Features and Benefits
Benefits
Accelerated application recovery with minimal transaction loss Disaster tolerant solutions to ensure business continuance and company survival Creation of disaster tolerant copies of your "critical business data"
Product Features
EVA array family support The entire EVA array family is support on either end of the DT configuration. Whether repurposing legacy units or simply adding newer generation units to an existing CLX EVA configuration, both sites are covered. See "Software Support" section for configuration requirements. Protection against transaction data loss Because the application cluster is extended over two sites and the storage is replicated at the second site using synchronous replication methodology, data exists ubiquitously with virtually no difference in the data storage from site A to site B. No-single-point-of-failure solution to increase the availability of company and customer data Determined by the distance and latency requirements for the Continuous Access EVA and cluster server.
Metropolitan distance support Fully Automatic Failover and Failback No server reboot
Automated failover and failback reduces the complexity involved in a disaster recovery situation. It is protection against the risk of downtime, whether planned or unplanned. Disks on the Server on both the primary and secondary sites are recognized during the initial system boot in a CLX EVA environment; therefore LUN presentation and LUN mapping changes are not necessary during failover or failback - for a truly hand-free disaster tolerant solution.
Disaster Tolerance (DT) Cluster Extension is the key that unlocks the critical difference between disaster recovery (DR) and disaster vs. Disaster Recovery (DR) tolerance (DT). Most DR products pledge that operations will resume following downtime (typically unexpected). CLX EVA delivers DT - control over the possibility of downtime itself. This control No Single Point of failure Supreme redundancy: identical configuration of established SAN infrastructure redundancies are implemented on site B. Synchronous mode Support Continuous Access EVA offers synchronous data transfer mode between arrays and host. Synchronous data transfers offer the highest levels of data protection. With synchronous operations, both the source and destination copies are identical and concurrent at all times. Synchronous mirroring ensures that data copies are identical, to prevent critical data loss in the event of a failure or disaster. In this mode, data is written simultaneously to the mirrored cache of the local storage system and the remote storage system, in real time, before the application I/O is completed, thus ensuring the highest possible data consistency. Synchronous replication is appropriate when exact consistency is critical to the business application.
MSCS Majority Node Set CLX EVA Windows uses the Microsoft Majority Node Set (MNS) and Microsoft File Share Witness (FSW) quorum feature that is available in Windows from MS Windows2003. These quorum models provide Integration protection against split-brain situations without the single point of failure of a traditional Quorum disk. Split Brain syndrome occurs when the servers at one site of the stretched cluster lose all connection with the servers at the other site and the servers at each site form independent clusters. The serious consequence of the split-brain is corruption of business data since data will no longer be consistent.

What's New
BC enhancements for VMFS Business Copy EVA Advanced replication local replication functions supported by the array firmware include the ability to create modify and delete snapshots and clones. Other functionality such as mounting and unmounting of volumes and interaction with production applications can be accomplished by using a scripting language such as the HP Storage System Scripting Utility (SSSU) to create user-defined scripts or via the new CLUI. Users can also manage both local and remote replication tasks through the use of HP Replication Solutions Manager graphical User interface described in the next section. Single path configurations are supported. Snapshots and clones are useful tools to facilitate data restores, minimize downtime for backups, perform application testing, support data mining, and use in decision support tools. Two methods for generation of basic local point-in-time copies through Business Copy EVA include (See Replication Solutions Manager section for information on advanced management): HP Command View EVA can be used to create Snapshots, MirrorClones, Snapclones and Vsnaps through a graphical user interface. This software runs on the Storage Management Appliance or Windows based server in the SAN and can be accessed via a web browser. Refer to the Command View QuickSpecs document at http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/software.html http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/10547_div/10547_div.pdf for more details Dependencies: HP Command View EVA, HP Business Copy EVA and the HP Storage Management Appliance, or a general purpose server HP Storage System Scripting Utility (SSSU) is included with the platform kits and can be used to generate scripts on the host server to create snapshots, Vsnaps, MirrorClones and Snapclones. User defined scripts can be created using this tool to manage replication at the array level. HP Command Scripter performs the same basic functions (create, modify and delete) for the MA/EMA and more information about it can be found at DA - 11616 Worldwide Version 29 September 24, 2010 Page 1
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/10734_div/10734_div.pdf. HP Business Copy EVA supports several types of replicated volumes created by the HSV controller; standard snapshots, Vsnaps and MirrorClones, Snapclones. The VCS controller supports standard snapshots, Vsnaps and Snapclones. All are point-in-time copies of data and are useful tools to minimize downtime for backups, perform application testing, support data mining, and improve throughput. Dependencies: Command View EVA and the Storage Management Appliance or a general purpose server (see OS support table). And optionally, the Storage System Scripting Utility (SSSU) included with platform kits Descriptions: Snapshots: A standard snapshot (full allocated) is a point-in-time virtual copy of the data, created in seconds and usable immediately, providing maximum flexibility for user applications. Disk capacity is reserved to accommodate the original size of the source volume. This process may be completed by allowing HP Business Copy EVA to automatically execute all tasks in the snapshot creation, or by creating a target container (3-Phase) to accelerate the snapshot creation. Please review the HP Business