| I researched quite a bit before I purchased my camera in January of 2005. This camera has served me exceptionally well. Easy to use features. Makes sounds like a regular camera. Value priced. Software limited but does not take away from this being a really good camera. | |

Installing the software first
IMPORTANT: Install the software from the Kodak EasyShare software CD before connecting the camera (or dock) to the computer. Otherwise, the software may load incorrectly. See Install the software, page 31 or the Start Here! guide.
Charging the battery
Charge the Li-Ion rechargeable battery before first use.
Red = charging Green = fully charged

1 Insert the battery into the charger. 2 Insert the plug that matches your electrical outlet. 3 Plug the charger into the outlet. 4 Remove the battery and unplug the charger when the light turns green. Charging takes approximately 3 hours. For expected battery life, see page 3. You can also charge the battery using an optional Kodak EasyShare printer dock or camera dock. Purchase these and other accessories at a dealer of Kodak products or visit www.kodak.com/go/accessories.
Loading the battery
CAUTION: Use only a Kodak EasyShare Li-Ion rechargeable battery (KLIC-5000) and orient it as shown. NOTE: When you remove the battery, make sure the camera is turned off. 1 Open the battery door. 2 Orient the battery as shown, and push it in. 3 Close the battery door. 4 To remove, slide the release tab and pull the battery out.

Use only a Kodak EasyShare Li-Ion rechargeable battery (KLIC-5000). Not all manufacturers 3.7V Li-Ion rechargeable batteries are compatible with the camera. Damage caused by unauthorized accessories is not covered under warranty.
Landscape Distant subjects. Flash does not fire unless you turn it on. Fixed focus is set to infinity. Snow Beach Party SelfPortrait Manner/ Museum Bright snow scenes. Exposure compensation is set to +1.0 EV to prevent a washed-out, overexposed image. Bright beach scenes. Exposure compensation is set to +1.0 EV to prevent a washed-out, overexposed image. Indoor pictures of people. Prevents red eye. Close-up of yourself. Assures proper focus and prevents red eye. Quiet occasions, like a wedding or lecture. Flash and sound are disabled.
Fireworks Fireworks. Place the camera on a flat, steady surface or use a tripod. Backlight Flower Children Subjects that are in shadow or "backlit" (when the sun is behind the subject). Close-ups of flowers or other small subjects in bright light. Action pictures of children in bright light.
Using the camera screen as a viewfinder
1 Frame your subject in the camera screen. For more about auto-focus framing marks, see page 11. 2 Press the Shutter button halfway and hold to set the exposure and focus. When the framing marks change color, press the Shutter button completely down to take the picture. 3 To turn off the camera screen, press the OK button.

Using the auto-focus framing marks
When using the camera screen as a viewfinder, framing marks indicate the area that the camera is focusing on. For the best possible pictures, the camera attempts to focus on foreground subjects, even if the subjects are not centered in the scene. NOTE: This procedure does not apply to videos. 1 Press the Shutter button halfway and hold. When the framing marks turn red, focus is accomplished.

2 Press the Shutter button completely down to take the picture. 3 If the camera is not focusing on the desired subject (or if the framing marks disappear and the Ready light blinks orange), release your finger, recompose the scene, and go to Step 1. NOTE: Framing marks appear only when the camera screen is on. Framing marks do not appear in Landscape mode.
Reviewing the picture or video just taken
When you take a picture or video, it is displayed on the camera screen for approximately 5 seconds. While it is displayed, you can:
Delete OK
Review: If you take no action, the picture/video is saved. Play (video): Press the OK button to play the video. Press to adjust the volume. Share: Press the Share button to tag a picture/video for email or as a Favorite, or to tag a picture for print (see page 32).
Delete: Press the Delete button while the picture/video and are displayed. NOTE: Only the final picture of a burst series (see page 16) is displayed. If you select Delete, all pictures in the burst series are deleted. To delete selectively, do so in Review (see page 25).
Using optical zoom
Use optical zoom to get up to 2.8X closer to your subject. You can change optical zoom before (but not during) video recording. 1 Use the viewfinder or camera screen to frame your subject. 2 Press the zoom lever toward Telephoto (T) to zoom in. Press it toward Wide Angle (W) to zoom out. If the camera screen is turned on, the zoom indicator shows when you are in optical or digital zoom. 3 Take a picture or video as usual.

