| I too did lots of research before buying a more capable digital camera. I sold an Olympus C2100UZ to "upgrade" to this camera. To say that I was dissappointed is an understatement. The Olympus is twice the camera. | |

MICROPRESS INSTALLATION GUIDE
Before Installing
Licensing
Upgrade If upgrading from any version of MicroPress prior to 7.0, a new license number is required. The numbers from the MicroPress and Harlequin security devices (located on the outside of the device) will be needed to obtain the new license number. Attempting to perform the installation without the new license number could render your system unusable. Engine Connectivity In order for MicroPress Professional and Production Servers to connect to a new print engine, a new license number is required. To obtain a new license number, submit the Certificate of Entitlement, included with the engine's connectivity kit.
N OTE : This is not required for MicroPress Prodigy Servers.
Multiple Processors
C AUTION : IF YOU HAVE MULTIPLE PROCESSORS Do not proceed with installation
of MicroPress unless you have the key code for enabling multiple processors.
Suspended Jobs
C AUTION : PSM jobs in the Suspended (S) state may become corrupted when upgrading the
MicroPress software. Suspended jobs should be set to another state to avoid possible corruption.
Additional Requirements for Installation of MicroPress
N OTE : Microsoft Windows NT Service Pack 6.0 (or higher)
If you are installing the MicroPress on a Microsoft Windows NT 4 server, Service Pack 6.0 should be installed prior to installation of the MicroPress.
N OTE : Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.0 (or higher)
If you are installing the MicroPress on a Microsoft Windows 2000 server, Service Pack 4.0 or higher should be installed prior to installation of the MicroPress.
N OTE : Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1.0
If you are installing the MicroPress on a Microsoft Windows XP server, Service Pack 1.0 should be installed prior to installation of the MicroPress.
Saving and Restoring Fonts
Use the following steps to save and restore fonts that have been installed into the MicroPress RIP. This procedure be done for each RIP installation on the MicroPress server. For more details refer to the section Appendix B, Backup and Restore the MicroPress RIP in the MicroPress RIP Reference Manual. Backup RIP Fonts
C AUTION : Restoring fonts is not possible unless a Backup operation is performed before
removing, reinstalling or upgrading MicroPress software. Perform Backup operations any time fonts are added to the RIP. The process is described below. This operation will save RIP fonts to a single file called "Fonts.ps." Processing this file through the RIP will restore fonts added or deleted since the last backup. This might also be used to load the current font set to a future RIP version. To backup current RIP fonts, follow these steps:
1 Copy the file \Micropress\RIP\trsysm01\Utilities\BackupFonts.ps to a location that is not in the \MicroPress folder. 2 Launch the MicroPress RIP. 3 From the MicroPress RIP, print the BackupFonts.ps file from the location determined in Step 1. From the MP-RIP menu, select Print File. The page setup selection does not matter. 4 Select the file "BackupFonts.ps" (see Step 1). 5 Click OK. The MicroPress RIP will create the file "Fonts.ps" and store it in the folder with the "BackupFonts.ps" file (see Step 1). 6 Launch the Windows Explorer and browse to the location of the Fonts.ps file to confirm that it was indeed created. 7 Install the MicroPress software. See the following section Directions For Installing MicroPress Software on page 4 for instructions.
Restore RIP Fonts The RIP can restore fonts using the file "Fonts.ps." Restoring fonts will not delete existing fonts. To restore fonts, follow these steps:
8 If Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 is not installed on the MicroPress server where MicroPress is being installed, a dialog will be displayed. It is recommended to allow the Internet Explorer 5.5 installation. Note: When installing the MicroPress update, determine the location of existing MicroPress software before proceeding. When prompted for a drive location to install the update, select the same drive letter as the existing installation. 9 Review the destination drive you have chosen and click Next to continue. The MicroPress installer displays the status of the copy operation. 10 When all documentation files are copied, the installation of CD 1 is complete.
