| I purchased this lens for use on my 5D MK11 and my 7D. Sharpness at the short end is good but above 200mm it is poor on both my camera bodies. One a superb lens! Not to noisy and very quick at focusing even at 300mm. It is possible to take photos at 300mm hand held. | |

| Works well for the money. I think the lens is good for the money. I have had to adjust my autofocus by a few + numbers on my Pentax K-7. WYSIWYP - What You See Is What You Paid In past time, I owned a Canon USM Telephoto lens, but I lost it. So I had to look for a Replacement lens. | |

| This Sigma lens is a good entry level telezoom lens. The macro function make a big plus to this product. The picture is sharp. Aperture is acceptable. by far the best telephoto lens for my sony dslr. Sharp pictures however low lighting is problematic. otherwise, this lens cant be beat for the price. | |

Using Perfect Binder PB-502
The machine with the optional Perfect Binder PB-502 installed automatically attaches a copied set with a cover sheet to make a perfect-bound book, applying a dab of glue in the center line of the cover sheet to fix the spine. In the Perfect Binding mode, both simplex and duplex copying are available for the body set, and also the cover sheet can be blank, simplex-printed or duplex-printed, and even trimmed to match with the thickness of the body set to cover. The binding direction can be selected from left and right.
Use only the paste GC-501 for this binder. Handle melted hot paste only with great care. In order to prevent degradation of paste owing to heating, ensure that the machine is turned off when it is not in use. It is recommended that you adjust the time settings for the low power mode and shut-off mode to the main body to suite the usage of the Perfect Binder, since they apply to the binder as well.

Printing from Special Applications
Printing from Adobe PageMaker In order to ensure that imposition (Layout not equal Off in the Layout panel) works correctly, you must instruct PageMaker to generate page independent code. In PageMakers Print dialog, select Options. This opens the Options panel. Check Page Independence.
This will let PageMaker create page independent code suitable for imposition. Printing from Adobe Acrobat In order to ensure that imposition (Layout not equal Off in the Layout panel) works correctly, you must instruct Acrobat to generate page independent code. In Acrobats Print dialog, select Advanced. This opens the Advanced Print Setup dialog. Select PostScript Options. Set Font and Resource Policy to Send for Each Page.
This will let Acrobat create page independent code suitable for imposition.

Printing from Quark XPress In order to ensure that imposition and other driver functions work correctly, you must instruct XPress to use the bizhub PRO 1050 PPD and the correct page size. In the XPress Print dialog, select the Setup panel.
In the Setup panel, select the bizhub PRO 1050 PPD as Printer Description. The paper size will be shown as custom. Select the document size to be output by XPress (if necessary including registration marks) as Paper Size.
This will let XPress output consistent settings suitable for imposition and other driver functions.
Windows Printing 25
Setting features without the plug-in The Advanced dialog shows a number of Printer Features, e.g. finishing options. For most applications, these features are disabled because the printer driver plug-in is running. In this case, use the printer driver plug-in (see next section) to set the desired printing options. Some applications do not support the printer driver plug-in because they provide their own printer driver. Without the plug-in, the Printer Features will be enabled. In this case, open the Advanced dialog and select the desired printing options from Printer Features. To select a print feature, click on the field right of the feature name and select the desired value from the pop-up menu. Note: Some features of the plug-in, like gutter or user authentication can be set only in the plug-in, but not in the Advanced dialog due to restrictions of the PPD format. (The PPD format does not support features with arbitrary string or numeric values.)

Layout
The Layout panel allows you to define how document pages are mapped on printed sheets and to select finishing options. The selections for stapling, punching, and folding will only be available if the corresponding installable options are activated, see section Installable Options. You can set the following attributes: 1. Layout (imposition) defines how document pages are mapped on printed sheets. Off one document page is one printed sheet.
Adhesive Binding document pages are arranged on the sheets to produce center folded booklets sets of 4 pages each. I.e. pages 1-4 are printed on sheet 1, pages 5-8 on sheet 2. After folding, the sheets can be put side by side and glued to form a booklet. Document pages are printed in original size. The sheet size is twice the document page size. Booklet document pages are arranged on the sheets to produce a center folded and saddle stitched booklet. Document pages are printed in original size. The sheet size is twice the document page size. Normally booklet is combined with half folding and center stapling. This implies that the paper in the tray must be short edge fed. Long edge fed paper will not work.