Using advanced digital zoom
Use digital zoom in any still mode to get additional magnification beyond optical zoom. Available settings are from 2.8X to 10X. You must turn on the camera screen to use digital zoom. 1 Press the OK button to turn on the camera screen. 2 Press the Telephoto (T) button to the optical zoom limit. Release the button, then press it again. For more digital zoom, release and press again. The camera screen displays the zoomed image and the zoom indicator. IMPORTANT: You may notice a decrease in printed image quality when using digital zoom. The blue slider on the zoom indicator pauses, then turns red when the picture quality reaches the limit for an acceptable 4 x 6 in. (10 x 15 cm) print. 3 Take a picture as usual. NOTE: You cannot use digital zoom for video recording.
Using the flash
Use the flash when you take pictures at night, indoors, or outdoors in heavy shadows.

Turning on the flash
Press the button to scroll through the flash options. The active flash icon appears in the camera screen status area.
Flash Mode Auto Off Fill
Flash Fires When the lighting conditions require it. Never Every time you take a picture, regardless of the lighting conditions. Use when the subject is in shadow or is "backlit" (when the sun is behind the subject). In low light, hold the camera steady or use a tripod.
Red-eye Once, so the subjects eyes become accustomed to the flash, then fires again when the picture is taken. (If the lighting conditions require flash but do not require Red-eye reduction, the flash may fire only once.)

NOTE: * When you change to Red-eye in these modes, it remains until you change it. All other flash settings return to the default when you exit the mode or turn off the camera.
Changing picture-taking settings
You can change settings to get the best results from your camera. 1 Press the Menu button. (Some settings are unavailable in some modes.) 2 Press to highlight the setting you wish to change, then press the OK button. 3 Choose an option, then press the OK button. 4 Press the Menu button to exit.
Setting Self-Timer Create a 10-second delay before the picture or video is taken. Exposure Compensation Choose how much light enters the camera. This setting remains until you change modes or turn off the camera. Icon Options (unavailable as noted) On or Off For details, see page 22. Unavailable in Burst mode. If pictures are too light, decrease the value. If pictures are too dark, increase the value.
NOTE: When the camera screen is on, you can also press
then to adjust exposure compensation. Press again.
Exposure Compensation returns to zero if Long Time Exposure is set.
On or Off
Burst Take up to 4 pictures in quick succession (approximately 2.4 fps). This setting remains until you change to Video mode or turn off the camera.
1 Press the Shutter button halfway and
hold to set the auto-focus, exposure, white balance, and orientation for all the pictures in the sequence.
2 Press the Shutter button the rest of the
way down and hold it to take the pictures. Stops taking pictures when the Shutter button is released, when 4 pictures are taken, or when storage space is full. Flash, Self-Timer, and Long Time Exposure are disabled in Burst. Unavailable in Video mode.
Setting Picture Quality Choose a picture resolution. This setting remains until you change it. Icon Options (unavailable as noted) Best (5 MP) for printing up to 20 x 30 in. (50 x 76 cm). Best (3:2) (4.4 MP) ideal for printing 4 x 6 in. (10 x 15 cm) prints without cropping. Also for printing up to 20 x 30 in. (50 x 76 cm); some cropping may result. Better (3.1 MP) for printing up to 8 x 10 in. (20 x 25 cm). Good (1.7 MP) for emailing, Internet, or screen display. Best (640 x 480) video plays in a 640 x 480 pixel window. Good (320 x 240) video plays in a 320 x 240 pixel window. Auto (default)automatically corrects white balance. Ideal for general picture-taking. Daylightfor pictures in natural lighting. Tungstencorrects the orange cast of household light bulbs. Ideal for indoor pictures under tungsten or halogen lighting without flash. Fluorescentcorrects the green cast of fluorescent lighting. Ideal for indoor pictures under fluorescent lighting without flash. Unavailable in Video and Scene modes (exceptionavailable in Landscape). Auto (default), 80, 100, 200, 400, 800 (Good)* Choose a lower ISO setting in brightly lit scenes; use a higher ISO setting in low-light scenes. * At ISO 800, picture quality is forced to Good.
5 Compose the scene. Then press the Shutter button halfway and hold to set the exposure and focus, then press completely down. Move so that you are in the scene. The Self-Timer light on the front of the camera blinks slowly for 8 seconds (then quickly for 2 seconds) before the picture is taken. The Ready light blinks for 10 seconds, then turns off during capture. The Self-Timer turns off after you take the picture or if you change modes.
Putting yourself in the video
1 Place the camera on a flat surface or tripod. 2 Rotate the jog dial to highlight Video press the Menu button. 3 Highlight Self-Timer 4 Press and press the jog dial. Then
, then press the OK button.
to highlight On, then press the OK button.
5 Compose the scene, then press the Shutter button completely down. Move so that you are in the scene. NOTE: The default video length is Continuous. The video will stop when you press the Shutter button or when no storage space remains. To change the video length, see Video Length, page 19. To turn off the Self-Timer camera sounds, see page 20. The Self-Timer turns off after you take the video or if you change modes.
Pre-tagging for album names
Use the Set Album (Still or Video) feature to pre-select album names before you take pictures or videos. Then, all the pictures or videos you take are tagged with those album names.
Firston your computer
Use Kodak EasyShare software (V 3.0 or higher) to create album names on your computer. Then copy up to 32 album names to the album name list on your camera the next time you connect the camera to the computer. See Kodak EasyShare software Help for details.
Secondon your camera
1 In any mode, press the Menu button. 2 Press to highlight Set Album , then press the OK button.
3 Press to highlight an album name, then press the OK button. Repeat to select more than one album name. Selected albums are noted with a check mark. 4 To remove a selection, highlight an album name then press the OK button. To remove all album selections, select Clear All. 5 Highlight Exit, then press the OK button. Your selections are saved. If you turn on the camera screen, your album selection is displayed on the screen. A plus (+) after the album name means more than one album is selected. 6 Press the Menu button to exit.
Thirdtransfer to your computer
When you transfer the tagged pictures or videos to your computer, Kodak EasyShare software opens and categorizes your pictures and videos in the appropriate album. See the Kodak EasyShare software Help for details.
Reviewing pictures and videos
Press the Review button to view and work with your pictures and videos. To save battery power, purchase a 5-volt AC adapter or place your camera in the optional Kodak EasyShare camera dock or printer dock. (Visit www.kodak.com/go/ls753accessories.)
In Review mode, press the Menu button for optional review settings.

