Section i5S/i5M Question How do I utilise the Extra Tracks in Backing Sequence mode on the i5S keyboard or I5M module ? Answer 1. Press Backing Sequence. 2. Select an Arrangement to use in Backing Sequence Mode. 3. Press Backing Seq Rec. This will put the machine in a state of 'record wait', so that you will be ready to record all of your chord track, and the front-panel buttonpushes etc, once Start/Stop is pressed. 4. Use your cursor buttons to get the cursor to the top left-hand position in the screen, in order to make sure Atr is displayed. This stands for All Tracks. If this is not displayed, then press Value - until it is displayed. 5. Adjust the tempo, and sounds for the first record run-through. 6. Press Start/Stop to start the recording. 7. Play your piece, remembering to press Start/Stop at the end of the piece, otherwise the machine will continue to record. 8. This has now recorded all of the chords for the piece, along with one keyboard line, and all of the button-pushes, so if you pressed the Fill buttons, or changed to another variation on the product, then that will also have been recorded. 9. Press Reset to return to beginning of piece. It is advised to press Reset after you have played or are about to record, as this will always return you to the beginning of the piece of music. 10. Press Start/Stop to hear piece. 11. Press Reset to return to beginning 12. Press Backing Seq Rec to enter record-wait mode. 13. Position the cursor in the top, left-hand position in the screen, and, using Value +, make the display change to ETr1 which is Extra Track 1. (The process is the same for any of the Extra Tracks, so I will only describe Extra Track 1, although you could substitute any other number, up to 8.) 14. Press Backing Seq Rec again to leave Record wait mode. 15. Press Backing Seq until the light next to it is flashing 16. Press the Volume ^ button corresponding to the Extra Track you are recording. (i.e. ET1 for Extra Track 1 etc.) This will display 'ETr1:A11 Piano", or something similar, depending on what sound has been chosen. Position the cursor button underneath the 'A11' part, using your cursor buttons, then select, using the Value + and Value - buttons the sound you wish to use for that particular Extra Track. 17. After you have selected the sound you wish to use, change the volume, using the Volume up and down buttons, corresponding to that Extra Track.
18. Once the sound and volume have been set satisfactorily, then press Backing Seq Rec. This will put the unit into record-wait mode. 19. Press Start/Stop to commence the recording. You should hear any parts that you have already recorded, plus the part that you are currently recording now. 20. After you have finished that part, then press Start/Stop to stop recording. 21. Press Reset to return to the beginning of the song. 22. Press Start/Stop if you wish to listen to the piece. 23. Repeat steps 12-22 to record any other Extra Tracks, and to overdub. Section i5S/i5M Question How do I rename a Backing Sequence on the i5S/i5M ? Answer 1. Press Page + until Convert To SMF appears on screen. 2. Press Page - once, to make Rename B.Sequence appear on screen. 3. Rename the song, using your value buttons to change the letters, and the cursor buttons to move you through the word. 4. Press Page - until you can go no further once you are satisfied to return to the normal screen. Section i5S/i5M Question How do I save my data to disc on the i5S/i5M ? Answer 1. Press Disc/Global 2. Position the cursor under (SAVE) using your cursor buttons 3. Press YES 4. Position the cursor under (ALL) using your cursor buttons 5. Press YES 6. Rename the file, using the Value buttons to change the letters, and the cursor buttons to move along the word, then press YES when complete 7. That file with the specified file-name will now be saved to disc. 8. Press Arr. Play or any other mode button to leave disc mode. Section i5S/i5M Question How do I load data back into the machine again from disc ? Answer 1. Press Disc/Global 2. Position the cursor under (LOAD) using your cursor buttons 3. Press YES

4. Position the cursor under (LOAD ALL) using your cursor buttons 5. Press YES 6. Position the cursor under (ALL) using your cursor buttons 7. Press YES 8. The disc drive should now begin to spin, and a file-name will appear on screen. Selct the file you wish to load using your Value buttons. Once the file you wish to load appears in the screen, then press YES 9. The file will now load. Press Backing Seq then Start/Stop to hear the results of the load. Section i5S/i5M Question How do I set-up my i5M to work with a double-manual organ ? Answer The i5M can be configured in many different ways for use with either single keyboards, 2 manual organs or accordions. This is normally achieved by assigning different Midi channels to trigger the Chord/Auto accompaniment and the Keyboard 1 and Keyboard 2 settings. When the i5M is shipped or has its factory defaults loaded, it is ready to be easily used with a single keyboard. Normally the keyboard will be on Midi channel 1 and the i5M has a split point set at middle C. If notes are played on the keyboard, the keyboard will transmit this note information on Midi channel 1 to the i5M and the i5M will receive this and check to see whether it is above or below the middle C split point. If it is below the split point this note information will be used to trigger the auto accompaniment and if it is above it will play the right hand melody (KB1). On a two manual organ it is desirable to use the whole of the upper manual to play the melody part (KB1) and the lower manual to trigger the auto accompaniment. To achieve this set the i5M and organ to the following parameters: 1) On the i5M set the Global channel (GL) to the same channel that the upper manual is transmitting on, for this example we will assume this to be midi channel 1. Also set the KB1 and KB2 midi channels to be the same as the Global channel, in this case midi channel 1. 02) Set the Chord parameter (CHRD) to M. When this parameter is set to M the auto-accompaniment can be triggered by midi note data on either the Global midi channel or any other un-used midi channels. When this parameter is set to G, only midi note data on the Global channel will trigger the auto-accompaniment. 03) On the Organ set the upper manual to transmit on midi channel 1. Set the lower manual to transmit on midi channel 2. 04) On the i5M set the split point for the arrangement to the lowest key on the upper manual by pressing and holding the split point button and play the lowest note on the upper manual. It may be advisable to save this arrangement so that you do not have to adjust the split point every time you re-select the arrangement.
The reason this works is because the upper manual is transmitting on the same channel as KB1 and KB2 which allows it to play the melody parts. Because the split point for this upper manual is set to the bottom key it will play the melody across its full range and not trigger the auto accompaniment. The lower manual is set to transmit on a different midi channel to KB1 and KB2 so it will not play the melody part, but because the CHRD parameter is set to M, this allows the autoaccompaniment can be triggered by any midi channel that is unused by the i5M, in this case midi channel 2. Section N364/N264 Question When I play my N264/364, there is no sound even though the correct connections are made to the amplifier or headphones. Answer You will often find that this is because the Local Control in Global Mode is switched off. - Press the Global button, located at the left of the screen. - Press P3, the third horizontal function button to the left of the screen. Screen 3A will appear - Press Cursor Up to arrive at Page 3B Local/NoteR - On the lower left of the screen, OFF will appear and will be flashing - Press Yes located in the left of the screen to change OFF to ON. - Press PROG located at the left of the screen, and play a note to test.
