THE STORY OF
The story of Jamo begins in a tiny henhouse in the Danish fishing village of Glyngre in 1966, when a young joiner named Preben Jacobsen decided to pursue his greatest dream. With a fine sense of superior craftsmanship and a passion for great sound, Preben began designing and producing loudspeaker cabinets, and then filling them with the best acoustics technology available. In 1968, two years after building his first speaker, Preben realised that he would need a good salesman if he wanted the world to know his excellent products. Here Prebens brother-inlaw Julius Mortensen enters the story. A former export salesman in the fishing industry, Julius contributed invaluable sales experience to the project. The two joined forces to found Jamo, which takes its name from the first two letters of the two mens surnames: Jacobsen and Mortensen. With this step, a visionary company with a pioneering spirit prepared to take on the world. In 1970 the first actual factory was built in Glyngre, and just three years later Jamo was ready to take part in the worlds largest electronics trade fair: the IFA in Berlin. In 1994 Jamo officially became the biggest producer of loudspeakers in Europe, and by the time the company celebrated its 30th anniversary in 1998, more than 11.5 million Jamo speakers had been sold in more the 80 countries around the world.
Right from the start Jamos mission has been to produce sound solutions that make a difference. Our raison d'etre (reason for being) is to bring entertainment into peoples lives through our sublime sound solutions. TECHNOLOGY

Waveguide Tweeter All S60 models utilise the Jamo Waveguide Tweeter, characterised by a slightly concave shaped faceplate. This design ensures a more uniform dispersion of the high frequencies (2 - 10 kHz) and minimises sound diffraction and distortion in the critical vocal range, as well as improving the sonic transition from the tweeter to the other driver units. The stunning S606 Speaker from Jamo has all the Audiophile details youd expect from the leading European Loudspeaker manufacturer with nearly 40 years experience in speaker design and technology. Details such as bi-wiring terminals and adjustable spikes improve sound quality in the critical areas of imaging and soundstage.

Aluminium Centre Plug The mid / bass drivers feature technology from the Jamo D8 flagship models by replacing the traditional dust cap with an aluminium centre plug. By reducing unwanted pressure within the driver unit, this design allows increased freedom of movement, improved heat dissipation and better power handling. The result is a more uncoloured sound with superior attack and faster transient response.

S60 SERIES

S606 FRONT SPEAKERS Each floorstanding S606 Front Speaker features a 1" dome Waveguide tweeter, two 5" midrange drivers to ensure strong, clear vocal and instrumental reproduction plus an 8" side-mounted subwoofer to deliver deep, thunderous bass. The S606 is fully equipped for optional bi-wiring and bi-amplification to allow better separation of the various frequencies, thus enhancing clarity. S604 BOOKSHELF / SURROUND SPEAKER This compact bi-wireable bookshelf speaker features a 2-way bass-reflex configuration, ensuring pin-sharp imaging and great bass response (down to 50 Hz), belying its compact size. As with all models in the S60 series, a 1" (25 mm) Waveguide Tweeter is utilised. The S604 features a 61/2" (165 mm) woofer set in an attractive gloss black front baffle. Available in either Dark Apple or Black Ash cabinet, the S604 combines good looks with great sound what more could you ask for!
MATCHING SUBWOOFERS Jamo Subwoofers are designed to enhance your Home Entertainment experience whether it be the movie soundtrack explosions or the subtle musical nuances and dynamic peaks in your favourite music. They all feature a number of variable user preferences, such as level, phase and cut-off frequency control, as well as both line-level and speaker level connectivity. When purchased in a package, the S606 Speakers are supplied with either the Jamo SUB250 or SUB300. For information on the entire range of Jamo Active Subwoofers, refer to page 26.
S602 BOOKSHELF / SURROUND SPEAKER To ensure a consistent soundstage (the same tonal characteristics from all channels), the S602 Surrounds utilise the same Waveguide Tweeter and 4" mid / bass driver as the Centre. As with the matching Centre, the S602 Surrounds are supplied with brackets for wall-mounting. The Jamo S602 is also an ideal compact bookshelf speaker in a stereo music system.

