High Quality Picture and Sound
MiniDV Format with High-Band Processor
MiniDV is the de facto standard in digital video now, and will continue to be far into the future. In combination with JVCs Super High-Band Processor, MiniDV lets this digital video camera deliver a high resolution picture with 520 lines of horizontal resolution, and breathtaking colours with over 3 times the bandwidth of conventional analogue video.
800,000-Pixel CCD
This high-resolution CCD provides an excellent source for high quality images.
PCM Stereo Sound
Offers a choice of 2-channel (16-bit linear, 48 kHz) and 4-channel (12-bit nonlinear, 32 kHz) recording.
Versatile Multimedia Interfacing
DV Connector
This terminal (i.Link, IEEE 1394 compliant) enables digitalto-digital image transfer to a computer or another DV unit in native DV format. In addition to output, GR-DVL557/357/ 157 also offers DV input capability. (GR-DVL557) Lets you hook-up to an analogue camcorder or VCR and copy your old recordings over to digital. A great way to get your VHS tape collection into the digital age. Easy & Direct! (GR-DVL557/555/357/355) Enables high-speed transfer of digital still images to a USB-compatible personal computer. With USB Mass Storage Class support, the cameras icon is automatically mounted on your computer screen for easy access just by connecting the USB cable.
USB Cable OR PC Cable (RS-232C)
Analogue Input
SD Memory Card/MultiMediaCard Compatibility (GR-DVL557/555/357/355)
USB Terminal
Just eject the memory card and load it into an optional Floppy Disk Adapter or PC Card Adapter for easy downloading to computer. An 8 MB MultiMediaCard comes provided. The optional SD Memory Card, a next-generation mainstream compact storage media, will ensure high-speed transferability of larger volumes of data. DCF* file format enables data exchange with products by third party manufacturers, and DPOF (Digital Print Order Format) support lets you easily specify how many prints of which shots you wish to make on compatible printers.
*Design Rules for Camera File Systems established by the Japan Electronic Industry Development Association.
Direct PC Connection (Serial) (GR-DVL450/157/150)
Simply connect the camcorder to your PCs serial port* and run the supplied JLIP software for computercontrolled capture of still images from your DV footage, or computer-controlled linear video editing to a connected video deck.
*RS-232C type connector on PC running Windows 95/98/2000 Professional/Me

Digital NightScope
Simulated Picture
300x Super Digital Zoom with Spline Interpolation
In addition to 10x optical zoom, youll have 300x digital zoom magnification. Spline Interpolation technology smoothes image contours to minimise jagged edges.
Boosts light sensitivity for a bright picture even in environments with minimal illumination.* And unlike infrared-based systems which OFF ON turn the image black-and-white and have limitations on their effective distance, Digital NightScope always gives you full colour, whether your subject is closeby or far away. Turn it on, and wake up the colours without awakening your subject.
*JVCs Digital NightScope combines digital slow shutter and image processing technology. With rapidly moving subjects, image trails may be displayed.
10x Optical Zoom
Picture Stabiliser
It recognises the users unique camerashake characteristics to eliminate shaky pictures more effectively.
300x Digital Zoom
Built-in Auto Light
Automatically turns on or off* depending on how bright the surrounding light is.
*Can also be turned ON/OFF manually.
High-Resolution Amorphous Silicon LCD Colour Monitor
This tiltable viewscreen allows high-angle overhead shooting in crowds, low-angle shots, and self-portraits when pointed forward. 2.5" (GR-DVL357/355/157/ 150) or 3.5" (GR-DVL557/555/450) LCD screen size.
Long-Time Recording Capability
In addition to the supplied 75 min. Lithium-ion battery pack, other high capacity batteries are available optionally including a 2.5-hour high-capacity battery as well as the 8 hr. 40 min. high-capacity battery kit VU-V856KIT.*