30 Windows Printing
The maximum number of sheets/pages allowed for a booklet with folding depends on the paper weight: 50-91 g/m 92-130 g/m 131-161 g/m 162-209 g/m 210-244 g/m 50 sheets 20 sheets 15 sheets 10 sheets 5 sheets 200 pages 80 pages 60 pages 40 pages 20 pages
If the allowed number of sheets is exceeded, the booklet will not be folded. Note for Macintosh users: Do not use the Booklet option in the Page Setup dialog, but only the one in the printer driver plugin. 2 in document pages are arranged side by side on each sheet. I.e. sheet 1 contains pages 1+2, sheet 2 (or the back page of sheet 1) contains pages 3+4. The sheet size is twice the document page size. Document pages are printed in original size. The sheet size is twice the document page size. 2 Repeat 2 copies of a document page are arranged side by side on each sheet. I.e. sheet 1 contains 2 copies of page 1, sheet 2 (or the back page of sheet 1) contains 2 copies of page 2. The resulting paper pile can be center cut to obtain twice the number of copies. 2 Repeat can be used, e.g. to print A5 documents on A4 paper or Statement documents on Letter paper and double the number of copies. 2 Repeat Reverse Like 2 Repeat, 2 copies of a document page are arranged side by side on each sheet such that the resulting paper pile can be center cut to obtain twice the number of copies. However, the second page is rotated by 180 such that the side to be cut is the same for both pages. The arrangement of the pages is determined by the Binding setting. The binding side (left, right for portrait pages, top, bottom for landscape pages) indicates which side is designated for binding (opposite the cut side). 2. 3. 4. Double Sided (duplex) document pages are rendered for printing on both sides of a sheet. Binding selects the processing side (left, right, top) for several other options. See Layout, Duplex, Staple, Punch. Staple selects the staple mode: Off, 1 staple (left/right at the corner), 2 staples (at the side)
Binding side left or right determines also the staple position. 5. Punch selects the punch mode: Off, 2 holes, 3 holes / 4 holes
The punch side (left, right, top) is determined by Binding. The availability of 3 or 4 holes depends on the installed punch unit. See Installable Options about how to configure the punch unit. The staple and punch options are applied across the feeding direction (to the edge of the paper which leaves the copier last). Therefore they restrict the orientation of the paper in the tray. E.g.,
Windows Printing 31
for an A4 or Letter portrait page with side stapling, you must have A4 or Letter, long edge fed paper in the selected tray, short edge fed paper will not work. 6. Fold selects the folding mode:
Half Fold (in/out)
Z-Fold (A3, B4, 11x17)
Z-Fold (8x14)
Center Staple and Fold
Center Staple and Fold, Trim
Letter Fold (in/out)
Zigzag Fold (in/out)
Double Parallel Fold (in/out) Gate Fold (in/out)
Multi-Letter Fold (in/out)
Multi Half Fold The In checkbox determines whether the printed side (first page) of the paper is folded to the inside or to the outside. Folding requires that the paper is short edge fed. Z folding is typically applied with mixed paper sizes where one size is twice as big as the other (e.g., A3 and A4 or Tabloid and Letter). In this case, the bigger paper is short edge fed and Z folded to match the size and orientation of the smaller paper. 7. Group selects if documents are output sorted or grouped: Sort (unchecked): 3 copies of a 3 page document are output as 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3. Group (checked): 3 copies of a 3 page document are output as 1-1-1, 2-2-2, 3-3-3.
Do not use the Collate option of the main printer driver dialog to select sort/group.
32 Windows Printing
Offset selects if copies are offset in the output tray for easy separation. Note: Offset is performed per set, i.e. for multiple copies of a multi page job, offset is performed after each copy. N to 1 outputs the pages in reverse order. N to 1 is applied after imposition has been performed. See also Page order in section Print Properties. N to 1 is not allowed with Center Staple and Fold, Trim or with Face up.
Windows Printing 39
Note: Front cover sheet and insert before page 1 (see section Trays) cannot be selected together. Only one sheet can be inserted before page 1. Note: A blank cover sheet can be drawn from the Post Inserter. However, with Multi Letter Fold Out, only front cover can be selected, and with Multi Letter Fold In, only back cover can be selected.
