I once owned a Tom Tom and was quite happy with it, until it was misplaced. I recently purchased this Invion because it was a good price.

Welcome to Invion

Operating Invion GPS
2.1 MainMenuandNavigationScreens
From the Main Menu screen, you can start a new trip by tapping the GO button. You can set up your personal choices for the application's appearance and interface,by tapping Settings.
2.2 NavigationScreenButtons The toolbar button at the bottom of the screen makes it easy to navigate back to the main menu with one touch. Accepts your choice and moves you to the next step. Lets you return to a previous screen. Displays additional actions on the selected item. After you have entered an address, you can choose to use the quickest or shortest route.You can also preview the destination course by playing a simulation, before instructing the Invion GPS to generate the route: Tap to calculate the route that takes the quickest time. This is the system default. Tap to calculate the route that is the shortest distance. Tap the Go button to activate route calculation. When you click this button, the Invion GPS displays the Main Map screen with the route highlighted in blue (for 2D maps) or green (for 3D maps) and identifies the destination with a checkered flag. As you drive, the system provides visual prompts, directing you to your destination. Tap this icon to play a simulated route to your destination address.
2.3 HowtoChangetheMapView From the Main Map screen, you can switch the map from 2D to 3D to 2D North Up by tapping the Compass button. Each time you tap, the map view changes.
From the Options & Settings menu displayed by tapping the Settings button on the Main Menu, ,) you can also switch between the 2D/3D View and Day/Night View by tapping the toggle buttons.
2.4 UsingtheMapDisplayScreen The Main Map screen lets you view the map, your route, and other information about your trip. When you tap the Main Map icons they will show additional information. The Main Map icons can be turned on (to show on the map) or off (to not show) by tapping the Map Display button displayed on the Options & Settings menu. The controls and indicators on the Main Map are:
Zoom Out Compass Change from 2D to 3D to 2D North Up Volume Control and Mute The current Location and generated route Trip Information Bar Tap to toggle between the current street name, remaining time and distance, speed, etc Zoom In GPS Indicator Power indicator QuickNav Sends you to a location you have set as your QuickNav location Directions Bar Shows the next turn and the street name. Tap to see directions or an overview of your trip Menu button Returns you to the Main Menu
2.5 QuickNavOneTouchDestination The first time you press the QuickNav button, the QuickNav screen is displayed. Select a destination address (e.g. hotel address or office address) or a POI category (e.g. restaurants). After you have set the location, just touch the QuickNav button from the Main Map screen.This immediately starts navigation to the stored address or to the closest POI from the selected category. 2.6 DirectionsBar Tap the Directions Bar to display a complete turn-by-turn list of directions of your route. 2.7 GPSStatusBar The GPS Status Bar displays the remaining travel distance, travel time, estimated time of arrival, current street name, speed and altitude. 2.8 SelectingaPointontheMap By tapping the Main Map Screen you can obtain more information about a point on the map or navigate to its location directly.
2.9 BatteryStatus On the Main Map screen, the
icon means the battery is fully-charged.
means the battery is half- charged. means the battery needs recharging.
To Arrive At Your Destination
3.1 EnteringanAddress Tap to move to the next screen.

Select an address mode to instruct your Invion GPS on how you want to enter the address information. For example, if you select City First, the address sequence is City > Street > Number. In the address field type the first few letters of the city of the destination. An address list shows the entries that match the characters you have entered. The system automatically searches for those characters throughout the entire list, including in the middle or at the end of the name. When you have selected the city, tap or click the OK button to display the street list. At the top of the list is a special entry called City Center, which you can choose instead of entering a street. After selecting the street, the Invion GPS displays the address number list. At the top of this list is a special entry called Street Midpoint, which you can use instead of entering a specific number. Tap the Keyboard button to hide or display the keyboard. When you tap this button, the address list is extended, showing more address entries. Tap the Search button to display the keyboard. Tap the Erase button to remove the last character typed. Please note: If the address number that you want is not available for your selected street, the Invion GPS will generate a route to the street midpoint. 3.2 NavigatingtoaPOI(PointofInterest) POIs are popular or important locations. This option is especially useful if you are searching in a particular category for a destination but do not know the address (e.g. for a restaurant near your location).
Tap the By Name button and enter a POI name directly into the POI entry field. The system automatically displays the POI entries that match the characters entered. Tap the Browse button to display and look through common Points of Interest categories. Browse down through a category, such a food, or tap More for additional categories. When you tap Food, you can choose a category (e.g. Restaurants) and then choose a subcategory for type of cuisine. Use the Actions button to sort the results alphabetically instead of by distance.
Tap the highlighted location or click OK to navigate to the destination. Press Go to start navigation. Please note: You can hide or show a POI category or subcategory by tapping the check box next to the POI entry.

