the option to purchase HP Storage Essentials Enterprise Edition software at a significantly reduced price. HP Storage Essentials Enterprise Edition opens up a world of opportunities to increase storage efficiency, improve system utilization and enhance quality of service (QoS). 3. You can migrate from HP OpenView Storage Node Manager to HP Storage Essentials Standard Edition software. HP Storage Essentials Standard Edition will have a similar feature set to HP OpenView Storage Node Manager.
