! All media is fed short edge first, face up. ! There is a 0.157" (4 mm) non-print border for all edges on all media
types. Refer to page 18 for paper longer than 11.7" (297 mm).
! See your application documentation for specific information on formatting

data and printing.

! Try printing your data on a plain sheet of paper first to check placement. ! Only plain paper, 1624 lb (6090 g/m2) can be autoduplexed. See
Media Specifications for supported sizes.

Attention

Use only KONICA MINOLTA-approved media. Using unsupported media such as inkjet paper will result in damaging the printer and in voiding your warranty.

Each toner cartridge has a colored end that corresponds to a color inside the cartridge slots. Always install the toner cartridge in the slot of the same color.
Do not touch the toner roller surface. This could lower image quality. Do not hold the toner cartridge vertically.
Verify that the color of the label in the toner compartment is the same as the color of the toner in the cartridge.
Installing a cartridge with toner of a different color than the label in the compartment may damage the printer.
Supporting the middle of the cartridge with your left hand, place the thumb and index finger of your right hand into the two holes in the front of the toner cartridge, and then insert the cartridge so that the guides on the cartridge fit into the rails in the cartridge compartment in the carousel. Gently push the new toner cartridge into the printer. Close the printers front door. After about 150-seconds Printer Idle appears in the Status Display.
The printer must complete a 150-second calibration cycle after any consumable has been replaced. If you open the door before the Ready indicator on the control panel lights up and the Error indicator turns off, the printer stops and repeats the calibration cycle.
If the logo written on the box of the toner cartridge to be installed is KONICA MINOLTA, proceed to step 24. If the logo is MINOLTA-QMS, continue to step 19 to set the capacity of the toner cartridge. From the Printer menu choose Toner Replace.
Select the Change Capacity Only check box. In the Color list box, select the color of the toner cartridge to be replaced (CYAN, MAGENTA, YELLOW, or BLACK). Click the Capacity option (1500 or 4500). Click OK. From the Display menu, choose Supplies Status to display the Supplies Status dialog box. Check the capacity of the installed toner cartridge. Place the used toner cartridge in the box that the new toner cartridge was packed in.
For toner recycling availability, contact toner_recycle@bpus.konicaminolta.us, or dispose of the used toner cartridge according to your local regulations. Do not dispose of it by burning.

Make sure that. Media matches the printer specifications. Media is flat, especially on the leading edge. The printer is on a hard, flat, level surface. You store media in a dry location away from moisture and humidity. You remove transparencies from the output tray immediately to avoid static buildup. You always adjust the media guides in Tray 1 after inserting the media (a guide that is not properly adjusted can cause poor print quality, media jams, or printer damage). You load the media (for single-sided pages) printing-side up in Tray 1 (many manufacturers place an arrow on the end of the wrapper to indicate the printing side). Avoid. Media that is folded, wrinkled, or excessively curled. Double feeding (remove the media and fan the sheetsthey may be sticking together). Fanning transparencies since this causes static. Loading more than one type/size/weight of media in a tray at the same time. Overfilling the media input trays. Allowing the output tray to overfill (the face-down output tray has a 200-sheet capacityjamming may occur if you allow media to accumulate more than 200 sheets at a time). Do not tilt the printer in any direction at any time. For best output quality and longest consumables life, place the printer on a hard, flat, level, stable surface capable of supporting about 37 kg (81 lbs). Remove the tape and packing materials from the outside of the printer. Remove the cardboard from Tray 1(the multipurpose tray).
Pull the right-side door release $, and then open the right-side door %. Open the two green levers % at the top of the fuser unit $.
Slide the two fuser separators up % and out & from under the green levers.

Remove the media support from its plastic shipping bag, and then attach it to Tray 1. Insert the three tabs $ on the media support into the three holes in Tray 1, and then lower the two tabs % into their corresponding holes below Tray 1.
Loading Tray 1 (Multipurpose Tray)
Tray 1 (the multipurpose tray) is used for all supported media types, including envelopes, labels, Japanese-sized postcards, thick stock, and transparencies. Check http://printer.konicaminolta.net/support (click on Answer Base) for currently approved media. To order approved media, go to www.q-shop.com. For information about loading different types of media, refer to Using Media in the Users Guide.

Attention

Do not mix media types/sizes in the media trays.
Adjust the media guides to fit the size of media that you are loading. Fan a stack of approximately 200 sheets of paper. Load the media face up, short edge first. Often, an arrow on the paper package label indicates the face-up (printing) side of the paper.
A fill limit mark is provided on the inside of the media guides. Tray 1 holds 200 sheets of 80 g/m or 22 lb bond paper.
Adjust the media guides to fit the media.
Always adjust the media guides after inserting the media. Guides that are not properly adjusted can cause poor print quality, media jams, or printer damage.

Installing Accessories

Installing accessories always requires that the printer be turned off and unplugged. If you purchased any additional printer accessories (such as a duplex option), then install them now. If installation instructions are included with the accessory, follow them. If not, instructions are included in the Users Guide (in PDF on the Utilities and Documentation CD-ROM).
Plugging in/Turning on the Printer 1 Make sure the printer is turned off. 2 Plug the printer power cord into the printer and into a dedicated,
grounded, surge-protected electrical outlet.

Turn on the printer.

The Ready and Error indicators light up, and then, after 180 seconds, the Error indicator turns off while the Ready indicator stays on. If the indicators do not light up in this way, check the setup.
The printer automatically switches to power-saving (Energy Saver) mode after 30 minutes of inactivity. Using the Status Display utility, you can change the amount of time the printer waits before switching to power-saving mode. (Refer to Working with the Status Display in the Users Guide )

Connect the Interface Cable

$ USB Port

Use a USB 1.1 cable (Type B) when connecting the USB port on the printer to the USB port on your computer.

% Parallel Port

Use a Centronics IEEE 1284 bidirectional parallel cable when connecting the parallel port on the printer to the parallel port on your computer.
Install the Printer Driver 1 In case the Found New Hardware wizard shows up, while connecting
your PC with your printer, cancel it.
Do not use Plug-and-Play or the Windows Add Printer Wizard. You must use the CD-ROM Installer in order to correctly install all necessary printer drivers and utilities.
Insert the magicolor2300W Documentation & Utilities CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive of your PC. The CD-ROM Installer automatically starts; otherwise, browse with the Windows Explorer to the CD-ROM and double-click on setup.exe. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the magicolor2300W printer driver and utilities. When the driver and utilities are installed, remove the CD-ROM from your CD-ROM drive and store it in a safe place.
