Not a good keyboard for office use. Does not have a 10 number keypad. It also does not have Legs on the back to make the keyboard have an angle. Bought keyboard from JR, it was broken, sent it back for a new one. [...] Ergonomic Poorly Designed","Slow Connection

I find the problem with not being able to use some of the shortkeys a significant shortfall of this keyboard/mouse set. Overall, this is a very comfortable, high quality wirless desktop set. In a substantial improvement over previous Microsoft wireless desktop sets.

Presario 7000 Series

Information in this Section supercedes the current edition of the My Presario Getting Started and Beyond guide
Your new Compaq Presario 7000 Series is an ultra-performance platform especially designed for the extreme power user. It utilizes the latest in technology, including the Intel Pentium IV processor with speeds starting at 1.4 GHz and a 400 MHz system data bus.

PC800 RDRAM Memory

Your Compaq Presario 7000 Series dual-channel RDRAM architecture supports PC800 RDRAM system memory configurations to 1GB. This Presario model is equipped with four memory slots. Memory slots 1 and 2 are populated with a perfectly-matched pair of RIMM modules. Memory slots 3 and 4 are populated with blank memory modules that can be replaced with an additional pair of matched-memory modules at a later date.
Before adding or replacing memory modules, it is important to understand the following:
Caution: Do not leave any of the slots vacant. All slots must be populated to maintain a closed circuit, or your computer will not start.
Memory modules must be purchased in perfectly-matched pairs. For instance, you may have two 64-MB memory modules or two 128-MB memory modules. If memory modules are used in slots 3 and 4 they must be a perfectly-matched pair, but they do not need to match the modules in 1 and 2. To ensure that you are buying perfectly-matched pairs, check the information displayed on the package. The package should show the amount of memory and the number of devices in this manner:
Caution: Before working with the components inside the computer, ground yourself and the equipment to prevent static electricity from damaging the parts. Discharge any static buildup by touching the metal part of the computer chassis before touching any internal parts or before removing new memory modules from the anti-static protective sleeve.

To replace memory:

1. Complete the Accessing the Internal Computer Components procedure in the Computer Upgrades chapter of the My Presario Getting Started and Beyond guide that came with your computer. Pull outward on the release latches found at each end of 1 and 2. Remove the two original memory modules by lifting each straight up.
Caution: The memory module fits into the slot only one way. Make sure the notches are aligned. For ease of handling, insert the first module into slot 2, the interior slot.
Align the replacement memory module with the vacated memory slot. Insert the memory module straight in, pressing down at each end with equal pressure. Push the module carefully and firmly into the slot, ensuring that the latches on both ends snap into place. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for slot 1. Close the computer housing. Restart your computer.

6. 7. 8.

Note: If you restart your computer and it does not work, consult the Computer Upgrades chapter in your My Presario Getting Started and Beyond guide.

To add memory:

1. Complete the Accessing the Internal Computer Components procedure in the My Presario Getting Started and Beyond guide.

Pull outward on the release latches found at each end of the 3 and 4 memory slots. Remove the two blank memory modules by lifting each straight up.
Caution: The memory module fits into the slot only one way. Make sure the devices are aligned. For ease of handling insert the first module into slot 3, the interior slot.
Align the memory module with the vacated memory slot. Insert the memory module straight in, pressing down at each end with equal pressure. Push the module carefully and firmly into the slot, ensuring that the latches on both ends snap into place. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for slot 4. Close the computer housing. Restart your computer.
Caution: Do not leave any of the slots vacant. All slots must be populated to maintain a closed circuit, or your computer will not start. Keep the blank memory modules you removed in a safe place in case you need them in the future. Note: If you restart your computer and it does not work, consult the Computer Upgrades chapter in your My Presario Getting Started and Beyond guide.

Removal and replacement procedures
Preliminary replacement requirements

Tools required

You will need the following tools to complete the removal and replacement procedures: Flat-bladed screwdriver Magnetic screwdriver Phillips P0 and P1 screwdrivers

Service considerations

The following sections include some of the considerations that you must keep in mind during disassembly and assembly procedures. NOTE: As you remove each subassembly from the computer, place the subassembly (and all accompanying screws) away from the work area to prevent damage.

Plastic parts

Using excessive force during disassembly and reassembly can damage plastic parts. Use care when handling the plastic parts. Apply pressure only at the points designated in the maintenance instructions.
Chapter 4 Removal and replacement procedures

Cables and connectors

CAUTION: When servicing the computer, be sure that cables are placed in their proper locations during the reassembly process. Improper cable placement can damage the computer. Cables must be handled with extreme care to avoid damage. Apply only the tension required to unseat or seat the cables during removal and insertion. Handle cables by the connector whenever possible. In all cases, avoid bending, twisting, or tearing cables. Be sure that cables are routed in such a way that they cannot be caught or snagged by parts being removed or replaced. Handle flex cables with extreme care; these cables tear easily.

Drive handling

CAUTION: Drives are fragile components that must be handled with care. To prevent damage to the computer, damage to a drive, or loss of information, observe these precautions: Before removing or inserting a hard drive, shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. Before handling a drive, be sure that you are discharged of static electricity. While handling a drive, avoid touching the connector. Before removing a diskette drive or optical drive, be sure that a diskette or disc is not in the drive and be sure that the optical drive tray is closed. Handle drives on surfaces covered with at least one inch of shock-proof foam. Avoid dropping drives from any height onto any surface. After removing a hard drive, an optical drive, or a diskette drive, place it in a static-proof bag. Avoid exposing a hard drive to products that have magnetic fields, such as monitors or speakers. Avoid exposing a drive to temperature extremes or liquids. If a drive must be mailed, place the drive in a bubble pack mailer or other suitable form of protective packaging and label the package FRAGILE.

Workstation guidelines Follow these grounding workstation guidelines: Cover the workstation with approved static-shielding material. Use a wrist strap connected to a properly grounded work surface and use properly grounded tools and equipment. Use conductive field service tools, such as cutters, screwdrivers, and vacuums. When fixtures must directly contact dissipative surfaces, use fixtures made only of static-safe materials. Keep the work area free of nonconductive materials, such as ordinary plastic assembly aids and Styrofoam. Handle ESD-sensitive components, parts, and assemblies by the case or PCM laminate. Handle these items only at static-free workstations. Avoid contact with pins, leads, or circuitry. Turn off power and input signals before inserting or removing connectors or test equipment.
Equipment guidelines Grounding equipment must include either a wrist strap or a foot strap at a grounded workstation. When seated, wear a wrist strap connected to a grounded system. Wrist straps are flexible straps with a minimum of one megohm 10% resistance in the ground cords. To provide proper ground, wear a strap snugly against the skin at all times. On grounded mats with banana-plug connectors, use alligator clips to connect a wrist strap. When standing, use foot straps and a grounded floor mat. Foot straps (heel, toe, or boot straps) can be used at standing workstations and are compatible with most types of shoes or boots. On conductive floors or dissipative floor mats, use foot straps on both feet with a minimum of one megohm resistance between the operator and ground. To be effective, the conductive strips must be worn in contact with the skin.
The following grounding equipment is recommended to prevent electrostatic damage: Antistatic tape Antistatic smocks, aprons, and sleeve protectors Conductive bins and other assembly or soldering aids Nonconductive foam Conductive tabletop workstations with ground cords of one megohm resistance Static-dissipative tables or floor mats with hard ties to the ground Field service kits Static awareness labels Material-handling packages Nonconductive plastic bags, tubes, or boxes Metal tote boxes Electrostatic voltage levels and protective materials
