Sew Whats New I hope you, like me, are looking forward to our upcoming garage sale. A wonderful opportunity to trade off our extras and purchase something special from someone else one (wo)mans cast-offs are another (wo)mans treasures. Yes, we all love a bargain and there will be lots of them available! Unfortunately well have to forego Show and Tell at this meeting due to time constraints, but perhaps well get to see some results of your purchases at the March meeting. Some news from your executive: After looking forward to next year financially, we didnt see the need to increase the membership fee, so it will remain at $35.00 for 2010-11. The application form will be available at the March meeting and will also be available on the web site and in the newsletter. Also discussed was whether or not we needed to implement an additional levy on those members receiving a hard copy of their newsletter through Canada Post. It was felt that we are receiving sufficient advertising income at present to offset some of the cost so we would continue to provide this service grandfathered to those members without access to the internet. We continue to review the guilds Constitution and By-Laws to ensure they are still appropriate to our current way of work. Any changes felt necessary will be circulated to the membership well in advance to give you sufficient time to think about them before implementation. Another item we need you to think seriously about is volunteering your time on the executive committee. Terms are only two years, none of the jobs are difficult and help is always available from other executive members. There are lots of spots that would fit you to a t, so please consider putting your name forward for the positions whose two-year terms will finish in June: Facilities, Historian, Library, Membership, Newsletter, Program, Quilter of the Month, Quilts From The Heart, Secretary, Special Projects, Treasurer, Web Site, Workshop or even 2nd Vice-president! Remember, you can volunteer to serve with a friend to make the job easier.

Another quilting source.
A good suggestion comes from Chris Reid, our Bee Night lady: Those members who live in or near Pickering might like to check out the Pickering Public Library for quilting magazines, DVDs and books. The library carries subscriptions for Quilter's Newsletter Magazine, McCall's Quilting and Quilter's Home. As well, they have the following DVDs: A Simple Quilt (step by step demo of how to make a simple lap quilt), The Art of Quilting (artistry of techniques of contemporary American quilt making is explored) and Joyce Becker Teaches You Landscape Quilting; and a plethora (do you like that?) of books! This is another source to obtain quilting information in addition to the Internet sources shared by Kathy Wylie at the January meeting.

Thanks to everyone who made heart placemats for Meals on Wheels for February! The next bee night is Monday, February 8 at 7:00 at Altona Road Community church when we will be making tops for Quilts From The Heart with a fun pattern that Linda Hoiko is sharing with us. Please remember your sewing machine and sewing supplies. We will need you to bring your small cutting mat, ruler and rotary cutter as well, this time. Linda is bringing the fabric for the tops. If you have signed up and cannot make it, please let me know as I do have a waiting list. See you then!
~ Chris Reid DISPLAY
Thanks to the members who shared their creations with the rest of us. Carol Watterson showed a runner and a baby quilt she made as gifts. She also had place mats made at Bee Night. Barb Vranic dazzled us with her brightly coloured Razzle Dazzle quilt. Donna Gaudette had a wall hanging called Flower Doodling. Liane Easton did a good job on her first quilt, Early Frost. Jennifer Adamson displayed her wall hanging Let It Snow which won second in a panel challenge at the Art of Fabric shop. Gail Young showed her pillow done in a class led by Kathy Wylie from her book Sewflakes. Sonja Nielsen displayed her quilt-as-you-go jacket entitled Whispering Creek along with a round quilt. As well, there were also several place mats shown which were made at bee night and are being donated to Meals on Wheels. Quilting Tip from The Quilting Patch newsletter: When winding the bobbin, start winding a few rounds, stop and mark the thread with a washable marker and then continue winding. You will notice the mark on your stitching and know you need to refill the bobbin.

Margaret was last a member of our guild in 2007-08. Please make note on your membership list of the change in email address for Gwen Koller. Her new email address is email@example.com. There are still quite a few name badges and membership cards that have not been picked up. If you dont have a name badge and your 2009-10 card, please be sure to stop by the membership table at the next meeting.
