Strong electrical fields (such as from power lines) may cause unstable sound quality when CRSC is turned ON. In such a situation, turn it OFF. The connected cell-phone must have the SMS function to use the SMS function.
Location played with FILE SCAN - Audio file: First 10 seconds - Music Editor media: First 10 seconds or the part picked by Intro Skip. During Intro Skip, turn the control knob left or right to change the song. The scan method depends on the Music Editor setting. See the Music Editor help for details.

If the selected display item does not have any information, alternative information is displayed. When LX-AMP is connected, the item setup by the Display mode of LX-AMP is displayed. When selecting Folder name while playing with iPod, names will be displayed depending on currently selected browsing items. If the iPod Control by Hand Mode is set to on while playing the iPod, iPod by Hand Mode is displayed. If all characters cannot be displayed while playing with iPod, the file number in the list is displayed.

Creating User color You can create your original color during the selection from Color1 Color10. The color you created can be called when you select User. 1. Press the Control knob for at least 1 second. Enter the detail color adjustment mode. 2. Set the color. Operation type Operation To select the color to adjust. Push the Control knob towards right (red, green, or blue) or left. To adjust color. Turn the Control knob or push it (Range: 0 9) towards up or down. 3. Press the Control knob. Exit the detail color adjustment mode.
5 Exit Auxiliary input display setting mode
When operation stops for 10 seconds, the name at that time is registered, and the Auxiliary input display setting mode closes. The Auxiliary input display can be set only when the built-in auxiliary input or the auxiliary input of optional KCA-S220A is used. On the KCA-S220A, AUX EXT is displayed by default. AUX source is initially set to OFF. Before display setting, set Built in AUX described in <Function Control> (page 6) to ON. : Select MENU > Built in AUX

Search for the song (in iPod) you want to play.

*1 Skip Search: The number of songs to be skipped is determined by the ratio of the total number of songs in the list which is selected now. Set the ratio with Skip Search in <Function Control> (page 6). Keep pushing Control knob for 3 seconds or longer skips songs at 10% irrespective of the setting. Characters that are included in a song name but cannot be displayed are left blank. If no character included in a song name cannot be displayed, the browse item name and digits are displayed.

The outgoing call list and the incoming call list, and the missed call list are the lists of calls originated from and received at this unit. They are not the ones stored in the cell-phone memory.

During search, a non-accent character such as u is searched for instead of an accent character such as.

Registering to the Preset Dial Number List 1 Enter the phone number you wish to register

PB Name? is displayed. When a beep is heard, utter the name within 2 second.
3 PN Type is displayed.
When a beep is heard, utter the category within 2 second.
This step is the same as step 3 of the procedure in <Calling a number in the Phone Book>. You can make a call or select a category.
Exit the Preset Memory mode Press the [ ] button.
If your voice cannot be recognized, a message is displayed. Pressing the Control knob allows you to retry voice input. (page 54) Both the name and category requires registration of a voice tag. (page 39) Audio sound is not output during voice recognize.

For details on the Bluetooth Audio player which can be connected, see <About the Bluetooth Audio player> (page 47). You need to register your Bluetooth Audio player before using it with this unit. For more details, see <Registering Bluetooth device> (page 36). You to select the Bluetooth audio player you wish to connect. Refer to <Selecting the Bluetooth device You Wish to Connect> (page 37).
Selecting Bluetooth Audio source Press the [SRC] button. Select the BT Audio display. For how to select source item, refer to <Power/ Source Select button> of <Basic Operation> (page 4). Pause and play Press the Control knob. Music Search Push the Control knob towards right or left.
All or some of the operations above cannot be performed if the Bluetooth audio player is not ready for remote control. Switching between Bluetooth audio sources does not start or stop playback automatically. Perform the operation for starting or stopping playback. Some audio players cannot be controlled remotely or reconnected after Bluetooth disconnection. Operate the main unit of the audio player to connect Bluetooth.
Activating Security Code Deactivating Security Code
To deactivate the Security Code function.
You can set the Security Code with a 4 digit number of your choice. The Security Code cannot be displayed or referenced. Make a note of the Security Code and treasure it up.

