Please keep these Instructions for subsequent queries and hand them over to third parties when passing on the device! 1. Usage This device is intended for the charging of rechargeable NiCD / NiMH batteries of size AA / AAA for private domestic use. It is not intended: for charging ordinary batteries (not even ordinary rechargeable batteries!), for the charging of rechargeable lithium ion batteries, for use in commercial or industrial areas.
Caution! Never insert ordinary batteries in the device these could overheat and explode! Risk of injury!

3. Important safety instructions! Never leave the device charging without supervision. Rechargeable batteries get hot when nearing full charge. Overcharged or defective rechargeable batteries can overheat and explode. Do not touch hot rechargeable batteries! It is better to disconnect the device from the power supply and allow the rechargeable batteries to cool down before removing them. Do not expose the device to additional heat sources such as sun radiation or heating. In this way you prevent premature overheating of the rechargeable batteries. If you charge several rechargeable batteries simultaneously: always insert only identical rechargeable batteries, i.e. the same type, the same charge condition, the same size and the same capacity. In this way you prevent that individual rechargeable batteries are already fully charged and get hot while others are still being charged. Use the mains charging adapter only in dry rooms, never in moist areas, where there is a danger of electric shock. Do not continue using the mains charging adapter under any circumstances if it fails to work or is damaged. The mains charging adapter cannot be repaired have it replaced by the service or specialist dealer. Never open the housing of the mains charging adapter or the rechargeable battery quick charger, it does not contain any control elements whatsoever. Caution risk of accidents! Do not allow children and frail persons to handle rechargeable batteries and the quick battery charger without supervision since they might not always be able to correctly judge possible hazards. Rechargeable batteries pose considerable dangers to children if they put rechargeable batteries in their mouth (toxic heavy metals) or short-circuit these during playing! Only charge rechargeable battery types marked with NiCD or NiMH. Never charge any other types, especially never ordinary batteries not even if it concerns ordinary so-called rechargeable batteries. These require an entirely different charging technology. If such are inserted in NiCD/NiMH chargers, such cells could overheat and explode. 4. Inserting rechargeable batteries Rechargeable batteries must always be recharged in pairs individual rechargeable batteries cannot be charged. If you wish to charge two rechargeable batteries, place them in the right charging shaft. If you wish to charge four rechargeable batteries, insert two rechargeable batteries in the left and two rechargeable batteries in the right charging shaft. Ensure that the rechargeable batteries are inserted correctly, i.e. that the +/- marking in the charging shafts corresponds with that on the rechargeable batteries (polarity). Otherwise the charging process cannot start. Always insert only identical rechargeable batteries, i.e. the same type, the same charge condition, the same size and the same capacity. In this way you prevent that individual rechargeable batteries are already fully charged and get hot while others are still being charged. 5. Charging If you have correctly inserted two or four rechargeable batteries as described on the previous page close the lid of the device. insert the device plug of the mains charging adapter in the charging jack on the side of the device and then the mains charging adapter in the socket.

The charging process starts now. A red LED pilot lamp is illuminated on each charging shaft holding a rechargeable battery, continuously, for as long as the rechargeable battery is being charged, slowly flashing, when the charging process has been completed, not, if the rechargeable battery has not been inserted correctly, rapidly flashing, if the rechargeable battery cannot be charged.
6. Charging with the storage boxes For transport or storage of the loose rechargeable batteries, two storage boxes are supplied in which the rechargeable batteries can also be charged immediately. Insert the four identical rechargeable batteries in the storage box so that the +/- marking in the individual compartments corresponds to that of the rechargeable batteries (polarity) otherwise the charging process cannot start. Slide the filled storage box with the contacts first in the shaft at the bottom of the device until it engages audibly. Insert the device plug from the mains charging adapter in the charging jack on the side of the device and Then the mains charging adapter in the socket The charging process starts now. If the rechargeable batteries have been inserted correctly the green LED above the shaft will be illuminated - continuously, for as long as the rechargeable batteries are being charged, - flashing, when the charging process has been completed. To remove the storage box, press the red lever and pull out the storage box.
Note: Should you forget to remove the storage box immediately after completion of the charging process, an auto-stop function prevents that the rechargeable batteries will be overcharged. However, remember that the so-called memory effect can set in when continuously charging rechargeable batteries this means that rechargeable batteries will slowly lose capacity if they are more charged than discharged. This effect is particularly known with rechargeable NiCD batteries. 7. Charging with the motor vehicle cable Instead of the mains charging adapter, you can also use the 12V on-board voltage system of a motor vehicle or sports boat to supply the device with electric power. Having correctly inserted the rechargeable batteries as described on the preceding pages: first insert the device plug from the 12V on-board cable in the charging jack on the side of the device, then the cigarette lighter plug in the motor vehicle socket.
This sequence is important since it will prevent a short circuit from occurring should the device plug inadvertently come in contact with the vehicle chassis. For this reason it is imperative to proceed as follows also when ending the charging process: first pull the cigarette lighter plug from the motor vehicle socket before pulling the device plug.
8. Information on typical charging times These times are only approximate reference values: they can deviate considerably depending on the age of the rechargeable battery and residual charge:

The charging times for rechargeable batteries with lower capacity ratings are correspondingly shorter. 9. Cleaning and care First pull the device plug from the charging jack and remove all rechargeable batteries from the device If you wish to clean the mains charging adapter, first disconnect it from the socket.
On no account must device components be immersed in water or other liquids! This could damage the device components with the mains charging adapter there is even a risk of electric shock. Never use detergents or solvents. These can damage the device especially the print and the Perspex lid. Clean all surfaces and cables with a lightly moistened cloth. The contacts do not require cleaning, they are provided with dirt-repellent chrome plating. 10. Storage If you will not use the device for a prolonged period of time: Pull the mains charging adapter from the socket and pull the device plug from the charging socket on the device. Remove all rechargeable batteries from the charging shafts. Pull the storage box from the shaft at the bottom of the device. Store the device, the mains charging adapter and all remaining accessories in a dry place.
Note: If you do not remove the rechargeable batteries from the charging shafts, contact deposits can occur over time depending on the condition of the rechargeable batteries. Moreover, some rechargeable batteries could start leaking with prolonged storage and damage the device. 11.Disposal Before disposing of the device, first remove the rechargeable batteries. They must not be disposed of with the domestic waste: For this reason, return the rechargeable batteries to your dealer or a disposal collection point provided for this purpose. The other device components do not contain any materials subject to any type of special disposal regulations at the time the instructions are compiled (August 2003). Ask your community authority if the legal situation should have changed in the meantime.
