Full-height device bay numbering
Each adjacent pair of bays (bays 1 and 2, bays 3 and 4, bays 5 and 6, and so on) can be used for the PCI Expansion Blade and its associated server blade.

Remove the blank.

Associated with a half-height server blade in the adjacent bay.
Installation guidelines for associating with a full-height server blade
When installing the PCI Expansion Blade with a full-height server blade, observe the following additional guidelines: Remove the device bay shelf. Install an HP PCIe Mezzanine Pass-Thru Card in the mezzanine connector 3 in the full-height server blade. See the documentation that ships with the mezzanine card and the server blade documentation. Install the coupler plate on the PCI Expansion Blade. Install the PCI Expansion Blade in bays 9 through 16 for the c7000 Enclosure, or bays 7 or 8 (using the mini divider that came with the enclosure) for the c3000 Enclosure. 2. Remove the enclosure connector cover. o Associated with a full-height server blade in the adjacent bay.

c3000 Enclosure:

CAUTION: For c3000 Enclosures, only device bays 7 and 8 are mechanically supported for installation of the PCI Expansion Blade. Installing the PCI Expansion Blade in another bay could result in damage to the PCI Expansion Blade.
If the PCI Expansion Blade is installed in an odd-numbered bay, then install the associated server blade in the adjacent even-numbered bay to the right of the PCI Expansion Blade (c7000 Enclosures) or above the PCI Expansion Blade (c3000 Enclosures).
NOTE: When a coupler plates is installed on the PCI Expansion Blade, a server blade can be installed above the PCI Expansion Blade.
Identify the associated server blade to be installed with the PCI Expansion Blade. o o To install the PCI Expansion Blade with a half-height server blade, proceed with step 4. To install the PCI Expansion Blade with a full-height server blade, install the coupler plate.

Installation guidelines

Observe the following guidelines when installing the PCI Expansion Blade: One PCI Expansion Blade is associated with one partner server blade in an adjacent bay.
Power down the partner server blade before installing the PCI Expansion Blade. The Onboard Administrator configures the enclosure and the PCI Expansion Blade. To function with the PCI Expansion Blade, Onboard Administrator version 2.00 or later is required.
If the PCI Expansion Blade is installed in an even-numbered bay, then install the associated server blade in the adjacent odd-numbered bay to the left of the PCI Expansion Blade (c7000 Enclosures) or below the PCI Expansion Blade (c3000 Enclosures). For c3000 Enclosures, if the PCI Expansion Blade is installed in bay 7, install the full-height server blade in bay 4. If the PCI Expansion Blade is installed in bay 8, install the fullheight server blade in bay 3. When installing the PCI Expansion Blade with a full-height server blade, a half-height server blade can be installed in the empty bay above the PCI Expansion Blade (c7000 Enclosures) or to the left of the PCI Expansion Blade (c3000 Enclosures). This half-height server blade cannot be associated with the PCI Expansion Blade.
Install a server blade. See the documentation that ships with the server blade. Check the Onboard Administrator and Insight Display to verify that the PCI Expansion Blade is properly associated with the adjacent server blade. A green Expansion Blade Status LED also indicates proper installation.
The installation is complete.
Installation guidelines for associating with a half-height server blade
When installing the PCI Expansion Blade with a half-height server blade, observe the following additional guidelines: Install the PCI Expansion Blade in any device bay. If the PCI Expansion Blade is installed in an odd-numbered bay, install the associated server blade in the higher evennumbered bay adjacent to the odd-numbered bay. If the PCI Expansion Blade is installed in an even-numbered bay, install the associated server blade in the lower oddnumbered bay adjacent to the even-numbered bay.
Installing a PCI Expansion Blade
CAUTION: To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, do not operate the server blade or the enclosure unless all hard drive and device bays are populated with either a component or a blank.
