| When I first switched to digital back in 2001 I was overwhelmed with the frustration of shutter-lag. Yes, the images were available instantly. I just returned from New Zealand (beautiful country!) and the Kodak P880 did a superb job. | |

| I wish I could rate this camera a 4.5. For the price I paid (which was about $400), this camera ROCKS! If the aforementioned cons were fixed. Considering the price of all the 8+ MPixel SLRs this camera is ready to challenge at 1/10 the cost. Just add a 1Gb SD card. | |

AUTO Portrait
General picture-takingoffers an excellent balance of image quality and ease-of-use. Portrait (default) full-frame portraits of people. Allows the subject to be sharp and the background to be indistinct. For best results, position your subject at least 6 ft (2 m) away and fill the frame with a head and shoulder pose. Use Telephoto to exaggerate background blur. Night Portrait reduces red eye of people in night scenes or low-light conditions. Place camera on a flat, steady surface or use a tripod. Anti-shake Night Portrait minimizes camera shake while capturing both subject and background.
Landscape Landscape (default) distant scenery. Night Landscape distant scenery at night. For both settings, the flash does not fire and auto-focus framing marks (page 7) are not available. Flower Flower (default) sharp pictures at close range. The camera automatically sets the focus distance depending on the zoom position. The close-up distances from the lens are 3.919.7 in. (1050 cm) at Wide angle and 1019.7 in. (2550 cm) at Telephoto. Super Close-up sharp pictures at super close range. The close-up distance from the lens is 213.8 in. (535 cm) at Wide angle. NOTE: Super Close-up is not effective at Telephoto zoom position. Use available light instead of flash, if possible.
Use this mode Scene Program For Point-and-shoot simplicity when taking pictures under 8 special conditions (see page 28). Controlling the exposure compensation, flash compensation (how much light enters the camera), and ISO speed (see page 41). The camera automatically sets the shutter speed and aperture (f-number) based on the scene lighting. Program mode offers the ease of auto shooting with full access to all menu options. Use the Command dial and Set button to select and adjust settings (see page 39). Press the Menu button to change other settings. Controlling the aperture, exposure compensation, flash compensation, and ISO speed (see page 41). Aperture priority mode is primarily used to control depth of field (the range of sharpness). NOTE: The aperture setting may be affected when using optical zoom. Use the Command dial and Set button to select and adjust settings (see page 39). Press the Menu button to change other settings. Controlling the shutter speed, exposure compensation, flash compensation, and ISO speed (see page 41). The camera automatically sets the aperture for proper exposure. Shutter priority mode is primarily used to prevent blur when your subject is moving. To prevent camera shake, use a tripod for slow shutter speeds. Use the Command dial and Set button to select and adjust settings (see page 39). Press the Menu button to change other settings Enjoying the highest level of creative control. You can set the aperture, shutter speed, flash compensation, and ISO speed (see page 41). Exposure compensation acts as an exposure meter, recommending the proper combination of aperture and shutter speed to produce an acceptable exposure. To prevent camera shake, use a tripod for slow shutter speeds. Use the Command dial and Set button to select and adjust settings (see page 39). Press the Menu button to change other settings.

Use when the subject is in shadow or is "backlit" (when the light is behind the subject). In low light, hold the camera steady or use a tripod. Once, so the subjects eyes become accustomed to the flash, then fires again when the picture is taken. If the lighting conditions require flash but do not require Red-eye reduction, the flash may fire only once. Regardless of the shutter speed and right after the shutter fully opens. Only useful when slower shutter speeds are used. For other slow-flash settings, see table on page 53. Never.

PASM and C modes
Settings you change in C modes apply only to pictures taken in those modes. Use Reset Camera (see page 52) to reset PASM to its default setting. Aperturealso known as f-stop or f-number, controls the size of the lens opening, which determines the depth of field. Smaller f-numbers, for example f/2.8, refer to a bigger lens opening. Larger f-numbers, for example f/8, refer to a smaller lens opening.
Aperture Shutter Speed Exposure Compensation Flash Compensation
Larger f-numbers keep the main subject sharp; good for landscapes and well-lit conditions. Smaller f-numbers are good for portraits and low-light conditions. The highest and lowest aperture numbers may be affected by optical zoom.
Shutter Speedcontrols how long the shutter stays open. A shaking hand icon warns of slow shutter speeds. (Use a tripod for slow shutter speeds.) Exposure Compensationlets you manually adjust the exposure ( 2.0 in 1/3 steps); good for controlling backlit or non-standard scenes. If the picture is too light, decrease the setting; if its too dark, increase the setting. Flash Compensationcontrols the flash brightness (1.0 in 1/3 steps). You must be within flash range. Unavailable if flash setting is Off.

Additional care and maintenance
If the camera has been subjected to inclement weather or you suspect water has gotten inside the camera, turn off the camera and remove the batteries and card. Allow all components to air-dry for at least 24 hours before using the camera again. Blow gently on the lens or camera screen to remove dust and dirt. Wipe gently with a soft, lint-free cloth or an untreated lens-cleaning tissue. Do not use cleaning solutions unless designed specifically for camera lenses. Do not allow chemicals, such as suntan lotion, to contact painted surfaces. Service agreements may be available in your country. Contact a dealer of Kodak products for more information. For digital camera disposal or recycling information, contact your local authorities. In the US, visit the Electronics Industry Alliance Web site at www.eiae.org or the Kodak Web site at www.kodak.com/go/p880support. 88
