Robust job queue and Print Around
Job queue The WorkCentre 6400 was designed to be shared by workteams and as such, provides a robust job queue with full visibility of active and completed jobs, including job owner, job name and job status. It also allows users to cancel, hold, promote and delete jobs at will; eliminating frequent trips back and forth to the device by users who are waiting for their jobs to print. Print Around The Xerox Print Around feature is a huge productivity booster that allows queued jobs to print, even if one is held up in need of resources. For example, if a user sends a print job requesting legal-size media and there is none in the paper tray, the WorkCentre 6400 will hold that job and continue printing other jobs in the queue. When legal-size media is later inserted, the held job will be printed.

Scan templates

The WorkCentre 6400 employs scan templates that allow users to scan images to predefined locations. Templates are created with CentreWare Internet Services and permanently stored on the device for convenient, touch-screen access. By contrast, the Lexmark X738de incorporates web-based scan profiles that are available only for the duration of the web browser session, making them impractical to share. This effectively limits its use as an office productivity booster as users must recreate new scan profiles each time they close a browser or reboot the computer.

The Lexmark X738de has a job queue, but users can view only 3 queued jobs at once, and job deletion is the only option for queue management. Also, When the Lexmark X738de encounters a job in need of resources, its Intelligent Job Waiting feature generates a 30-second error message that effectively disables the device. When printing resumes, the problem job is routed to a special held jobs queue that can be a challenge for users to locate. Furthermore, when the X738de runs out of paper during a job, it will not continue with other queued jobs until the first job is complete. For example, if the manual feed tray is configured for legal-size paper and runs out during a print job, the letter-size print jobs are also stopped until legal-size media is loaded this brings office productivity to a standstill.

Lexmark job queue only shows up to 3 jobs per function. Note all functions come to a stop after a job is sent asking for media that isnt currently loaded!

The WorkCentre 6400 and Lexmark X738de both feature a color touch screen that allows convenient access to copy, fax and scan-to-email features from the home window. However, when Lexmark users select a feature, such as Copy, they are presented with a cluttered submenu that makes routine adjustments more confusing and timely than with the Xerox device. These ease-of-use differences can manifest into huge bottlenecks or productivity gains when you consider that both devices will be shared by a small workteam or large department.