When the MicroPress installer finishes copying the files and restarting the system is necessary, Setup Complete will appear. Choose Yes, I want to restart my computer now. Click Finish. OR If restarting is not required, click Finish on the Setup Complete dialog that is displayed.
Note: The following installation of the Host Adapter Driver may be accomplished via 2 methods. If desired, the New Install Wizard for the Host Adapter Driver can be cancelled and Method 2 may be used at a later time. This installation should not be necessary if the MicroPress software installation is an upgrade.
Host Adapter Driver Installation in Windows 2000 When MicroPress software is installed on a server with the Windows 2000 OS, an additional driver must be installed. This should only be necessary if installing MicroPress software for the first time, not for an upgrade. The driver is for the PCI HostAdapter. The two methods for the driver installation are outlined in the steps below. If the server must be restarted in the previous step, the New Hardware Wizard will prompt for the drivers.
Method 1 First restart after MicroPress Installation
1 Restart the server after installing the MicroPress software. 2 The New Hardware Wizard will display a message stating that new hardware has been located. Click Next. 3 The wizard message will state that Other PCI Bridge Device has been found. Select Search for suitable driver for my device and click Next. 4 Check the Search on CD box and insert the MicroPress Documentation CD. Click Next. 5 The wizard will display a message stating that a driver has been found. The driver is located in the root directory of the CD. Click Next. 6 Click Finish.
Method 2 Via Control Panel
1 Click the Start button and then Settings | Control Panel. 2 Double-click the System icon. 3 Click the Hardware tab, then click the Device Manager button. 4 Click the (+) to expand Other Devices in the listing. 5 Right-click on Other PCI Bridge Device and select Properties from the menu. 6 Click the Driver tab. 7 Click the Update Driver button, then click Next on the Welcome to the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog. 8 Select Search for suitable driver for my device and click Next. 9 Check the Search on CD box and insert the MicroPress Documentation CD. Click Next. 10 The wizard will display a message stating that a driver has been found. Click Next. 11 Click Finish.
To complete the installation CD 2:
The MicroPress installer displays an information message. If the system must be restarted, insert CD 2 after the system has restarted.
1 Insert the MicroPress Disk 2 System Files CD into the CD-ROM drive. 2 If the installer doesnt start automatically, click the Start button and then Run. 3 Type "D:\Setup.exe" (where D is the letter of the CD-ROM drive). Click OK. 4 At the Welcome screen click Next. 5 Read the Software License Agreement and choose Yes to accept the terms.
6 Choose the Setup Type (New Install or Upgrade), then click Next. The default option will be a New Installation of all licensed MicroPress software. 7 MicroPress License Number:
New Install installs all licensed MicroPress software and requires entering the MicroPress license number (case sensitive) provided by your dealer. Upgrade is used if there is an existing installation of MicroPress software. The installer will populate the license number dialog by checking the current installation. An upgrade may consist of: Updating only currently licensed software. Updating currently licensed software and licensing new products and features. In this case, a new license number will be provided by your dealer to be entered.
8 Click Next. Note: Enter 8 digit segments in each of the first three boxes and the remainder in the Variable: Length box, or enter the entire number in the Variable Length box. 9 A summary of licensed components will be displayed. Click Next. 10 Clear the checkbox for any components you do not want to install then click Continue. When the list of components is correct, click Next. 11 On the Engine Setup Wizard, select one of the following: Note: To have a fully functional MicroPress system after installation, the IP address for each network connected engine must be known when installing using Custom for an Upgrade or New Install. Otherwise, the PSM Configuration utility will have to be used to enter the IP addresses for these engines after the installation.
