The model represents an outstanding final level of supermoto construction just below the positively sinful LCFactory Replica, a true moto hound with a fully loaded SM competition package. All SMC owners will enjoy many hours of riding, as these bikes are known for their surprising handling characteristics. GOAL Most riders today want to get as close as possible to the specs and characteristics of racing machines. With such riders in mind, Akrapovic, which also supplies exhaust systems to the KTM factory SM team, has developed a top-quality exhaust system which will take you a major step closer to your goal. The Akrapovic EVOLUTION exhaust system allows the engine of the KTM 660 SMC to breathe, and gives the whole package an extra degree of sharpness. ABOUT AKRAPOVIC EVOLUTION SYSTEMS The Akrapovic EVOLUTION is the top of the line in our range of exhaust systems. This means that we put all the elements, knowledge and experience which we gain developing exhaust systems for top racing teams into these systems. The Akrapovic EVOLUTION is a serious attempt to replicate the racing spirit for the general public. The EVOLUTION exhaust system is composed of conical elements made of high-tech titanium, welded together with elegant and aesthetically appealing filigree welds. The use of titanium guarantees minimum weight for the given strength and durability of the system. We have reduced the weight over the stock system by 1.26 kg. The 2-1 configuration fits smoothly into the sharp lines of the KTM. With the raw elegance of the conical elements and the visible welds on the header tubes, the racing soul of the system is readily apparent. The connections between the header tubes, the link pipe and the muffler are secured with free-floating joints held together with high-quality silicon-shielded tensioning springs. The springs hold the connections firmly in place while allowing the movement of the tubes up to their design tolerances. The EVOLUTION exhaust for the KTM 660 SMC is different from the usual Akrapovic Offroad design. The link pipe is not welded to the muffler, but is attached with a free-floating joint as mentioned above. The most intriguing feature is the muffler. It is a combination of our Road and Offroad series mufflers. This makes it well-suited to the character of the SM motorcycle, half street machine and half dirt bike. It is dimensioned like a road muffler but has the shape and end caps of an MX or enduro version. The muffler is further distinguished from the other versions by carrying the oval logo from our Road series. The dual carbon-fiber clamp will keep the muffler firmly in place despite the bikes excellent braking response and rear-end power. Measurements of the Akrapovic EVOLUTION system on the KTM LCSMC: power: A textbook example of a nice power curve and excellent tuning through changing the exhaust system. An increase over the stock curve and completely linear acceleration without a single drop-out all the way to max. power at 7460 rpm, where the engine puts 55.5 HP into the rear wheel, with the help of the Akrapovic EVOLUTION exhaust sytsem. The power curve is a thing of beauty in this range, as it remains high at the top end without fading like the stock curve. This means long-lasting reserves of power useful mainly in racing-style riding. torque: The compatibility of the engine and the Akrapovic exhaust system can also be seen in the torque curve. The injection of added torque will be welcome to all SMC riders. The increase over the stock torque throughout almost the entire range, broadening of the torque band and the combination with the power reserves will allow room for a wide variety of riding styles, from cruising smoothly in higher gears to dynamic riding with breathtaking acceleration no matter where the gearshift lever is. The KTM 660 SMC is an excellent package intended for dynamic riding, which can easily accommodate more a leisurely recreational style. Good times means good sounds, and at Akrapovic we have made sure that the melody of the single-cylinder SMC will be a featured attribute with the use of the EVOLUTION exhaust system.