Language Settings

From the Setup 2 menu, tap Language to specify the language you want to use for screen displays, voice, and road prompts.
Installing the Device in the Car
When you mount the device in your vehicle, ensure it has a clear line of sight to the sky, that your safety and line of sight are not impaired by the navigation system. Warning! The device must not be mounted so that it impairs the drivers view of the road. Please take extra precaution to ensure that airbags are not obstructed by the device. Please note: The content of this QuickStartGuide was correct as of July 2007. Any subsequent changes to the system, the features, the user interface, the maps or operation made due to technical updates may not be included in this document.

ABOUT THE TOUCH SCREEN Do not touch the TOUCH SCREEN until the unit starts up completely. Otherwise, the touch screen may not function correctly. The navigation device is mainly operated by touching the buttons on the touch screen. If nothing happens when you touch the buttons on the touch screen, remove your hand from the screen and touch the button again. Do not touch any buttons that are grayed out. Navigation manual 1. Getting Started
Welcome to the world of mobile navigation! Simple operation, clear maps in 2D or 3D mode as well as numerous innovative features and functions have made the Invion GPS the essential guide for every traveler whether in the car, on foot or by bike. You can configure these system settings by going to these system options from the Settings menu. Language Settings Set text and voice language preferences. End User License Agreement (EULA) Please review the license information and tap the I Agree button. The EULA screen appears each time you use a new map. Time Zone You can select the Daylight Saving checkbox to automatically adjust for daylight saving. Units of Measure Specify the system measurement units. Prompts Configure the general navigation prompts and notifications. QuickNav Settings Specify an Address or Point of Interest (POI) that the Invion GPS navigates to when you tap the QuickNav button on the Main Map screen. Driver Warning When you start the Invion GPS, the Driver Warning screen appears. Please take a moment to review the information provided before tapping the OK button. Select the Do not display this warning again checkbox to skip this message in the future.

Main Map

You can use the icons displayed on this screen to plan and view your route.

Main Map Icons 1, Zoom in or out of the map to view a larger less detailed area or a smaller area in greater detail. Tap the compass to change the map view display as follows: 2D map view with the forward direction at the top. 3D map view with the forward direction at the top. 2D map view with North at the top. Tap this icon to adjust or mute the volume. When you have calculated a route, the Directions bar displays information about your next turn. Tap this bar for a complete list of turnby-turn directions.
The GPS bar is a toggle button that displays the remaining travel distance and travel time, estimated time of arrival, street name and address number, speed and altitude. The red GPS receiver means that a reliable GPS signal is not yet located. The green GPS receiver means that a reliable GPS signal is located and that you are ready to navigate. These icons display your power source. The battery appears as green, yellow, or red depending on the strength of the battery charge. Tap this icon to set your QuickNav location. When set, you can tap this button to automatically calculate a route to this location. Tap this icon to display the Go To menu.

Location Icons

Current location in Vehicle Mode or Walking Mode. Last known location when GPS signal is unreliable. Generated route.
You can drag the map to a specific point and tap the desired location directly on the Main Map screen in both 2D and 3D map view. This feature is useful when you want to navigate to a specific point on the map, rather than by the street address. When you tap on the map, the pop-up menu appears with the following options: Go There Navigate to the selected point on the map. Add to my Favorites Save a point on the map as a favorite destination for future use. Set as Starting Point Designate the selected point as the starting point instead of your current location.

Map Views

You can choose to see a two-dimensional or three-dimensional map adjusted specifically for daylight or nighttime conditions. From the Options & Setting menu, tap the Day/Night View toggle button to view the map for day or night driving and the 2D/3D View toggle button to display the map view in 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional views for day or night driving.

Route Summary

From the Manage Route menu, tap the Route Summary button. An overview of your complete route, the total driving distance to your destination, the estimated travel time, and the complete destination address, are displayed on the screen.

Location Point on Main Map

Cancel Route

From the Manage Route menu, tap the Cancel Route button. The current navigation stops and the Invion GPS clears the route. You can only cancel a route after a destination has been set.
2 Select Location and Generate Route

Go to an Address

From the Navigation menu, tap the New Address button. The Address Search Mode screen appears, allowing you to choose how you want to enter address information. For example, if you select City first, the first address screen lets you select from a list of states, the second screen a list of cities, the third screen is a list of streets, and the fourth screen lets you enter an address number. Select from the following address entry options: City first State > City > Street > Address Number Street first Street > City > Address Number You enter a street name without having to first select a city. This is useful when searching for an address in a metropolitan area where there are many cities and towns. Intersection State > City> Street > Street 2 Note: When a United States map is selected, the first address screen is always Select State.