Magnifying pictures
1 Press the Review button, then locate a picture. 2 Repeatedly press the Zoom lever to Telephoto (T) to increase the magnification up to 8X or to Wide (W) to decrease it.

3 To exit Review mode, press the Review button.
Protecting pictures and videos from deletion
1 Press the Review button, then locate the picture or video. 2 Press the Menu button. 3 Press to highlight Protect , then press the OK button. The picture or video is protected and cannot be deleted. The Protect icon appears with the protected picture or video. 4 To remove protection, press the OK button again. 5 Press the Menu button to exit. CAUTION: Formatting internal memory or SD/MMC card deletes all (including protected) pictures, videos. (Formatting internal memory also erases email addresses, album names, and favorites. To restore them, see Kodak EasyShare software Help.)
Tagging pictures and videos for albums
Use the Album feature in Review mode to tag the pictures and videos in your camera with album names.
Use Kodak EasyShare software (V 3.0 or higher) to create album names on your computer, then copy up to 32 album names to the cameras internal memory. See Kodak EasyShare software Help for details.
1 Press the Review button, then locate the picture or video. 2 Press the Menu button. 3 Press 4 Press to highlight Album , then press the OK button.

To add other pictures to the same album, press to scroll through the pictures. When the picture you want appears, press the OK button. To add the pictures to more than one album, repeat step 4 for each album. The album name appears with the picture. A plus (+) after the album name means the picture was added to more than one album. When you transfer the tagged pictures and videos to your computer, Kodak EasyShare software opens and categorizes your pictures and videos in the appropriate album folder. See Kodak EasyShare software Help for details.
Running a slide show
Use the Slide Show to display your pictures and videos on the camera screen. To run a slide show on a television or on any external device, see page 28. To save battery power, use an optional Kodak 5-volt AC adapter. (Visit www.kodak.com/go/ls753accessories.)
Starting the slide show
1 Press the Review button, then press the Menu button.

3 Press to highlight Begin Show, then press the OK button. Each picture and video is displayed once, in the order in which you took them. To cancel the Slide Show, press the OK button.
Changing the slide show display interval
The default interval setting displays each picture for 5 seconds. You can increase the display interval up to 60 seconds. 1 On the Slide Show menu, press then press the OK button. 2 Select a display interval. Running a continuous slide show loop

Displaying pictures and videos on a television
You can display pictures and videos on a television, computer monitor, or any device equipped with a video input. (Image quality on a television screen may not be as good as on a computer monitor or when printed.) NOTE: Ensure that the Video Out setting (NTSC or PAL) is correct (page 20). The slide show stops if you connect or disconnect the cable while the slide show is running. 1 Connect the audio/video cable (included) from the camera video-out port to the television video-in port (yellow) and audio-in port (white). See your television users guide for details. 2 Review pictures and videos on the television.
Copying pictures and videos
You can copy pictures and videos from a card to internal memory or from internal memory to a card. Before you copy, make sure that:
A card is inserted in the camera. The cameras picture storage location is set to the location from which you are copying (see Image Storage, page 19).
Copy pictures or videos: 1 Press the Review button, then press the Menu button. 2 Press 3 Press to highlight Copy , then press the OK button.
to highlight an option: PICTURE or VIDEOcopies the current picture or video. EXITreturns to the Review menu. ALLcopies all pictures and videos from your selected storage location to the other location.
4 Press the OK button. NOTE:
Pictures and videos are copied, not moved. To remove pictures and videos from the original location after they are copied, delete them (see page 25). Tags that you applied for print, email, and Favorites are not copied. Protection settings are not copied. To apply protection to a picture or video, see page 26.