Copy documentation for more information on this feature. Vsnaps: Vsnaps Virtually capacity free snapshots (demand allocated) allow the user to create a point-in-time copy, or demand allocated snapshot, of a specified Virtual Disk (LUN). Vsnap is similar to the standard snapshot (fully allocated) except that it does not reserve the same amount of disk capacity as the production volume being copied. The amount of disk capacity used by the copy volume will grow as data in the production volume changes over time or if the Vsnap is set to read/write, and data is written directly to the Vsnap. The result is that a Vsnap is a true space-efficient copy where capacity is not wasted reserving space. This saves valuable capacity and reduces workload by automatically using space as needed. MirrorClone: MirrorClone provides an alternative to a snapshot by allowing the user to make a full, byte-for-byte, point-in-time copy of a source LUN that can be mounted to a secondary server. MirrorClone will track all changed blocks and can re-sync with the source LUN to create a new point-intime copy, or can be used to instantly restore the source. Snapclones: A Snapclone is a complete clone copy of a specified Virtual Disk (LUN). With traditional arrays, a clone can take hours to build depending on its size. Unlike traditional clones, HP Business Copy EVA Snapclones are available virtually immediately. Within a few seconds of when the Snapclone is taken, the entire clone copy is available for use. The Snapclone normalizes in the background so that no time is wasted waiting for the copy to complete. Enterprise Snapclones can also be taken in any redundancy level (RAID 0, 1, or 5). Snapclones provide the ability to take and use a clone without extensive advance preparation. Long "re-synch" times are also eliminated with Snapclones since a current clone copy can be available for use in minutes, not hours. Snapclones can also be created in different disk groups allowing users to copy the data to lower cost drives such as FATA. This process may be completed by allowing HP Business Copy EVA to automatically execute all tasks in the Snapclone creation, or by creating a target container (3-Phase) to accelerate the Snapclone creation. Please review the HP Business Copy documentation for more information on this feature. Snapclones: Cross Vraid Snapshot and Snapclones EVA allows for increased flexibility and improved capacity utilization by supporting changing the Vraid type with Cross Vraid Snapshot and Snapclone, within the same disk group and Cross Vraid Snapclone across disk groups. Cross Vraid Snapclone also supports changing the Vraid type when Snapcloning from a high performance disk group to a FATA disk group. Restore: Instant Restore With the EVA4000/6000/8000 series arrays, users can restore a source volume using a normalized Snapclone, MirrorClone, MirrorClone Snapshot, Snapshot or any other Vdisk of the same DA - 11616 Worldwide Version 29 September 24, 2010 Page 2

size. This allows for quick recovery of a source should the volume become corrupted. HP Business Copy EVA comes complete with HP Replication Solutions Manager, a graphical user interface and scripting environment, that greatly simplifies storage management by creating, running, and managing storage replication jobs using controller based snapshots and clones. This interface simplifies the complex tasks involved with utilizing controller-based snapshot and clone technology. With HP Replication Solutions Manager users easily can manage both remote* and local replication* across the full EVA product family. By virtually removing the complexity associated with both small and large replication environments, point-in-time copies and remote replication are managed and configured with just a few mouse clicks. To assist the user, Information on the replication environment is presented in a variety of views, including an interactive topology manager that allows each user to select their viewing preference. In addition, HP Replication Solutions manager provides a scripting interface for additional flexibility. HP Replication Solutions Manager is comprised of two parts, the server component that runs on the HP Storage Management Appliance, or a Windows based server in the SAN and the host agents that run on each host in the SAN to offer a more automated local replication process. For example, the host agent software provides the ability to suspend and resume database I/O, launch applications, and dynamically mount Snapshots, Vsnaps, and Snapclones to servers. Business Copy EVA Uses
diskRecover from disk HP Business Copy EVA offers the ability to instantly restore a source storage volume (Vdisk) with a fully normalized Snapclone, Snapshot* or Vdisk of the same size. This advanced function allows an application to be brought back online quickly should a storage volume become damaged, or corrupted. Backup HP Business Copy EVA together with Backup Solutions provide users with a complete, automated, non-disruptive backup solution. With this solution, users can effectively "eliminate the backup window" by making a snapshot or clone copy of the data to be backed up, mounting it to a backup server, and backing it up as a separate process from normal application processing. Application downtime can be reduced from many hours to a few seconds thus giving the user greater application availability. The scheduler* also can be configured using the Round Robin feature to keep a set of up to 7 Snapshots available based on time period, by automatically deleting the oldest and creating a new one. Application testing A copy of production data can be made with a snapshot or clone and then mounted on a computer in a test environment. Since both snapshots and clones can be written to without affecting the actual production data, they are ideal for this application. If data is corrupted as a result of the testing, the copy can be deleted and another created. Data Mining By creating a clone of production data, data mining processes can be run from the copy without impacting the performance of the production volumes. Work Distribution Multiple clones of a single production volume can be made and then be used by a parallel processing application to greatly enhance processing throughput. * Available only through HP Replication Solutions Manager EVA

Standard Features
HP Storage Management Appliance, Management Server, General Purpose or HP NAS Server Operation
Replication Solutions Manager Server software runs on the Storage Management Appliance; a server in the SAN running Microsoft Windows Server or the HP NAS Storage Server. This architecture offloads replication job processing from SAN hosts and centralizes management making administration and upgrades much easier across the SAN.