40 Windows Printing
The Trays panel allows you to select trays for each page of the job individually. It can be used to print chapter separation sheets on special paper, or to print a whole chapter on special paper. The Trays panel also allows you to enter page numbers and texts for tab sheets. The general settings for tab sheet printing (number of tabs, font etc.) can be entered in the Tab Settings panel. Finally the Trays panel allows you to configure the output tray. The tray to be used for the job as a whole is selected by Paper source in the Properties panel of the Print dialog. This selection can be augmented by the selection in the Trays panel. Each line entered under Per Page Settings specifies that the settings selected in this row shall be applied to the given page numbers. Pages must be entered as a comma separated list of individual page numbers, or of page ranges where the lower and upper bounds are separated by a dash. Pages count from 1 and refer to the pages included in the job. If your document contains Roman numbering, or if you print only one chapter of a book, the page numbering in the job may deviate from the page numbering in your document. If duplex printing is selected for the job or for a set of pages, each individual page and each start of a page range are forced on a new sheet. E.g., if the job shall be printed duplex on tray 1, and page 18-25 on tray 3, then pages 1-17 will be printed from tray 1, page 17 will have an empty back page, and pages 18-25 will be printed starting on a new sheet from tray 3. Note: Page numbers are applied after imposition, e.g. for a 2in1 imposition, you should divide the page numbers by two.
Windows Printing 41
Type allows you to select the following settings for the selected pages: Same as Body job setting Insert Blank Sheet an empty sheet shall be inserted after the selected pages. If duplex printing is requested, the selected page is forced on a new sheet if necessary. E.g., if the job shall be printed duplex, and a page inserted after page 7, then page 7 will have an empty back page, and page 8 will be on a new sheet, after the inserted sheet. Print Single Sided simplex printing (possibly different from the job setting) Print Double Sided duplex printing (possibly different from the job setting)
The tray selected under Source specifies that the given pages shall be drawn from this tray. In the above example, page 18 to 25 and 27 to 29 are printed on paper fed from tray 3 and page 37 is printed on paper fed from tray 2. Hole-Punch and Staple allow to select punching and stapling different from the job setting. Finish Staple determines that the set to be stapled ends with the specified page. If the following pages are still to be stapled, they will form a new set.
42 Windows Printing
Use Tab Paper determines that a tab sheet shall be printed for the specified page with the given tab text. If a tab sheet is printed, Type indicates if an extra sheet is inserted: Insert Blank Sheet inserts a sheet containing only the tab text before the selected page. Print Single Sided create a tab sheet containing the content of the selected page and the tab text.
Tab sheets are always printed single sided. Tab sheets can have A4 Tab or Letter Tab size. If they are combined with normal A4 or Letter pages, they must of course be drawn from a different tray. Note: Due to technical reasons, blank pages without tab are inserted after the specified page. To insert a blank sheet before the first page of the job, use the Cover function in the Cover panel. On the other hand, blank pages with tab are inserted before the specified page. This allows to insert a blank tab sheet before the first page of the job directly. The tab number indicator behind the text shows on which tab the selected text will be printed. E.g. in the above screenshot, page 1 will be printed on tab 1 of a set of 5, and page 41 will be printed on tab 2 of a set of 5. By default, the tab number is adjusted automatically to achieve a natural ordering of the tab sheets. This is indicated by an asterisk behind the set size. If you want to print incomplete tab sets, e.g. start with sheet 3 of a set of 5, select the tab number of the first tab explicitly, e.g. 3/5. To revert to automatic ordering, select Continue. More tab settings can be entered in the Tab Settings panel, see section Tab Sheets.
Windows Printing 43
Output Tray determines the output tray to be used. The choices available for the output tray depend on the finishing options selected in the Layout panel. Pile permission determines if several jobs can be piled in the stacker. If it is off, the current job must be removed before the next job can be printed to the stacker. Chapter determines together with duplex printing that each page listed should be printed on a front page. E.g. the above screenshot indicates that pages 4, 7, 8, 9 shall be printed on a front page.
44 Windows Printing
Tab Sheets
The Tab Sheets panel allows to configure general settings for tab sheet printing. The texts and page numbers for each tab are entered in the Trays panel, see section Trays. Papersize determines the paper size for the tab sheets. It can be A4 Tab or Letter Tab, corresponding to A4 or Letter paper size for the job. If Z folding is enabled, job pages may also have A3 or Tabloid size. Number of Tabs specifies how many tabs make a set of tab sheets. Together with Space above, Space below, and Gap, it allows to position the tab texts on each sheet. Font Name, Bold, Italic and Size determine the font for the tab text. Orientation determines the text orientation and direction on the tab. It can be Normal (downwards), Flipped (upwards), Horizontal, or Vertical. The tab preview window shows the orientation visually. Tab Position determines if the tab text is aligned at the top, center, or bottom of the tab. Text Position allows to move the tab text horizontally. By default, the visual center of the tab text is aligned with the horizontal center of the tab. The tab preview window shows a preview of each tab text which has a page number assigned. This allows you to check if the tab text fits into the tab. To select a tab, click on the desired tab in the page preview window. To step (step backwards) through the tabs, click (shift-click) repeatedly on the tab in the tab preview window. To actually print on tab sheets, put the set of tab sheets into the selected tray with long edge feed orientation, face down, first page on top, tabs to the left. (Note that this is reverse order.) Make sure the job pages (A4 for A4 Tab, Letter for Letter Tab) are also in long edge feed orientation. Note: Tab Sheet printing is not supported with imposition (Layout not equal Off).
