Great gadget for me I ordered 5 Tripp Lite (my son ordered them for me), and I gave away 4, and left with only one.

Controller for Symbian by Laplink Software is a tool for Symbian OS based phones that allows you to display the phone's screen on your computers screen and to use your phone from your PC. The connection between the phone and computer can be established in different ways using Bluetooth or a USB Cable. The phone will send the image to the PC while the PC will send key events and mouse clicks to the phone.

To obtain the Laplink Controller software: Go to www.laplink.com, and choose Products. Click on Laplink Controller, and choose either the Trial version, or purchase the appropriate version for your hand-held device. If you choose theTrial: Choose the appropriate version for your hand-held device. Go to the My Trials section of your My Support account, and download the software. If you choose to Purchase: Choose the appropriate version for your hand-held device. Go to the My Downloads section of your My Support account, and download the software. Install the correct.SIS file for your phone. For details refer to the user's manual of your phone.

Controller for Symbian consists of 2 parts: Application running on the PC. The same application is used to connect to all supported phones. You only need to install this application once. Application running on the phone. There are different applications based on the UI platform the phone is using. Installing Controller for Symbian: Install Laplink_Controller_for_Symbian_3.1.##.exe on your PC. NOTE If you do not have Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed, use Laplink_Controller_for_Symbian_JRE_3.1.##.exe instead. A shortcut to the folder containing the installation packages (.SIS files) for the phone can be found on your desktop.

Laplink Controller for Symbian Updating an Existing Version
If you have Controller for Symbian version 3.x already installed on your PC and you want to update to a newer version, please proceed as follows: 1 If you have added new skins to Controller for Symbian or modified existing skins, make a copy of the data\controller\skins subdirectory and of SkinManager.properties file. 2 Make sure you have uninstalled any previous version of Controller for Symbian from the PC. Install the new Controller_for Symbian_3.1.##.exe on your PC. 3 Install the new.SIS package to your phone. Make sure that you install the correct version of the file. 3 Select connect and choose one of the following connection types

Bluetooth Device will connect to a PC using Bluetooth Serial Port. Make sure that Bluetooth Serial Port service is enable on the PC. Also make sure that you have enable Bluetooth on your phone.
USB (DKU-2) Device will connect to the PC using USB cable. Make sure you have the correct cable drivers installed in your PC. This option is available only on selected phone models.
First-time Use of Controller for Symbian
1 Start Controller for Symbian on the PC. Controller for Symbian will now wait for devices to connect. If you want to connect multiple devices at the same time, you need to start another instance of Controller for Symbian on the PC for each device connected. 2 Start Connect on the Symbian Device. The application is identified by the following icon:

4 Choose continue. The device will now connect to PC. After the connection is established you will see phone's screen on the PC. Now you can use the phone normally. 5 Closing the connection: From Connect on the device select disconnect. In case of problems please refer to Troubleshooting on page 8.
Activating Laplink Controller for Symbian
When first installed, Controller for Symbian runs in trial mode with following limitations: Controller for Symbian Trial mode bitmap always shown Key & mouse events are not transmitted from PC to phone Connection will be closed by the phone after 2 minutes. 4
To use all features of Controller for Symbian, you need to purchase a license. Licensing is based on your phone's serial number (IMEI) and a license is needed for each phone Controller for Symbian is used on. If you don't have a license yet, contact controller-for-symbian@laplink.com for details on how to purchase a license. When you try to connect Controller for Symbian to the PC you will be asked your activation code. After entering the correct code, Controller for Symbian will be running in full mode. Capturing a Still Image

With Controller for Symbian you can save screenshots from your phone to your PC. To take a screenshot, select Capture>Still image. from the menu. The screenshot is taken when you select the menu item and will be saved in PNG format.

Capturing a Video Stream

With Controller for Symbian you can also record a video from the phone. This feature can be used to, e.g. record a demonstration of a certain application. To start recording a movie select Capture>Start video capture from the menu. Recording will start after you have selected a location where to store the video. The video is stored in AVI format. To stop recording select Capture>Stop video capture.

Control your Phone from the PC
You can control your phone from the PC using the keyboard and mouse. Please note that mouse events are available only on certain devices. In trial mode, you cannot control your phone from the PC. Mouse: Usage of the mouse is possible on devices that support mouse events. This includes UIQ phones, Nokia 7710 and the web-browser in Series 80 devices.
Laplink Controller for Symbian PC Settings
Color Depth Using this setting you can control the amount of colors or shades of grey used to display the image on the PC. The lower the amount of colors, the faster the image can be usually transferred from the phone to the PC. NOTE If there is not enough memory available to activate a certain color mode, the previously selected mode stays active. Skins Controller for Symbian comes with predefined skins for various phones. However you can add your own skins to Controller for Symbian in a very simple way. Skins are stored in \data\controller\skins subdirectory of Controller for Symbian installation. Skins are made available based on the screen resolution of the device. To create a new skin it is easiest to start by copying the information from an existing skin for your phone. A skin consists of two files: An image file (supported formats: PNG, GIF, JPEG) A skin description file (.skin). This is a text file with various settings. Each setting has a name and a value. The name is separated from the value using ": "

Installing Applications to Your Phone
You can use Controller for Symbian to install new applications (.SIS files) to your phone. For the installation proceed as follows: 1 Make sure you have connected your phone to Controller for Symbian 2 Select File>Install Software. from the menu and locate the.SIS file you wish to install 3 The file is now transferred to the phone. Depending on the connection and the size of the file this operation can take some time. 4 Wait until the file has been uploaded and the application installer is started. You should see a screen similar to the one below:
Now you can install the software in the usual way. NOTE Controller for Symbian copies the installation file to c:\LaplinkController on your phone. Please make sure that there is enough free memory in your phone. The file is automatically removed if the installation succeeds, otherwise you can remove the file yourself using a File Manager. WINDOW SIZE When you resize the window the contents will be scaled according to the following settings: Keep aspect ratio: Scales the image so that aspect ratio (width/height) stays the same. This avoids images being stretched unproportional. High quality zoom: Applies a special effect, so that large images look clearer, this is especially useful when the image contains a lot of text. Note: This feature is not supported by all graphic cards. Fit window: Restores the window size to be equal to the phone's display size.

Laplink Controller for Symbian Troubleshooting Installation
Controller for Symbian has been tested with Java Runtime Environment (JRE) v. 1.4.x. If Controller for Symbian does not work with your currently installed JRE or if you don't have JRE installed in your computer you can download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) v. 1.4.x. from the www.sun.com website: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html allow the phone to access the PC's Bluetooth Serial Port service. Flight mode: If your phone is in flight mode, Bluetooth will not be available on the phone Turn on Bluetooth: Make sure Bluetooth is turned on both on the phone and on the PC. Other software: Make sure no other software (e.g. PC Suite) is using Bluetooth.

USB Cable Connection

If you are having trouble connecting via USB cable, please check the following: Supported phones: USB Cable connection is currently supported only for Nokia Phones and requires the DKU-2 USB Cable. Correct drivers: Make sure you have installed the latest drivers for the cable from your device manufacturer's web-site. Cable: Make sure that the cable is properly attached to the Phone and the PC.

Bluetooth Connection

If you are having trouble establishing a Bluetooth connection between your phone and Controller for Symbian, please check the following. Compatible BT device: Controller for Symbian only works with devices based on BT specification v 1.1 and later. If you have an older device, Controller for Symbian might not work. Bluetooth Serial Port service: Please check that Bluetooth Serial Port Service is defined for incoming connections and that it is enabled. Pair devices: Before using Controller for Symbian, you should pair the phone and the PC and automatically