Deleting a Registered Bluetooth device
You can delete a registered Bluetooth device.
Adding a voice dialing command
Add a voice tag to the phonebook for voice dialing. You can register up to 35 voice tags.
1 Select Bluetooth device deletion mode
Select MENU > Device Delete. For how to select Function Control item, refer to <Function Control> (page 6).

The following control methods of the function for this unit may be different from the Instruction manual; therefore, refer to the following supplemental instruction. <Dialing by Using the Quick Dialing Function> 1. Troubleshooting Guide
Some functions of this unit may be disabled by some settings made on this unit. What might seem to be a malfunction in your unit may just be the result of slight misoperation or miswiring. Before calling service, first check the following table for possible problems.
Cannot set up the subwoofer. No output from the subwoofer. Cannot set up the subwoofer position of Manual position setting. <Subwoofer output> of <Basic Operation> (page 4) is not set to On. The Dual zone function is enabled. <Audio Setup> (page 28) Cannot set up the subwoofer phase. The Low Pass Filter is set to Through. <XOver setting> (page 30) Cannot select the output destination of the subsource in the Dual zone. Cannot adjust the volume of the rear speakers. The Dual zone function is disabled. <Audio Setup> (page 28) Cannot register a security code. Cannot set up Display. <Demonstration mode Setting> (page 27) is not turned off.
General
The Touch Sensor Tone does not sound. The preout jack is being used. The Touch Sensor Tone cannot be output from the preout jack.
Tuner source
Radio reception is poor. The car antenna is not extended. Pull the antenna out all the way.
Disc source
The specified disc does not play, but another one plays instead. The specified CD is quite dirty. Clean the CD, referring to the CD cleaning of the section on <Handling CDs> (page 3). The disc is loaded in a different slot from that specified. Eject the disc magazine and check the number for the specified disc. The disc is severely scratched. Try another disc instead.
The Bluetooth audio player cannot be registered (pairing). The PIN code is fixed. When a PIN code is specified in the Instruction Manual for Bluetooth Audio Player, register it with reference to <Registering PIN Code> (page 36) to register the Bluetooth audio player. If no PIN code is specified in the Instruction Manual, try 0000. The sound from the Bluetooth audio player is discontinuous. The distance between this unit and audio player is too far. Move the audio player nearer to this unit. Another Bluetooth device is affecting the Bluetooth communication. Turn off another Bluetooth device. Move another Bluetooth device away from this unit. Another Bluetooth device or profile is used for communication. The downloading of the Phone book or the SMS disconnects the sound.