Windows Printing 45
Screening
The Screening panel allows you to control the screen (raster) settings. Screen settings are applied to all elements on the page (text, graphics, and images). You can set the following attributes: 1. Halftonimg sets the screen frequency. The freqency is measured in lpi (lines per inch). Higher values yield a finer raster, but allow less grey levels to be distinguished. Screen angle sets the screen angle. In general it is good to print monochrome pages at an angle of 45. Print density selects the toner density to be applied by the copier: 4. Light 1, , Light 5, Normal, Dark
Smoothing selects the image smoothing to be applied by the copier: Off, Type 1, Type 2, Type 3
Notes: Off - no smoothing. Type 1 is suitable for printing the diagonal lines of general characters and graphics. Type 2 is suitable for printing the curved sections of general characters. Type 3 is suitable for printing the curved sections of ornamental characters and fine lines.
46 Windows Printing
The Forms panel allows you to apply forms. Forms are stored as rendered bitmaps on your bizhub PRO 1050. They can be appended behind, prepended in front of, or used as overlay for subsequent jobs. The forms preview allows to check a form visually before printing with it. Forms can be created using the Output Method function in the Workflow panel, see section Workflow. When the Forms panel is opened and a printer is connected, the plug-in obtains the forms list from the printer and shows it. The forms list is required for all other functions in the Forms panel. To update the forms list, select another panel and then the Forms panel again. After the plug-in has obtained the forms list, select a form to show its preview and enable the other forms functions. To step through the pages of a multi page form, click on the forward/back buttons beside the preview. Copy to Clipboard copies the currently shown page of the form in screen resolution into the clipboard. You can paste it into your document to align the contents of your document with the form. Before actually printing, you should of course remove the screen resolution copy from your document. Note: If you paste the forms preview into MS Word, make sure to paste it into a text field which is positioned at (0,0) from the page, which has all margins 0 and whose size is equal to the page size. This is to ensure that the forms preview is kept in full size and not wrongly scaled down. Prepend/Append determine that the pages of the selected form are prepended in front of the current job or appended behind the current job. Overlay Once determines that all pages of the form are overlaid once on the current job, starting from page 1. E.g. Overlay Once for a 4 page form on an 8 page job means that the form pages are overlaid on pages 1 to 4 of the job.
52 Windows Printing
is printed in your presence. The job will be put into a list of private jobs and only be printed after you release it on the copier panel by entering the user id and password. The secure print id and the password must both consist of 1 - 8 alphanumeric characters. You may choose them yourself. To enter the secure print id and the password, select Autoprint Secure Print, click into the Secure Print ID field, enter the id, hit TAB to move to the Password field, enter the password, hit TAB to move to the Password confirmation field, enter the password again. While your input is invalid or not yet complete, the id and password fields will be shown with red background. Secure printing does not block other jobs. 5. User authentication encloses your user name and password with your job. This identification will be used to determine your printing rights. You must supply a user name and password if user authentication is enabled by the administrator of the bizhub PRO 1050. If you do not supply user name and password, you will be considered as a public user who may have no or only restricted rights to print. The user name must consist of 4 - 64 alphanumeric characters. The password must consist of 1 - 64 alphanumeric characters. User accounts are configured by the administrator of the bizhub PRO 1050. To enter the user name and the password, check User authentication, click into the User name field, enter the user name, hit TAB to move to the Password field, enter the password, hit TAB to move to the Password confirmation field, enter the password again. While your input is invalid or not yet complete, the user name and password fields will be shown with red background. Note: To work as public user, do not enter a user name like PUBLIC. The public user is identified by no user name. 6. Account Track encloses a department name and/or password with your job. This identification will be used for tracking copying volume. You must supply a department name and/or password if volume tracking is enabled by the administrator of the bizhub PRO 1050. The department name must consist of up to 8 alphanumeric characters. The password must consist of 1 - 8 alphanumeric characters. An empty department name means the department is identified by the password. Department accounts are configured by the administrator of the bizhub PRO 1050. To enter the department name and the password, check Volume track settings, click into the Department name field, enter the department name, hit TAB to move to the Password field, enter the password, hit TAB to move to the Password confirmation field, enter the password again. While your input is invalid or not yet complete, the password fields will be shown with red background.