New Install Standard (default) Produces a configuration consisting of one VE for each engine of each type installed (S1, S2, Z1, Z2, etc.) and a VE with all engines for each engine type (S12, Z12, etc.). Custom Manually select configuration from licensed options and engines. If this method is chosen, two additional setup dialogs will be presented, one for configuration of Physical Engines, and one for confiuration of Virtual Engines. Note: For basic instructions on installing physical and virtual engines, consult the PSM Configuration manual. Upgrade
12 Select an installation type and click Next. 13 Verify the current settings, then click Next. You can click Back to change settings. Note: If a Read Only File Detected message appears, click the box for Dont display this message again. Then click Yes. 14 Completing Installation:
When the MicroPress installer finishes copying the files and restarting the system is necessary, Setup Complete will appear. Choose Yes, I want to restart my computer now. Click Finish. OR If restarting is not required, click Finish on the Setup Complete dialog that is displayed.
N OTE : Peedy, the Help Agent will fly onto the desktop after the system reboots. Right-click on
him for information.
N OTE : If the MicroPress RIP was updated during the installation,
launch each RIP from the shortcut installed in the Start menu. Do not use the Launch MicroPress shortcut at this point. The Launch MicroPress shortcut should only be used after each RIP has been started for the second time. Make sure that the Generate RIP Autoconfig on exit checkbox on the PSM Configuration main screen is turned off (i.e., is unchecked) before using the Launch MicroPress shortcut on the Start menu. The first time the RIP is launched, a dialog may be displayed requiring the RIP password. Enter the number and click OK. At this point, it is possible that several MP-RIP message dialogs will be displayed. Select Yes or OK to continue. These messages will only be displayed the first time the RIP is started, shut down and re-started. If multiple RIPs were installed, this process will have to be performed for each one.
15 After selecting OK to the last error message, the RIP will automatically shut down. 16 Start the RIP again. 17 Start PrintStation Manager and confirm that all PrintStations are configured correctly.
N OTE : On completion of the MicroPress software installation, if there is no default printer,
one should be assigned. Assigning a default printer will avoid problems with applications such as Microsoft Word, etc. To do this go to the the Start menu and then Settings | Printers. Right-click on the printer to use as the default and select Set as default.

Configuring Pipes for Printing to MicroPress
If a Custom New Install or Update is not done, configuring the engines must be done before most functions of the MicroPress can be used. Configuring MicroPress pipes for printing may be done automatically or manually depending on the desired outcome. Pipes can be created automatically using PrintStation Manager Configuration. For complete instructions for defining licensing for all purchased options of MicroPress and the configuration of all engines for either host adapter ports or network IP addresses, see the PrintStation Manager Configuration Reference Manual. The method explained here creates pipes using the default MicroPress pipe names. The manual method should be used to create pipes with custom names.
Automatic Configuration of Pipes
To automatically create pipes:
1 Exit all open applications including Peedy, the Microsoft Help Agent. Right click on Peedy and select Exit. 2 Go to the Start menu and then Programs | MicroPress and select PrintStation Manager Configuration. 3 Check the Generate RIP Autoconfig on exit box.
C AUTION : Although new virtual printers can be added using this method, all printers are reset
to factory defaults in this process. In addition, virtual printers not selected for "RIP Autoconfig" are deleted.
4 Exit PSM Configuration. 5 Launch Peedy by going to the Start menu and selecting Run. Enter e:\micropress\Peedy.exe (where E is the drive where MicroPress was installed) in the dialog that appears. Click OK. 6 Go to the Start menu and select Programs | MicroPress and select MicroPress RIP. Launch each RIP from the shortcut installed in the Start menu. Do not use the Launch MicroPress shortcut at this point. The Launch MicroPress shortcut should only be used after each RIP has been started for the second time.
N OTE : At this point, it is possible that several MP-RIP message dialogs will be displayed.
Select Yes or OK to continue. These messages will only be displayed the first time the RIP is started, shut down and re-started. If multiple RIPs were installed, this process will have to be performed for each one. A window requesting a license number may also be displayed. This number will be provided by your dealer.