S60CEN CENTRE SPEAKER The matching Centre is housed in a bass-reflex cabinet with two 4" mid / bass drivers to deliver the centre channel information clearly and precisely. The 1" Waveguide Tweeter handles higher frequencies with pinpoint accuracy.

SUB200

This subwoofer has a 200 W amplifier and a longthrow 8" woofer housed in a bass-reflex enclosure which gives it a level of performance that is second to none. The auto on/off and controls for level, cut-off frequency and phase, together with both line-level and high-level inputs, make it easy to integrate with all front speakers in this series.

S41CEN AND S413

The S41CEN centre and S413 Surround Speakers come with supplied wall mounts, allowing versatility when it comes to placement options.
Featuring a 1" dome tweeter and two 8" mineral-reinforced bass drivers for even more precise sound reproduction, Jamo S418 is the most powerful model in the Studio series. S418 is prepared for optional spikes.
Complete Solution Choose the slimline S416 or larger S418 as your Front Speakers to complement the matching S41CEN and S413 Surrounds. The optional 200 W 8" SUB200 Active Subwoofer will add the extra Home Theatre realism in any Hollywood blockbuster.

WHAT IS A SUBWOOFER?
A subwoofer is a dedicated bass loudspeaker made specifically to reproduce sound at the lower end of the audio spectrum under 200 Hz. As their popularity has gained, subwoofers have become a natural and essential part of the home cinema and stereo experience. Adding a subwoofer to your sound system gives you a richer, more faithful audio representation of movies, TV and music. The high quality subwoofers of today are always active with their own integrated amplifier and power supply. LOOK, LISTEN AND FEEL Sound is a three-dimensional experience meant to stimulate more than just your ears. To illustrate what we mean, we have focused on three senses. LOOK Because it is invisible, sounds central role in the complete film experience is often overlooked. But it is without doubt sound that completes the picture. The King of Subs, Jamo SUB650, is intended for high-performance speaker systems. It features a powerful front-firing design with an explosive 12" long-throw woofer and a closed cabinet to eliminate any port noise. SUB650 delivers a breathtaking 650 W of peak power from the BASH amplifier. Boundary Gain Compensation contributes to it reaching down to an incredible 24 Hz. For custom applications, the SUB650 also features a 12 V trigger input. Available in Black Ash or Dark Apple finish.

SUB550

With frequencies as low as 26 Hz, the SUB 550 offers awesome performance for music and movies. It features a 10" long-throw woofer and an amplifier capable of delivering an awesome 550 W of peak power, all housed in Jamos clever slotted port cabinet. The flatter, more accurate bass response is partly thanks to Boundary Gain Compensation (BGC). This is a technology derived from THX and allows for greater placement flexibility, by filtering out the excessive bass sometimes experienced in certain rooms. Available in Black Ash or Dark Apple finish.

SUB300

The SUB300 is equipped with a powerful 10" long-throw woofer unit housed in the unique slotted port cabinet and a BASH amplifier capable of delivering 300 W of peak power. The powerful amplifier, increased cabinet size and unique design make this subwoofer capable of delivering both a higher sound pressure level (SPL) and a flat frequency response, down to 28 Hz. All delivered, of course, with maximum musical fidelity and a flat frequency response. The SUB300 is equipped with a frontmounted volume control. Available in Black Ash or Dark Apple finish.
THE INNER AND OUTER QUALITIES
SUB250 CABINETS Jamo Subwoofers are made of solid, resonance-dead MDF board and come in several finishes. Except for the SUB650, which features a closed cabinet design, most other subs feature an integrated slotted port cabinet. This allows for deeper tuning, superior power handling and distinct sonic fidelity. Last but not least, the integrated port design ensures great rigidity and stability in the cabinet design. AMPLIFIERS SUB250 and higher feature highly efficient BASH amplifier technology, which combines the musical quality of class A/B amplifiers with the efficiency of class D amplifiers. BASH technology translates into more efficient, yet more powerful amplification without the heat associated with conventional amplifiers. Jamo Subwoofers feature a convenient on / auto / off switch and built-in limiter, which means that sound reproduction will always be clean and as well defined as intended. DRIVERS At the heart of these powerful subwoofers are new, long-throw super drivers, capable of moving large amounts of air with incredible speed and precise control. The 8" and 10" drivers feature a 1.5" (38 mm) four-layer voice coil and the 12" driver from the SUB650 is equipped with a 2" (50 mm) four-layer voice coil. The heavy magnet systems feature a vented pole piece in order to avoid over / under pressure behind the dust cap (mechanical damping) when the cone is moving. These drivers are an important part of the reason why all our subwoofers offer top specifications and peak performance.