Install the software
CAUTION: Install Kodak EasyShare software before connecting the camera or optional dock to the computer. Failure to do so may cause the software to load incorrectly. 1 Close all software applications that are open on your computer (including anti-virus software). 2 Place the Kodak EasyShare software CD into the CD-ROM drive. 3 Load the software:
Windows OS-based computerif the install window does not appear,
choose Run from the Start menu and type d:\setup.exe where d is the drive letter that contains the CD. Mac OS Xdouble click the CD icon on the desktop, then click the Install icon. 4 Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software. Windows OS-based computerselect Complete to automatically install all applications. Select Custom to choose the applications you wish to install. Mac OS Xfollow the on-screen instructions. NOTE: When prompted, take a few minutes to electronically register your camera and software. This lets you receive information regarding software updates and registers some of the products included with the camera. You must be connected to your Internet service provider to register electronically. To register later, see www.kodak.com/go/register. 5 Restart the computer. Turn the anti-virus software back on (see the anti-virus software manual for details). For information on the software applications included on the Kodak EasyShare software CD, click the Help button in the Kodak EasyShare software.
Secondtag pictures/videos on your camera
1 Press the Share button. Press 2 Press 3 Press to highlight Email to locate a picture/video. , then press the OK button.

To tag other pictures/videos with the same address, press to scroll through them. When the picture/video you want is displayed, press the OK button. To send the pictures/videos to more than one address, repeat step 3 for each address. Selected addresses are checked. 4 To remove a selection, highlight a checked address, then press the OK button. To remove all email selections, highlight Clear All. 5 Press to highlight Exit, then press the OK button. The email icon appears in the status area. 6 Press the Share button to exit the menu.

When you transfer the tagged pictures/videos to your computer, the email screen opens and lets you send them to the addresses you specified. For details, click the Help button in the Kodak EasyShare software.
Tagging pictures as favorites
You can store your favorite pictures in the Favorites section of your cameras internal memory, then share them with friends and family. Favorites are loaded into your camera after you transfer pictures to your computer. Favorites are approximately 1 MP, good for 4 x 6 in. (10 x 15 cm) prints. Share your favorite pictures in 4 easy steps:
1. Take pictures
to locate a picture. 2. Tag pictures 1 Press the Share button. Press as favorites 2 Press to highlight Favorite , then press the OK button. The Favorite icon appears in the status area. To remove the tag, press the OK button again. Press the Share button to exit.

Transfer that was packaged with your camera (see page 31). pictures to your computer 2 Connect the camera to the computer using the USB cable (see page 37) or an EasyShare dock. The first time you transfer pictures, a software wizard prompts you to carefully review and make some choices. Then, your pictures are transferred to the computer. Favorites are loaded to the Favorites section of your cameras internal memory.
4. View favorites on your camera
1 Turn the jog dial to Favorites. Press the jog dial. 2 Press to scroll through favorites.
To exit favorites, turn the jog dial to any other mode and press. To view the pictures or videos on a card or in non-favorite internal memory, press the Review button (see page 24).
NOTE: The camera holds a limited number of favorites. Use Camera Favorites in the Kodak EasyShare software to customize the size of your camera Favorites section. For more information, click the Help button in the software.

NOTE: Favorites are cropped slightly to the 3:2 format. To prevent cropping, take pictures with the Picture Quality set to Best (3:2) (see page 17).
Removing all favorites from your camera
1 In Favorites mode, press the Menu button. 2 Highlight , then press the OK button. All pictures stored in the Favorites section of internal memory are removed. Favorites are restored to your camera the next time you transfer pictures to the computer. 3 Press the Menu button to exit the menu.
Preventing favorites from transferring to the camera
1 Open the Kodak EasyShare software. Click the Favorites tab. 2 Delete the pictures that you no longer want to keep in the Favorites section of the cameras internal memory. 3 Connect the camera to the computer using the USB cable (see page 37) or an EasyShare dock. EasyShare software removes the favorites on your camera.
Printing and emailing favorites
You can tag your favorites for print and email the same way you tag the full-size pictures stored in your camera. 1 In Favorites mode, locate a picture and press the Share button. 2 Highlight Print or Email , then press the OK button. NOTE: Favorites are good for up to a 4 x 6 in. (10 x 15 cm) print.
Transferring and printing pictures
CAUTION: Install Kodak EasyShare software before connecting the camera or optional dock to the computer. Failure to do so may cause the software to load incorrectly.
