hp OpenView storage area manager hp Surestore nas 8000 device plug-in installation instructions
This Device Plug-In (DPI) enables Storage Area Manager support of the HP Surestore NAS 8000 series. This version of the DPI fixes a known issue in which Storage Area Manager incorrectly identified the solutions supported by this DPI as HP NAS 8300 rather than HP NAS 8000. Running the installation wizard automatically installs the necessary files in the appropriate Storage Area Manager directories.
supported devices
This DPI extends Storage Area Manager support for the following devices:

requirements
This section describes the requirements necessary to successfully install this DPI.
HP OpenView Storage Area Manager 2.2 must be installed on a management server. The NAS devices IP address must be within Storage Area Managers SNMP discovery range and the read and write community names for the applicable discovery range must match the devices setting.
configure Storage Area Manager
This DPI requires configuration changes within Storage Area Manager to ensure that all NAS devices within your storage network and supported by this DPI are discovered by Storage Area Manager. Verify that the IP address(es) of all applicable devices are within Storage Area Managers SNMP discovery range. 1. 2. 3. Open Storage Area Manager if it is not already open. From the Tools menu, select Configure. In the Configuration windows navigation tree, expand the Discovery menu, then select SNMP Discovery Ranges.
If necessary, modify the discovery range to include the IP addresses of all NAS devices in the storage network that are supported by this DPI. Verify that the Read Community and Write Community Names for the applicable discovery range(s) match those of the NAS devices in the storage network that are supported by this DPI. Create a unique discovery range for the device(s) if the devices Read Community and Write Community Names are different than those of other devices within the same SNMP discovery range.
Page 2
install the dpi on the management server
1. 2. 3. 4. Exit Storage Area Manager on the management server and any management clients. Download the DPI executable to any location on the management server. Go to the location where you downloaded the DPI and run the executable (HPNAS8000.exe). The installation wizard starts. Click the Next button. The installation wizard shows you a location that it will create for temporary files. You may change the location or accept the default. When the installation is complete, you may delete this folder. Click the Finish button. The installation wizard shuts down the management server services and moves the files from their temporary location to the appropriate Storage Area Manager directories. After all the files are installed, the installation wizard restarts the management server services.
verify dpi installation
After you successfully complete the installation procedure, any HP NAS 8000 solution in the storage network and supported by this DPI will begin to appear in Storage Area Managers device map and directory tree. Storage Area Manager will automatically detect the applicable NAS solutions during the next discovery cycle.
known issue
This version of the hp Surestore nas 8000 DPI has a limited capability for displaying events. Only events indicating a change in device status are displayed in Storage Area Managers event panel. For example, if one of the supported NAS solutions changes from Normal to Unknown/Unreachable status, a corresponding event appears in the event panel. However, this DPI is not able to query the NAS solution for device-related events such as component failure.

Q:What is Network Attached

Q:What makes a NAS
device cost-effective?
make a NAS device cost-effective. Because a NAS device is a "ready-to-go" solution, purchasing additional hardware or software is not necessary. And since the device is Network Operating System (NOS) independent, the purchase of NOS licenses is not required. Further savings stem from reduced demands on the time of IT staff for installation and ongoing management when compared with other storage alternatives. HP NAS devices can be installed in minutes and can be managed from anywhere on your Intranet using a web browser.

dle multiple operations that are intensive and place high demands on the server's processor. HP NetStorage6000 handles a single function, storing and retrieving files. By having the data move through the NAS device as opposed to a general-purpose file server, potential bottlenecks are avoided.

between NAS and SAN?
(NAS) and Storage Area Networks (SAN) are different but complementary storage technologies that can coexist to optimize a company's network storage infrastructure. Both are highly optimized to provide efficient data storage and file access. There are four general differences:
A: HP NAS technology makes it
possible to add storage to a network quickly and easily. Using an intuitive web-based user interface, storage can be added anytime within minutes. In other words, you can add storage quickly to the network without disrupting the work of users on the network. Because NAS devices are server independent, they complement and help ease the burden on overworked file servers by offloading storage to a single purpose dedicated storage device.

The HP SureStore CD-ROM Server/Towers connect CD-ROM drives to twisted-pair Ethernet networks. All network users can share any CD in the connected CD-ROM drives. The server module located in the top bay of the 8-bay server/tower is internally connected to the other 7 bays, into which CD-ROM drives, DVD-ROM drives, and CD changers can be added and exchanged. The HP SureStore CD-ROM Server/Towers connect directly as nodes on an Ethernet network; they are file-server independent. Installation does not require client or server software. A network connection is the only requirement prior to using the CD-ROM server. The server/tower acts as a network file server; network client communicates directly with it using standard network operating system commands. The HP SureStore CD-ROM Server/Towers are multi-protocol devices. They are able to simultaneously support various network operating environments. New network operating systems are supportable by downloading new firmware to Flash memory.