7 After selecting OK to the last error message, the RIP will automatically shut down. 8 Start the RIP again. This will complete the process of the automatic pipe configurations. You must wait for the RIP to completely load prior to launching other MicroPress applications. The message There are no filename exclusion will be the last line in the window when the RIP has completed its configuration. 9 Launch the PrintStation Manager Configuration application and confirm that all PrintStations are configured correctly.
Manual Configuration of Pipes
MicroPress RIPs Input Controller on a server that has MicroSpool installed an input named MP-RIP01 by default and it is of type MicroSpool. For servers without MicroSpool, it is NT Pipe. This is the factory default configuration; however there may be times when manually editing this component is required. The example below shows how to manually create an input and printer share for an HP DesignJet. Example:
1 Select (uncheck) Start Inputs from the MP-RIP menu. 2 From the MicroPress RIP, select Input Controller from the MP-RIP menu. 3 Click New and fill out the items as follows on the Input Channel Edit dialog:
For Name, type "MP-RIP01". If there are multiple RIPs, the name must match the RIP for which this input is intended. The second RIP name would be MP-RIP02, and so on.
For Type, select MicroSpool for a server with MicroSpool installed OR NT Pipe for a server without MicroSpool For Page Setup select the appropriate Page Setup.
4 Click Configure (not available if you selected MicroSpool) to display the Named Pipe Plugin dialog and enter TRDriver as the Pipe Prefix. 5 Click OK. 6 Click OK to save the new configuration. 7 Close the Input Controller dialog by clicking the x in the upper right-hand corner. 8 Select (check) Start Inputs from the MP-RIP menu. 9 To add the NT printer go to the Start menu and click Settings | Printers. Click on Add Printer. 10 Select My Computer and click Next. 11 Click the Add Port button. 12 Select Local Port and click New Port.
13 For the name enter: \\.\pipe\TRDriver\MP-RIPThe case sensitive syntax is: \\.\pipe\<name-of-Pipe-Prefix>\<name-of-the-NT-PipeInput>. 15 Click OK. 16 Click Close on the Printer Ports dialog. 17 Click Next on the Add Printer Wizard. 18 Select EFI from the Manufacturers list in the left pane and then the appropriate printer from the right pane. Click Next. 19 Select Keep existing driver (recommended) and click Next. 20 Click Next. 21 Select Shared or Not shared. Enter a Share Name if shared. Click Next. 22 Click Finish.
Click the Start button to begin the download and programming process. The progress of the operation will be displayed in the progress bar part of the FlashWrite window. Some PrintStations have displays that will also show download status. The PrintLink Cii displays a rotating symbol.
C AUTION : The download operation may take a minute or more. This operation must
complete successfully before the printer can be used. The printer must remain powered on or for the Minolta D1620 / D1620PE / D1520 printers, the PrintLink must remain ON and the Printer OFF. The printer must also be connected to the MicroPress server during the entire download sequence or the download will be aborted. If the user aborts the download by pressing the "STOP" button, the flash code download will not be completed and must be restarted.
7 When the download is complete, the MicroPress server speaker should beep and the following screen will be displayed: 8 The PrintStation should reset and begin normal operation at this time. It is a good idea to turn the printer on, then off, and then on again after updating the Flash code. 9 Exit the FlashWrite program. The PSM can now be started and normal operations resumed.
Updating Multiple Printers: Multiple printers can be updated simultaneously by repeating the above procedures for each host adapter port.
Troubleshooting
If the message "Programming Failed" appears in the progress bar or the PrintStation display indicates a failure (an asterisk on the Cii), check the following: Make sure that the data file part number matches the Flash part number displayed in Step 4. Check that the PrintStation cable is properly attached and the printer power is on or for Minolta printers, the printer is off and the PrintLink box is on. Be certain that the Flash programming process was not interrupted by exiting the FlashWrite program before it had completed. Be certain that the Flash programming process was not interrupted by starting the PSM program while FlashWrite is running.