No Music Data/Error 15: The connected USB device contains no playable audio file. Media was played that does not have data recorded that the unit can play. USB ERROR: Some trouble may have occurred to the connected USB device. Remove the USB device, then cycle the power switch to ON. If the same display is repeated, use another USB device. Connection to the iPod has failed. Remove the USB device and then reconnect it. Confirm that the software for the iPod is the latest version. Too Long: The word or utterance is too long to be recognized.
No Phonebook: Data is not contained in the phone book. No Message: No Record: Memory Full: No short message in In Box. The voice tag is not registered in the phonebook. The number of voice tags reaches the maximum number to be registered in the phonebook.
iPod Error:
Favorite: No Memory: The procedure is not registered to Favorite Preset Memory No Access: The procedure preset with Favorite Control cannot be available. The preset content may not be recalled depending on the selected source or mode. No call.
USB REMOVE (Blink): The Remove mode has been selected for the USB device/iPod. You can remove the USB device/iPod safely. No Voice: NO Number: No Data: The calling party does not notify a caller ID. There is no phone number data. There is no outgoing call list. There is no incoming call list. There is no missed call list. There is no phone book list. The cell-phone has not been registered (pairing).
HD Memory Full: The tag memory of HD Radio is FULL. iPod Memory Full: The iPod memory is FULL. No Tag Function: iPod which does not support the tag memory is connected. N/A Channels: No receivable channel and category.
Cleaning the Unit
If the faceplate of this unit is stained, wipe it with a dry soft cloth such as a silicon cloth. If the faceplate is stained badly, wipe the stain off with a cloth moistened with neutral cleaner, then wipe it again with a clean soft dry cloth.
Applying spray cleaner directly to the unit may affect its mechanical parts. Wiping the faceplate with a hard cloth or using a volatile liquid such as thinner or alcohol may scratch the surface or erases characters.
Cleaning the Faceplate Terminals
If the terminals on the unit or faceplate get dirty, wipe them with a clean soft dry cloth. Reset button We recommend the use of <Activating Security Code> (page 39) to prevent theft. The characters conforming to ISO 8859-1 character set can be displayed. The RDS feature wont work where the service is not supported by any broadcasting station. There are places in this manual where lit indicators are described; however, the only time an indicator will light is in the following settings. When Indicator is selected as mentioned in <Text Display Switching> (page 18). The illustrations of the display and the panel appearing in this manual are examples used to explain more clearly how the controls are used. Therefore, what appears on the display in the illustrations may differ from what appears on the display on the actual equipment, and some of the illustrations on the display may be inapplicable.

This unit is initially set on the Demonstration mode. When using this unit for the first time, cancel the <Demonstration mode Setting> (page 51).

What is the Multi-function Key System?
This unit is equipped with the Multi-function Key System that enables the operation of multiple functions with one button. For example, you can enter the Display Control Mode or turn ON/OFF the Random Play by pressing the [3] button during CD play.

The category information of each song is the data registered in Media Manager when ACDrive disc is being generated. You can cancel the announcement made when the mode is changed by <Voice Index> (page 50). You can select the advancement of the Play mode information by [AM] and [FM] knob.

Scrolling the displayed CD text, Audio file text, or MD title. Push the Control knob toward [FM] for at least 2 seconds.
Letter Seek
You can search for the song, you want to play, by selecting the initial of Genre name, Artist name, or Album name.

You cannot Channel search until the category information is acquired.