The 8" SUB250 incorporates its bass port into the cabinet housing, a unique design resulting in very deep bass down to 30 Hz without the large enclosure usually needed to achieve this. It features a powerful BASH amplifier capable of delivering 250 W of peak power. This highly efficient digital amplifier generates more power with less heat than standard amplifiers. The SUB250 also features a Bass Limiter, ensuring that the sound reproduced is exactly as its intended clean and undistorted. Available in Black Ash or Dark Apple finish.

CUSTOMISED COMPONENTS On paper an electrical component might look excellent but the result may fall short of the combined design expectations. Marantz selects the appropriate components for the specific design application. In some cases its simply not possible to use standard components that meet the high Marantz standards. These components will then be specially made for Marantz in close cooperation with the Marantz engineers DVD-AUDIO DVD-Audio is a music format that takes advantage of the high storage capacity of the DVD to present high quality audio up to six channels. For six channel amplification, DVD-Audio provides the possibility to have 96 kHz / 24-bit audio information for all six channels, which results in an increased dynamic range (144 dB) and an increased frequency range (0-96 kHz). In stereo mode DVD-Audio expands the limit of the sampling rate to 192 kHz. The higher the bit-rate and the sampling frequency the more accurate the reproduction of the original recorded piece of music can be done MARANTZ ROOM ACOUSTIC CALIBRATION (MRAC) Based on our room acoustics knowledge and expertise already shown in previous products the Marantz Room Acoustic Calibration (MRAC) was developed. Taking into account reflections from walls, ceiling and floor and our knowledge about psycho-acoustics, MRAC optimises the sound for the room acoustics. With a supplied microphone placed on your listening position, a powerful DSP analyses accurately and sets the sound configuration for your listening room fully automatically. MRAC can test and control speaker configuration, speaker size, trim and distance/delay. All for best sound and easy set-up SUPER AUDIO CD Super Audio CD (SACD) is a next generation of music format that provides a more natural, ultra-high quality sound. It offers a smooth migration path to a higher quality sound, as all existing CDs can be played on the SACD player. SACD is based on the Direct Stream Digital (DSD) technology, which uses 1-bit delta-sigma modulation and a sampling frequency that is 64 times higher than that of the CD. This enables the SACD to offer a frequency range up to 100 KHz and a dynamic range of 120 dB SYMMETRICAL CIRCUIT LAYOUT To achieve the best possible sonic performance, signal paths need to be short, direct and mirror imaged. The construction of our circuitry provides improved stereo imaging by ensuring close to perfect symmetry between right and left channel layout TOROIDAL TRANSFORMER Toroidal transformer has several advantages over a normal EI core transformer. The benefits of DD-EX include more realistic fly-over and fly-around effects from an additional rear centre speaker (6.1), providing a more stable image for atmospheres and music and a more consistent surround effect throughout the auditorium or home viewing area DOLBY PRO LOGIC IIx Dolby Pro Logic IIx is a complete surround sound solution that maximises the entertainment experience from stereo as well as 5.1 channel encoded sources. Dolby Pro Logic IIx technology features Movie and Music modes that function with 5.1 as well as stereo sources, including 192 kHz / 24-bit and 96 kHz / 24-bit sources. Dolby Pro Logic IIx technology delivers a natural and immersing 7.1 channel listening experience to the home theatre environment DOLBY DIGITAL PLUS Dolby Digital Plus offers new levels of enhanced audio resolution and fidelity, further complementing the superior video performance of Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD. VIDEO TECHNOLOGY
DivX DivX is a video compression tool developed to exchange film content via the internet. With a DivX certified DVD player it is easy to take digital video from the computer and play it back on the normal TV at almost DVD quality. Thanks to DivX technologys superior compression, hours of DVD-quality video can be saved on a single CD. The latest improved version is called DivX 6.0. The new DivX offers enhanced multimedia and interactive features such as subtitling, DVD-esque video menus and chapter points. Video files created in the new format are handily identified by a new file extension, DivX. Please check capability per product in the specification section HIGH-DEFINITION MULTIMEDIA INTERFACE (HDMI) HDMI combines high-definition video and superb audio in a single digital interface with a bandwidth of up to 10 Gigabits/ second. CI-Ready CI-Ready indicates that the products are equipped with connections like RS232, Flasher Out, IR Receiver in, DC-Trigger and similar used especially in the Custom Installation area. The RS232 for example is a communication port direct to the micro processor of the device. It is possible to control the component and get status feedback via this connection without any visual contact and even offers a way to update the system software if needed. Marantz products have dedicated remote codes and RS232 codes for any function including discrete power on / off D-BUS To optimise equipment ease of use, Marantz has designed the D-Bus system. THE STORY OF