Suspend and Resume of Applications
HP Business Copy EVA can execute scripts on the hosts to suspend and resume the processing of applications and enable creation of file consistent copies of the data. (Available only through HP Replication Solutions Manager EVA)
HP StorageWorks DButil
HP StorageWorks DButil is a command-line utility to facilitate application-consistent replication of a Microsoft SQL Server database. HP DButil commands place the database in a transactionally consistent state and suspend write operations while HP StorageWorks replication software is used to copy the database. Other HP DButil commands then resume the database and normal write operations. HP StorageWorks DButil now supports Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 operating system. HP StorageWorks DButil can be downloaded at no charge from the following site: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prod TypeId=18964&prodSeriesId=315919&swItem=co-625831&prodNameId=3185419&swEnvOID=54&swLang=13&taskId=135&mode=3 Oracle: The HP StorageWorks scripted Oracle zero downtime backup (ZDB) solution provides the means to backup an Oracle database with minimal database and database server impact. ZDB is made possible by combining the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) enterprise disk array snapshot capabilities with the HP StorageWorks Business Copy EVA software utility. This enables the ability to place the Oracle database tablespaces in backup mode briefly while snapshots of the database data files are created. The snapshots can then be presented to a backup server for copying the data to tape. After the backup, the database copy could be re-used as a point-in-time copy if disk space is not an issue. The backup server offloads precious processing resources from the database server, and the Oracle database remains available during the entire process. ZDB solutions are one of many different data protection solutions offered by HP. ZDB solutions are unique in that they tie many software and hardware products together. Choosing a solution based on HP technology provides supportability and known compatibilities. SAP: HP StorageWorks Rapid Backup for mySAP Business Suite on EVA enhances backup procedures of SAP applications on the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Arrays. An SAP database can be backed up while minimizing lengthy application downtime of an offline backup or the performance degradation caused by being in backup mode, in a typical online backup. This solution provides an online backup in which the time the tables are in backup mode is greatly reduced. If the customer prefers an offline backup, the solution minimizes the time the application needs to be shut down. Exchange: Microsoft Exchange 2003 Remote Replication on EVA maximizes performance in high demand Exchange 2003 replication environments by providing best practices, performance metrics, and proof of concept information for a variety of distances. Use HP StorageWorks Application Recovery Manager to roll-back to the instant before your Exchange or Microsoft SQL database crashed! Software Licensing
This software is furnished under the licensing provisions of HP's Standard Terms and Conditions. For more information about the HP licensing terms and policies, contact your local HP office.
Product Licensing
With the HP Replication Solutions Manager EVA GUI, both remote replication and local replication features* can be managed. For all of these features to be enabled, both HP Continuous Access (remote replication features) and HP Business Copy (local replication features) must be licensed. If any feature is not licensed, the action will fail and be logged in the event pane. Please note that when using the Cascaded Replication feature both a HP Business Copy and an HP Continuous Access license must be installed at the intermediary site where a Snapclone of the data is required. * Some features of HP Business Copy EVA are only available with the use of HP Replication Solutions Manager EVA HP Business Copy for EVA offers a simple method of licensing. See the Ordering Information section for more details. Licensing Guidelines: 1. HP Replication Solutions Manager EVA can be downloaded at no additional charge with the purchase of either HP Business Copy EVA, or HP Continuous Access EVA License-to-use (LTU). 2. HP Business Copy EVA licenses are not transferable to like, or unlike EVA models. When enabling HP Business Copy EVA features on an EVA a new license must be purchased, or in some cases an upgrade license may be purchased if upgrading an existing EVA array's model that already has HP Business Copy enabled. 3. HP Business Copy EVA requires that the HP Command View EVA is in full compliance to license requirements of its software terms. If HP Command View EVA is non-compliant, some features in HP Business Copy may not be fully enabled, or work properly.