G-Analyzer Horsepower Gauge setup
Enter vehicle class and weight to calculate horsepower.
1 Select the G-Analyzer Horsepower Gauge
setup mode Push the Control knob towards [FM] or [AM]. Select the "Hp Gauge Setup" display.
2 Enter G-Analyzer Horsepower Gauge setup
mode Press the Control knob for at least 1 second. "Class Select" is displayed.
3 Select vehicle class
Push the Control knob towards [4] or []. Each time you push the knob, the vehicle class alternates between the modes shown in the table below. Display "Mid Size" "Full Size" "SUV" "Van/ Mini-Van" "Pickup Truck" "Sporty" "Compact"
4 Enter Weight Input mode
Press the Control knob. "Weight Input" is displayed.
5 Select the weight numbers
The weight input range is between 1000-9999 lbs.
6 Select the digits to enter
7 Repeat steps 5 and 6, and complete the
weight input.
8 Exit G-Analyzer Horsepower Gauge setup
mode Press the [NEXT] button.
G-Analyzer Horsepower Analysis
This measures the horsepower and displays graph and max power. It automatically saves the highest record.
5 To display the maximum power in the
section: Push the Control knob towards [4] or []. Each time you push the Control knob, the maximum power in the section is displayed.
Do not use G-Analyzer Horsepower Analysis on the Public roads. Do not use this product in any way that prevents you from driving safely. Follow all driving laws and use common sense when using this product.
6 Exit G-Analyzer Horsepower Analysis mode
Press the [NEXT] button.
Like your vehicles speedometer, G-Analyzer is no more than a measuring function. The HP or G value measured by this unit may not be completely accurate due to its simplified method of measurement. The G-Analyzer is only for reference and should not be used to confirm the horsepower specifications of your vehicle. Measuring after starting the car lowers the accuracy. The record will not be renewed if the measurement is discontinued. The graphs scale adjusts automatically to the horsepower value. The value of max power and record can be reset by <G-Analyzer Reset> (page 42).
Before alternating G-Analyzer Horsepower Analysis, you are required to setup <G-Analyzer Horsepower Gauge setup> (page 43).
1 Select the G-Analyzer Horsepower Analysis
mode Push the Control knob towards [FM] or [AM]. Select the "Horsepower" display.
2 Enter G-Analyzer Horsepower Analysis
mode Press the Control knob for at least 1 second. "Stop" is displayed. Previous max power and record are displayed.
3 Begin measurement
Press the Control knob. "Ready" is displayed.
G-Graphic Select
Select the picture to display on G-Graphic. Display "G-Graph : Default" "G-Graph : Custom" Setting Display default picture. Display downloaded picture.
4 Start the car
"Measure" is displayed. After 15 seconds of measurement, the result is displayed. Display the result The graph shows the variation in horsepower between 0.1 to 15.0 seconds. The maximum power is displayed in red and the markings provided at intervals of 5 seconds are displayed in blue.
Pressing the Control knob also begins the measurement. To prevent danger, push the control knob before starting the car.
G-Graphic pictures cannot be selected unless downloaded beforehand. To download G-Graphic pictures, refer to <Picture downloading> (page 49)
G-Analyzer Stop Watch
The control of stop watch can be started by GAnalyzer function.
Other than Standby mode/ When the Dual Zone System is ON
Dual Zone System Setting
Setting the Front channel and Rear channel sound in the Dual Zone System.
Do not use G-Analyzer stop watch on the Public roads.
1 Select G-Analyzer Stop Watch mode
Push the Control knob towards [FM] or [AM]. Select the "Stop Watch" display.
Display "Zone 2 : Rear" "Zone 2 : Front"
2 Enter G-Analyzer Stop Watch mode
Setting Sub source (Auxiliary input source) is to be rear channel. Sub source (Auxiliary input source) is to be front channel.
3 Enter Counter Ready mode
4 Start Count
When G in the vertical direction is detected during the travel, the count automatically starts. "Running" is displayed.
You can also start the counter by pressing the Control knob.
5 Stop Count
Press the Control knob. "Stop" is displayed.
The control will start again when you accelerate or press the Control knob. Do the operation after step3.
CD Read Setting
When there is a problem with playing a CD with special format, this setting plays the CD by force. Display "CD Read : 1" "CD Read : 2" Setting Play CD and Audio file. Play CD by force.
6 Exit Menu mode
When operation stops for 10 seconds, the name at that time is registered, and the Auxiliary input display setting mode closes. The Auxiliary Input Display can be set only when the built-in auxiliary input or the auxiliary input of optional KCA-S210A is used.
Setting "CD Read : 2" cannot play Audio file. Some music CDs may not play even in the "CD Read : 2" mode.
8 Exit the downloading mode
Do not operate this unit,while "Downloading" is displayed to prevent data from being damaged. The number of files that can be downloaded. - Downloaded movie: 1 file - Wallpaper: 1 file - G-Graphic: 1 file When you download a new movie, it is overwritten to the currently downloaded movie. Also, when a new wallpaper is downloaded, it is overwritten to the currently downloaded wallpaper. There is no way to delete the downloaded pictures. The downloaded pictures can be used for display. <Graphic part Display Switching> (page 15) <Wallpaper selecting> (page 16) <G-Graphic Select> (page 44) When you cannot download the pictures to this unit, there may be a problem with the CD-R/CD-RW write method. Refer to the URL http://www.kenwood.net-disp.com, and rewrite the CD-R/CD-RW.
Picture downloading
Downloading movies, wallpapers and G-Graphic. You can use downloaded pictures for the display of this unit.
1 Insert a CD-R/CD-RW.
Insert a CD-R/CD-RW containing files to be downloaded into this unit. Refer to <Playing CD & Audio file> (page 28) for details. Our URL http://www.kenwood.net-disp.com describes how to make CD-R/CD-RW.

