Good clear display A simple product to setup, which, so far, has proved to be an immense improvement over the 7 year old IIyama CRT screen. Great external display for MacBook I use it with my MacBook as a secondary monitor (2 yr old MacBook 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo with 3 GB).

Operating manual

Automatic Positioner HDP 170
for caravan receiver UFD 540

Order no.: 214 133

Preface
Dear Customer, The following operating manual will help you obtain the best optimal use of the automatic positioner HDP 170 in conjunction with your satellite receiver UFD 540. We have written this operating manual as comprehensibly as possible and as concise as necessary. During longer pauses, separate the positioner from the mains, in order to save energy. During short pauses, you should switch the positioner to standby with the remote control, so the least amount of energy is consumed. We wish you a great reception and much enjoyment with your new mobile satellite system. Your, KATHREIN-Team

Important notes

If you should have any unexpected problems with your positioner, please contact your specialist dealer. Your positioner has been equipped with the latest software at the factory. We are always trying to adjust the software to the desires of our customers and to the state-of-the-art technology. Refer to section "Software and Programme Lists Update" for more information. Please note, that the positioner was designed only for operation with the satellite receiver UFD 540! Please refer to the mounting instructions for the HDP 170 or CAP 200!

Sat IF connections

The coaxial cable, which is coming from the antenna, is connected to the Sat IF input. The Sat IF output is connected with the Sat IF input of the UFD 540 with a supplied coaxial cable. The connections must be established in this sequence because the supply voltage of the LNB runs through the coaxial cable.
Connection to vehicles electronic system
The supplied supply voltage cable (wires: brown/white/green) is connected to the vehicles electronic system (battery buffered). Brown is connected with +, white with and the green wire with the ignition behind the ignition lock, so the current flows, once the ignition is switched on. The green connection is important, because it guarantees that the positioner is set to its parked position, once the ignition is switched on. This means, that the vehicle can not move with the erected antenna. Low voltage from the vehicles electronic system can lead to uncontrolled error messages (e.g. Overload even though it does not exist).

Control cable

The control cable from the positioner is connected with the control unit.

Alignment

Before you put your satellite system into operation, make sure that there is free visibility between your system and the satellite positions to the South, and that this visibility is not obstructed by trees or tall buildings. This will save you time and trouble!

Remote control

The control unit of the HDP 170 can only be operated together with the satellite receiver UFD 540. The settings can only be made via the receivers remote control. Please refer to the operating manual of the UFD 540 for information about using the remote control also the numerical entry via the numerical buttons.

On screen displays

The button symbols for other operating functions are found in the lower section of the on screen display. For further help, press.

Initialising

The following message appears after the receiving system is switched on:

The antenna is automatically aligned and can be manually corrected. If a HDP is connected, the menu item HDP antenna alignment must be set to On. Access this menu item via the main menu of the UFD 540 by pressing the
button as well as the or button.
The factory setting is Off. The setting for the operation with a HDP 170 is HDP antenna alignment - On. Make this setting by using the
or button. Afterwards you can exit the menu. Each time the receiver is switched on, the positioner automatically searches for the previously received programme and the respective satellite position (e.g. ZDF/Astra). Each satellite transmits its own identification signal and is automatically recognised by the receiver. The search lasts one to two minutes, according to the starting position. The following message appears:
Afterwards, the message shown below appears identifying, that the satellite has not yet been stored in the system.
As soon as the positioner has found the correct satellites, an automatic fine tuning is carried out. During this tuning, the picture may freeze, which is caused by the system.
After a successful tuning, the following message appears for a few seconds:
Normally, no further corrections are necessary. After 1-2 minutes, the searched satellite is set. The following fine tuning lasts approximately 2 minutes. Afterwards, the set position is saved. To call up another satellite lasts about 30 seconds.

Manual correction

The setting may need to be corrected in the fringe areas of the satellite footprint. For this reason, it is possible to manually correct the fine tuning. Access the HDP menu from the position HDP antenna alignment
. In the positions Elevation On in the main menu by pressing and Azimuth, you can correct the slope and the horizontal angle of
the antenna by using the or button or by entering a value with the numerical buttons. Observe the bar level and qual on the left side for controlling the alignment. The higher the bar, the stronger and better the received signal is. At the same time, you can switch on
a search tone by pressing the button. The pitch of the tone corresponds with the strength of the signal. The graphical representation in the lower section (green with a red point) relays the relative position of the antenna. While the positioner moves the antenna to the desired direction, a respective message appears for elevation and azimuth.
After a successful manual alignment, you can exit the menu again.

Reset/Parking

After the mobile home or caravan has been moved to another site, you should reset the control unit, and start the search anew.
To reset the unit, access the HDP menu (see above), and select the position Reset/parking. With the reset the control unit by pressing

button, select Reset and

Note Before exchanging individual components (control unit or receiver) for service reasons, the antenna should be driven into its lowered position with reset. After the reset, all satellite positions, which have been saved in the control unit, are deleted. However, the satellite data in the receiver is retained.

Changing location

After changing the location, you can accelerate the satellite search by pressing Reset. In the example below, the antenna is searching for Hotbird. The following messages appear in the following sequence.
If you would like to continue searching for satellites, confirm this by pressing pears:
. After a successful search, the following message ap-

Parking

There are three ways to park the antenna. The antenna can be set to its parked position within 2 seconds by pressing the

button twice.

Once you want to move the vehicle or take the receiving system out of operation, you should lower the antenna to its resting position.
To do so, go to the position Reset/parking in the HDP menu, and select the menu item Parking with the tion by pressing
or button. Confirm selec-
The antenna is driven to its lowered position, which is confirmed afterwards (see below).
The antenna automatically moves to the parked position, once the ignition is started! In order for this to occur, the green wire of the supply voltage cable must be connected with the ignition (see Connection arrangement).

Satellite Lost

In rare cases, the satellite can be lost during a search, e.g. for a weak signal in the fringe area of the footprint. If this should occur, the following message appears:
to start the search again.
The following message confirms the satellite search.

Software Download

You can download new software for the HDP 170 from the Astra system. Select the position Software download in the installation menu using the
or button. Here, you can choose between UFD 540 or
HDP 170. Select HDP 170 and confirm with display appears:

. The following

This display indicates which satellite you are receiving. You can decide, if you want to download the software from the satellite on the proposed position (Yes) the stored versions are indicated with fourdigits (0114) and if you want to receive the info text. The system starts downloading the software once you press in the position Start. The entire process lasts approximately 1 hour. The download is confirmed with the following message: During a download, never start the ignition. This may lead to disturbance or malfunction.

During the download, do not switch the system off! The message below appears during the download.
The inactive software is overwritten with the downloaded software. For safety reasons, two software versions are saved. If one of the versions fails or a download error occurs, the second software version can be used for the operation of the HDP 170.
Selection of Operating Software
You can see what software version you use for your system in the HDP menu under the position Current software. Here, select the desired operating software with the or button.
After the software has been changed, the following message appears:
The older software is overwritten by the download.

Special Messages

The following error messages are displayed on the screen to protect your receiving system and the vehicles electronic network:
When this message appears, please check if the positioner and the antenna are blocked by an object (e.g. branch). Proceed in the sequence shown above. The following message indicates, that the battery voltage has sunk under the minimal value and must be charged.
You may continue operating the system, but communication errors may occur between the receiver and the HDP (e.g. satellite search). During the charge, the antenna should not be moved, in order to avoid maximum currents when switching the unit on.
