Step 1 - disassembly Take off Back Cover
On the back of the camcorder, the side opposite of the flip-out screen, there is a section of grooved plastic. Press down and towards the bottom of the camcorder. The back cover should slide right off.
Step 2 - installation Battery
Once you have the back cover off, the camcorder should look like this. You can look on the battery for a model number so you can aquire the correct replacement. The camcorder model number is located in the red box. Verify that you have a Jazz HDV178.

Step 3

Take the battery out by pulling up on the bottom, the side close to where the wrist strap attaches.

Step 4 - disassembly Pulling camcorder apart
Take off camera mount by unscrewing the 4.5 mm screw in the hole. This is the bottom of the camcorder near where the wrist strap connects.

Step 5

Remove the 4.5 mm screw located near the battery slot.

Step 6

Pry off the lens cover. It is held on by glue, so take time to break the glue loose without putting stress on the components. We recommend using a plastic prying tool.

Step 7
Use a small plastic pry tool to gently pry off the silver strip on the top of the camera. Run the tool under the strip as you pry it off so the plastic does not snap.

Step 8

On the front of the camcorder (beneath the lens) remove the silver strip using the same caution as in the previous step. Remove the two 4 mm screws that were hidden under the cover.

Step 9
Pry off the rubbery cover over the buttons similar to the previous two steps. As the cover comes off, slide your prying tool underneath to break the glue apart so the cover does not snap.

Step 10

Remove the three combined buttons so they do not become misplaced.

Step 11
Get a firm hold on both sides of the camcorder and gently pull apart. It should come apart easily, but if it does not then go back through the steps to make sure you removed each screw. Pressure should be evenly distributed across entire device.
Step 12 - Operating Buttons
Remove the rubbery piece that has the two buttons on it using tweezers. Blow on the sensors underneath, much like with old Nintendo 64 game cartridges, to remove dust that may be affecting the sensors. You could also dab a little rubbing alcohol on the sensor pad with a Q-tip and let dry.