The story of Jamo begins in a tiny henhouse in the Danish fishing village of Glyngre in 1966, when a young joiner named Preben Jacobsen decided to pursue his greatest dream. With a fine sense of superior craftsmanship and a passion for great sound, Preben began designing and producing loudspeaker cabinets, and then filling them with the best acoustics technology available. In 1968, two years after building his first speaker, Preben realised that he would need a good salesman if he wanted the world to know his excellent products. Here Prebens brother-inlaw Julius Mortensen enters the story. A former export salesman in the fishing industry, Julius contributed invaluable sales experience to the project. The two joined forces to found Jamo, which takes its name from the first two letters of the two mens surnames: Jacobsen and Mortensen. With this step, a visionary company with a pioneering spirit prepared to take on the world. In 1970 the first actual factory was built in Glyngre, and just three years later Jamo was ready to take part in the worlds largest electronics trade fair: the IFA in Berlin. In 1994 Jamo officially became the biggest producer of loudspeakers in Europe, and by the time the company celebrated its 30th anniversary in 1998, more than 11.5 million Jamo speakers had been sold in more the 80 countries around the world.

CUSTOMISED COMPONENTS On paper an electrical component might look excellent but the result may fall short of the combined design expectations. Marantz selects the appropriate components for the specific design application. In some cases its simply not possible to use standard components that meet the high Marantz standards. These components will then be specially made for Marantz in close cooperation with the Marantz engineers DVD-AUDIO DVD-Audio is a music format that takes advantage of the high storage capacity of the DVD to present high quality audio up to six channels. For six channel amplification, DVD-Audio provides the possibility to have 96 kHz / 24-bit audio information for all six channels, which results in an increased dynamic range (144 dB) and an increased frequency range (0-96 kHz). In stereo mode DVD-Audio expands the limit of the sampling rate to 192 kHz. The higher the bit-rate and the sampling frequency the more accurate the reproduction of the original recorded piece of music can be done MARANTZ ROOM ACOUSTIC CALIBRATION (MRAC) Based on our room acoustics knowledge and expertise already shown in previous products the Marantz Room Acoustic Calibration (MRAC) was developed. Taking into account reflections from walls, ceiling and floor and our knowledge about psycho-acoustics, MRAC optimises the sound for the room acoustics. With a supplied microphone placed on your listening position, a powerful DSP analyses accurately and sets the sound configuration for your listening room fully automatically. MRAC can test and control speaker configuration, speaker size, trim and distance/delay. All for best sound and easy set-up SUPER AUDIO CD Super Audio CD (SACD) is a next generation of music format that provides a more natural, ultra-high quality sound. It offers a smooth migration path to a higher quality sound, as all existing CDs can be played on the SACD player. SACD is based on the Direct Stream Digital (DSD) technology, which uses 1-bit delta-sigma modulation and a sampling frequency that is 64 times higher than that of the CD.