When entering an address, you can use the keyboard to enter the characters. The characters appear in the Address field. The Invion GPS automatically searches the Address list for the first occurrence of the entered characters. After you have selected a city, the Invion GPS displays the next address field, such as street and address number. Instead of specifying a street, you have the option of selecting the City Center. If you dont know the address number, you can select the Street Midpoint. Tap the OK button to move through the sequence of address screens.

Go to Another Country

From the Address Search Mode screen, you can tap Other country map to select another country that you can travel to by vehicle. This feature is available only when you have the following maps installed: Map of the country where you are currently located. Map of the country where you want to travel. The map of the major roads for that continent that connects one map to another

Invion GPS Screen Buttons
The following buttons appear on many of the navigation screens. When you tap this button for a selected address, group, or place, the Invion GPS automatically opens the next screen in the sequence. When you tap this button, the Invion GPS returns you to the previous screen. This button provides a list of command options available for the selected address or place.

Keyboard Command Keys

The following buttons are available to enhance your search process.

Lets you remove a character that you have entered. Lets you scroll up or down the list of states, city, or street names. Tap the Keyboard button to collapse the keyboard. Tap the Search button to expand the keyboard.

You can select from the following route types: Quickest This option selects the route that takes the least amount of time. Quickest is the default setting. Shortest This option selects the route that is shorter in distance. Note: The shorter route may not always be the quickest. Go When you tap the Go button, the Invion GPS calculates the route to your selected destination. Demo Tap the icon to start navigating a simulated route. Note: Route generation excludes any detours, stops or delays along the route.

Actions

Tap the Actions button to: Set an Address as the point of origin Tap the As Starting Point button to designate the selected address as the route origin. To Show on map Tap to see the selected address on the map. Save Favourites Tap As saved address to add this address to your list of favorite locations. For more information about favorites, see Address Book on page 21. Information Tap to display additional address information and phone number (where available).

Navigate to an Address

Point of Interest (POI)
The Point of Interest (POI) list is a collection of hundreds of interesting or useful places organized by easy-to-find categories. For example, you can use the Invion GPS to guide you to a shopping center, hotel, restaurant, or gas station. Many categories have subcategories to provide for an even greater list of choices. For example, gas stations, may have many subcategories each representing a particular brand name. The same is also true for hotels. Restaurants have subcategories that represent different types of food, such as Indian, Italian, and French.

Recent Place

From the Navigation menu, tap this button to select an existing destination from a list of destinations that you have previously traveled to.

The Invion GPS automatically stores the last 64 destinations in memory. After 64 destinations have been saved, the older destination entries are erased.
Select a Recent Location Actions
Tap the Actions button to: Set an Address as the point of origin Tap the As Starting Point button to designate the selected address as the route origin. Save Favourites Tap As saved address to add this address to your list of favorite locations. For more information about favorites, see Address Book on page 21. Delete item Tap the Actions button. Tap the Delete Item button to delete an entry on the Recent Locations screen. Clear the recent location list Tap the Clear List button to clear all locations in the Recent Locations screen. To see information Tap to display additional address information.

Address Book

A Favorite is a destination that you have stored for easy retrieval. Save favorite destinations to your favorites groups and later you can easily travel to these destinations. Note: You can also add a favorite destination from the Address, POI, and Recent Place screens.

Save a Favorite Location

From the Actions screen, tap this button. Select the group to which you want to add your favorite destination.

The My Favorites folder is the default folder where all favorites are stored if not assigned to a group. This folder cannot be deleted.
Going to a Favorite Location
From the Navigation menu, tap this button to display the screen containing your favorite groups. Select a group, for example Restaurants. The Invion GPS automatically displays a list of stored locations for the selected group. 21

You can check or clear the checkmarks next to a favorite entry to show or hide the Favorites symbol on the Main Map screen.
Creating a Favorite Group
From the Favorites screen, tap Actions to add, edit, or delete groups. Enter a group name and select a group icon.

Turn Avoid

Avoid Roads
You can specify that certain roads be permanently excluded from your route calculations. Use this feature when you want to avoid congested roads, toll roads, or unsafe streets. From the Manage Route menu, tap the Avoid Roads button. The Avoid Roads screen appears, displaying predefined road groups.