Windows Printing 53
Output method allows you to select that your job is stored in a box for later reprinting. A box is a container at the copier which is created by the administrator. Print is the default and means normal printing. Save in user box stores the job in the specified box without printing it. Save in user box and print stores the job in the specified box and prints it. Forms allows you to create a form in the Forms panel.
To store a job in a box, select Output method Save in user box (and print), click into the User box number field, enter the box number, hit TAB to move to the Filename field, and enter the filename. An empty box number indicates the public box which is accessible without user authentication. Other box numbers are assigned to user accounts and you must authenticate by your user name and password to access them. Each box number is accessible only to one registered user. A job in a box is identified by box number and filename. This means when you store a job with a box number and filename which are already present, you will overwrite the old job. Note: The identification and password settings for secure printing, user authentication, volume tracking, and box number are not cleared when you click Restore defaults. To clear them, enter other values manually.

Installing the Printer Driver Software
The bizhub PRO 1050 client software is delivered on a hybrid Windows and Macintosh CD-ROM. The CD-ROM contains one folder for each supported language. For each language it contains drivers for MacOS 9 and MacOS X.
Open the folder of your choice.
The MacOS X printer driver comes as an installer package containing the software for all languages. The printer driver software consists of a PPD which defines printer properties, a printer driver plug-in which provides advanced printing functions under a graphical user interface, and a CUPS filter which injects PostScript code generated by the plug-in. Double click the bizhub PRO 1050 package icon to install the bizhub PRO 1050 software. Follow the instructions given by the Installer.
MacOS X Installation 59
Before you can print a document, you must determine its size and orientation. Usually, the size and orientation of a newly created document are determined as A4 or Letter and portrait. To determine the document page size and orientation, select File Page Setup.
In the resulting dialog, behind Format for, select KONICA MINOLTA 1050 PS (Plug-in) as your current printer, then select the size and orientation for your document. The paper sizes of the bizhub PRO 1050 are described in appendix Paper Sizes. Note: The document page size as defined in Page Setup may be different from the output paper size on which you print. E.g. if you print using booklet layout, the output paper size will be twice the document page size. The output paper size can be selected in the Print dialog. Orientation may be portrait, landscape rotated left, or landscape rotated right. Left and right rotation makes a difference e.g. if you create documents with mixed A4 portrait and A3 landscape or mixed Letter portrait and Tabloid landscape pages. In order to obtain the same handling as for the Windows version of the bizhub PRO 1050 driver, select left rotation.
60 MacOS X Printing
MacOS X allows you to define multiple named custom page sizes. To define a custom page size, select File Page Setup. In the Page Setup dialog, behind Settings, select Custom Paper Size. This will show the Custom Paper Size dialog:
Click New to create a new custom paper size. Enter the name, the size, and the margins for the custom paper size. To save your settings, click Save or OK. The newly defined paper size will appear in the list of paper sizes for all printers.
MacOS X Printing 61
After a document has been created in an application, it can be printed on a bizhub PRO 1050. Printing the document is initiated in the Print dialog, which calls the printer driver to generate a PostScript data stream, the job. The data stream represents the elements on the document pages. It is amended by detailed instructions for processing, the job ticket. The job ticket contains information like page size and orientation, number of copies, tray selection, imposition and finishing modes. To print a document, select File Print.
The popup labeled Printer allows you to select the printer which corresponds to the target bizhub PRO 1050. The popup labeled Presets allows you to save and load your own named combinations of settings. To save the current settings, select Save as and enter a name for them. After this, the saved settings can be selected by this name from the popup. The unlabeled third popup allows you to select a panel of the Print dialog, including the panels of the printer driver plug-in. In the Copies and Pages panel, you can select the following options: The range of pages to be printed The number of copies to be printed
82 Appendix
The following paper sizes support full bleed printing: Wide paper sizes, custom paper sizes, Tab sizes (A4 Tab, Letter Tab)
Note: Although the maximal document page size and the maximal output paper size are both 324 x 460 mm (12.75 x 18.11 inch), the maximal printing area of the engine is 314 x 460 mm (12.36 x 18.11 inch). If the width of the output paper size exceeds 314 mm (12.36 inch), the output page will be clipped or scaled correspondingly (default = clip), depending on the setting of Fit, see section Paper.
