Competitive Face-off Xerox WorkCentre 3550 vs. Lexmark X364dn
The WorkCentre 3550 offers more value through superior productivity features, a robust design and the tools needed in todays office.
WorkCentre 3550 advantages:
Superior productivity Greater ease-of-use Better scanning Xerox Total Satisfaction Guarantee
Smaller scan files mean greater office productivity
The WorkCentre 3550 incorporates compression technology that reduces scan file sizes without affecting image quality. This file-size advantage allows users to create and distribute high-resolution scanned images that contain both text and graphical elements without consuming excessive network bandwidth. By contrast, the Lexmark device doesnt adequately compress a scanned image, resulting in greater strain on network bandwidth. In addition, the Lexmark X364 only allows documents to be scanned in color or gray scale; resulting in very large file sizes for monochrome documents. The WorkCentre 3550 gives users the option to scan in color, grayscale, or monochrome; providing less stress on network bandwidth.
Faster scanning keeps the office efficient
Creating digital files from paper originals is an integral part of the everyday workflow in offices, and the WorkCentre 3550 does so with ease. Whether scanning a single page color document, or a multiple page monochrome file, the WorkCentre 3550 runs circles around the Lexmark X364 which means your office stays productive.

Xerox WorkCentre 3550 vs. Lexmark X364dn
Key features enable greater workplace performance
The WorkCentre 3550 was designed to be shared by work teams, and as such, provides several strategic features to streamline copy, print, fax, and scan work processes. The perfect balance of productivity and ease-of-use, the WorkCentre 3550 multifunction printer will help regain time spent each day on document-related tasks. Print Around The Xerox Print Around feature is a huge productivity booster that allows queued jobs to print, even if one is held up in need of resources. For example, if a user sends a print job requesting legal-size media and there is none in the paper tray, the WorkCentre 3550 will hold that job and continue printing other jobs in the queue. When legal-size media is later inserted, the held job will be printed. The Lexmark X364 does not support Intelligent Job Waiting; which means the machine will come to a halt when it encounters a job needing resources. Advanced fax capabilities The WorkCentre 3550 gives the office superior fax resources, including LAN fax from the PC, embedded fax, and vital fax-forwarding options. Users can receive important fax files electronically, saving the trip to the machine; and sending a fax is as easy as selecting file/print on the PC. Faxes can be stored securely on a server, sent to various fax folders, and if security is needed, the Secure Fax Receive function means only the intended recipient will see the document. The Lexmark X364 does not support fax-forward to email or storage to a server; it forwards the fax to another fax machine. Intuitive control panel, large user interface, and legal platen The WorkCentre 3550 makes it easy for users walking up to the machine; navigation of the menu structure is intuitive and commonly used functions are only a level or two deep. The display is a large, 4-line back-lit LCD with easy-to-read text. In addition, the platen is legal-size, giving users the ability to scan legal pages from binders or other media that cannot be fed through the document feeder.

Scan-to-USB

Although both the WorkCentre 3550 and Lexmark X364 offer scan-to and print-from USB, the WorkCentre 3550 gives users the ability to manage files on the USB drive (delete and format), check available space to ensure their file will fit, and perform other menu operations while the USB drive is inserted. In contrast, the Lexmark X364 does not give users the ability to manage files on their USB drive, and none of the control panel buttons work until the USB drive is removed no copying, faxing, or menu access can occur when the USB drive is connected.
WorkCentre 3550 USB menu options.
Lexmark X364dn does not provide menu options.

Better copy quality

The images below compare copy quality of the WorkCentre 3550 to the Lexmark X364dn. The WorkCentre 3550 has crisper text while the Lexmark X364dn demonstrates poor image quality.

PostScript envelope tray support
If manualfeed in statusdict and the ManualFeed page device parameter are false when the printer receives one of the envelopetray operators listed in Envelopetray operator selections on page 15, then the printer:
Sets the PageSize Policy to 0. Checks the active source to see if it matches the requested envelope size. If the sizes match, the envelope is fed
from the active source. Note: The active source is the last source selected from the printer control panel or data stream.
If the requested size and the size loaded in the active source do not match, the sources are searched in the order
defined by the Priority array in the InputAttributes dictionary in the pagedevice dictionary.
If the requested media size is not found by the previous search, the following search order is used: Envelope Feeder Multipurpose Feeder If the requested size and type are not available from any automatic source, you are prompted to load the requested
envelope size and type in the manual feed source. If the size is still not available, a configurationerror is issued and the print job is flushed. If manualfeed or ManualFeed is true, the printer prompts you to load the requested size manually. If no manual feed exists on the printer, a rangecheck error message is generated The envelope tray the printer selects when it receives an envelopetray operator is listed in Envelopetray operator selections on page 15. These operators are equivalent to executing the following PostScript emulation sequence: <</PageSize [x y] /ImagingBBox null /Policies<</PageSize 0>> >> setpagedevice where x y are the PageSize in points.