The Invion GPS provides the following predefined road groups: Ferries The default value is to avoid. Gated Communities The default value is to allow. Motorways Roads that allow for high volume, maximum speed traffic movement between and through major metropolitan areas. The default value is to allow. My Roads to Avoid This is a default folder that lets you store roads to avoid. You can display the items in this folder and allow or avoid specific roads. Toll Roads The default value is to avoid. To allow or avoid a predefined road group: Select a predefined group and tap the Allow/Avoid toggle button. The next time you calculate a route, the Invion GPS calculates a route based on your avoid or allow selections. Note: Predefined road groups are allowed or avoided as an entire group. You cannot allow or avoid individual toll roads, highways, or ferries.

Creating a Group within Avoid Roads
Tap this button and select Add Group. From the Add Group screen, enter the group name and tap OK.

The Actions screen also lets you edit or delete a selected group.

Adding a Road to Avoid

When you tap My Roads to Avoid or a road group, the Invion GPS displays the group screen, which lets you designate roads to avoid. From this screen, you can use the Allow or Avoid buttons to include or exclude individual roads when calculating a route.

Tap Actions and then the Add Road button. Select the state, city and street. The road is displayed on the Show on Map screen. Tap the Avoid button. 27

Avoid Road Actions

Tap the Actions button to: Edit Road Tap to rename the road and/or select a different group. When you have made your changes, tap OK. Delete Item Select a road and tap this button to remove the road from your group. The Invion GPS no longer avoids the removed road. To Show on Map Tap to show the map with the displayed destination for you to review before creating a route. To see information Tap to display the locations address information.

Detour

From the Manage Route menu, tap the Detour button. The Detour screen lets you instruct the Invion GPS to create a detour to avoid a road event, such as an accident.

Select the Detour option that you want to generate a detour for the distance specified. For example, if you are traveling on a major highway and you are alerted by the news that there is traffic for the next 2 miles, you can have the Invion GPS calculate a detour that takes you off the highway and then returns you back to the highway after a distance of 2 miles.

Map Browsing

You can browse the map without a GPS signal. From the Options & Settings menu, tap Map Browsing button to disconnect from the GPS receiver.

You can reconnect to GPS, by going to the Options & Settings menu and tapping the GPS Navigation button.

Walking Mode

Walking Mode lets you travel as a Pedestrian, generating a route up to 6.2 miles, which is not limited by vehicle constraints, such as one way streets. When creating a Walking route, the Invion GPS avoids highways or other roads where Pedestrians would not travel. Voice prompts are deactivated in this mode. From the Options & Settings menu, tap the Walking Mode button. You can switch back to Vehicle Mode by tapping the Vehicle Mode button. Note: When Walking Mode is selected, Driving Directions, Route Summary, Avoid Roads, and Detour features are disabled.

Map Selection

From the Options Setup 1 menu, tap the Select Map button to change the selected map to another map saved on your Invion GPS or SD/MMC memory card.

The icon identifies your current position. You can use the arrow cursor to move the map. When you have located the street destination, you can tap that point on the map. A popup menu appears. Tap Go There to navigate to the selected point.

The Invion GPS immediately implements the selected map for all navigation features. If it is the first time that you are using a map, an End-User Agreement License (EULA) screen appears. Read it and then select the Agree checkbox to continue working with the Invion GPS.

You can also choose from the following Select Map commands: Refresh Tap to refresh the screen when a new memory card is inserted into the device. Delete Tap to permanently remove a selected map. Note: You cannot delete the map you are currently using.

Settings Menus

From the Main menu, tap the Settings button to let you configure the Invion GPS system settings and utilize travel playback and demonstration features.

GPS Troubleshooting

Signal too low When you first start the Invion GPS you may hear the Signal too low message. This message means that your navigation device hasnt yet located a reliable GPS signal. Check that your device is connected to a power source, such as the cigarette lighter, and has a clear view of the sky. GPS Not Found For devices with an external antenna, the GPS not found message means that your device is not connected to a GPS antenna or that the antenna is not properly installed. For more information about GPS, see GPS Settings on page 36-37. Please check that: The GPS antenna is extended or flipped up (for an external antenna only). The GPS antenna has a clear view of the sky for uninterrupted GPS reception. The Invion GPS cannot calculate the route if there is no GPS reception (for example, in a tunnel). The navigation device is charged or connected to a power source, such as the cigarette lighter.

Units of Measure

From the Options Setup 1 menu, tap this button to specify the measurement system you would like to use. You can select: Miles, Yards Miles, 10th of a Mile Kilometers, Meters

Time Settings

From the Options Setup 1 menu, tap this button to display time settings.

Map Settings

From the Options&Settings menu, tap the Map Display button to select from the map interface options listed below.

You can choose the following options for the main map: Forward up Use Larger Labels Popup Menu Use Automatic Zoom Orients the map so that the direction you are traveling is always at the top of the screen.