Push the Control knob towards [FM] or [AM]. Select the "DISP Data DL" display.
5 Enter the downloading mode
Press the Control knob for at least 1 second. "File Check!!" is displayed.
6 Select files to be downloaded
PICTURE ENGINE Picture Engine is an application software distributed from Kenwood's official website. Utilizing this software, you can create an original still image file. As for the download of application, please browse "http://www. kenwood.net-disp.com/" for directions.
7 Start downloading
Press the Control knob for at least 2 seconds. "Downloading" is displayed. When the downloading finishes, "Finished Download" is displayed.
Picture downloading may take as long as 10 minutes.

Cancelling Downloading Press the [MENU] button.
Function of the KDC-X790 Function of ACDrive disc Other than Standby mode
General
The power does not turn ON. The fuse has blown. After checking for short circuits in the wires, replace the fuse with one with the same rating. Theres a source you cant switch. Theres no media inserted. Set the media you want to listen to. If theres no media in this unit, you cant switch to each source. The Disc changer isnt connected. Connect the Disc changer. If the Disc changer isnt connected to its input terminal, You cant switch to an external disc source. The memory is erased when the ignition is turned OFF. The ignition and battery wire are incorrectly connected. Connect the wire correctly, referring to the section on <Connecting Wires to Terminals>. Theres no loudness effect. Youre using Subwoofer preout. Loudness has no effect in Subwoofer preout. The TEL mute function does not work. The TEL mute wire is not connected properly. Connect the wire correctly, referring to the section on <Connecting Wires to Terminals>. The TEL mute function turns ON even though the TEL mute wire is not connected. The TEL mute wire is touching a metal part of the car. Pull the TEL mute wire away from the metal part of the car.
Tuner source
Disc source
Radio reception is poor. The car antenna is not extended. Pull the antenna out all the way. The antenna control wire is not connected. Connect the wire correctly, referring to the section on <Connecting Wires to Terminals>. The desired frequency cant be entered with the Direct Access Tuning. A station that cant be received is being entered. Enter a station that can be received. Youre trying to enter a frequency with a 0.01 MHz unit. What can be designated in the FM band is to 0.1 MHz. It isnt the set Traffic information sound volume. The set sound volume is less than the tuner sound volume. If the tuner sound volume is louder than the set sound volume,the tuner sound volume is used.
"AUX EXT" is displayed without achieving External disc control mode. Unsupported disc changer is connected. Use the disc changer mentioned in the <About CD players/disc changers connected to this unit> (page 4) of the section on <Safety precautions>. The specified disc does not play, but another one plays instead. The specified CD is quite dirty. Clean the CD. The disc is loaded in a different slot from that specified. Eject the disc magazine and check the number for the specified disc. The disc is severely scratched. Try another disc instead. A CD ejects as soon as it is loaded. The CD is quite dirty. Clean the CD, referring to the CD cleaning of the section on <About CDs> (page 7). Cant remove disc. The cause is that more than 10 minutes has elapsed since the vehicle ACC switch was turned OFF. The disc can only be removed within 10 minutes of the ACC switch being turned OFF. If more than 10 minutes has elapsed, turn the ACC switch ON again and press the Eject button. The disc wont insert. Theres already another disc inserted. Press the [0] button and remove the disc. Direct Search cant be done. Another function is ON. Turn Random Play or other functions OFF. Track Search cant be done. For the discs/folders first or last song. For each disc/folder, Track Search cant be done in the backward direction for the first song or in the forward direction for the last song.
