General Soldering Guidelines 1. Use a grounded-tip, low-wattage soldering iron and appropriate tip size and shape that will maintain tip temperature within the range or 500 F to 600 F. 2. Use an appropriate gauge of RMA resin-core solder composed of 60 parts tin/40 parts lead. 3. Keep the soldering iron tip clean and well tinned. 4. Thoroughly clean the surfaces to be soldered. Use a mall wire-bristle (0.5 inch, or 1.25cm) brush with a metal handle. Do not use freon-propelled spray-on cleaners. 5. Use the following unsoldering technique a. Allow the soldering iron tip to reach normal temperature. (500 F to 600 F) b. Heat the component lead until the solder melts. c. Quickly draw the melted solder with an anti-static, suction-type solder removal device or with solder braid. CAUTION: Work quickly to avoid overheating the circuitboard printed foil. 6. Use the following soldering technique. a. Allow the soldering iron tip to reach a normal temperature (500 F to 600 F) b. First, hold the soldering iron tip and solder the strand against the component lead until the solder melts. c. Quickly move the soldering iron tip to the junction of the component lead and the printed circuit foil, and hold it there only until the solder flows onto and around both the component lead and the foil. CAUTION: Work quickly to avoid overheating the circuit board printed foil. d. Closely inspect the solder area and remove any excess or splashed solder with a small wire-bristle brush. IC Remove/Replacement Some chassis circuit boards have slotted holes (oblong) through which the IC leads are inserted and then bent flat against the circuit foil. When holes are the slotted type, the following technique should be used to remove and replace the IC. When working with boards using the familiar round hole, use the standard technique as outlined in paragraphs 5 and 6 above. Removal 1. Desolder and straighten each IC lead in one operation by gently prying up on the lead with the soldering iron tip as the solder melts. 2. Draw away the melted solder with an anti-static suction-type solder removal device (or with solder braid) before removing the IC.
Replacement 1. Carefully insert the replacement IC in the circuit board. 2. Carefully bend each IC lead against the circuit foil pad and solder it. 3. Clean the soldered areas with a small wire-bristle brush. (It is not necessary to reapply acrylic coating to the areas). "Small-Signal" Discrete Transistor Removal/Replacement 1. Remove the defective transistor by clipping its leads as close as possible to the component body. 2. Bend into a "U" shape the end of each of three leads remaining on the circuit board. 3. Bend into a "U" shape the replacement transistor leads. 4. Connect the replacement transistor leads to the corresponding leads extending from the circuit board and crimp the "U" with long nose pliers to insure metal to metal contact then solder each connection. Power Output, Transistor Device Removal/Replacement 1. Heat and remove all solder from around the transistor leads. 2. Remove the heat sink mounting screw (if so equipped). 3. Carefully remove the transistor from the heat sink of the circuit board. 4. Insert new transistor in the circuit board. 5. Solder each transistor lead, and clip off excess lead. 6. Replace heat sink. Diode Removal/Replacement 1. Remove defective diode by clipping its leads as close as possible to diode body. 2. Bend the two remaining leads perpendicular y to the circuit board. 3. Observing diode polarity, wrap each lead of the new diode around the corresponding lead on the circuit board. 4. Securely crimp each connection and solder it. 5. Inspect (on the circuit board copper side) the solder joints of the two "original" leads. If they are not shiny, reheat them and if necessary, apply additional solder. Fuse and Conventional Resistor Removal/Replacement 1. Clip each fuse or resistor lead at top of the circuit board hollow stake. 2. Securely crimp the leads of replacement component around notch at stake top. 3. Solder the connections. CAUTION: Maintain original spacing between the replaced component and adjacent components and the circuit board to prevent excessive component temperatures.

3D Noise Reduction
While XD Engine 2005 was limited to noise reduction within only the current frame, XD Engine 2006 is now able to apply a 3-step algorithm that allows for more detailed control. This function goes hand in hand with the noise reduction step that is taken during Sharpness Enhancement. This 3-step algorithm enables image noise reduction to be applied to the previous and next frame as it works on the current frame.
HD Scaling Function Low Resolution to High Resolution
HD Scaling Function is a technology that successfully converts low resolution analog images into high resolution HD images. Whenever a picture is transmitted via SD signal or analog broadcast of low resolution, LGs unique 3-tier algorithm scales the image accordingly to generate a clear and realistic image. This type of technology eliminates any awkward transitions between different images and colors and cleans up fuzzy images.
Noise reduction by data analysis within current frame
Before
XD Engine 2005 -2-Step Noise Reduction Noise reduction by data analysis within current frames and data anlysis of previous and next frames provide a better flow of images
Sharpness Enhancement
XD Engine adapts the picture according to the input signal and images brightness in order to achieve optimal sharpness enhancement, while simultaneously working to eliminate the image noise that results as a side effect. A B
Gray Scale
XD Engine -3-Step Noise Reduction
XD Engine enhances the clarity of the edge between dark and bright areas by optimizing the sharpness levels according to the brightness level of the picture.
Natural & Emotional Color Embodiment
Whats the difference? Like the equalizer of an audio system, this function helps control images to produce images that possess the appropriate color and feel. Skin color is represented more naturally, greens are greener and blues are bluer.
Hue & Saturation Control
100% Natural Color Embodiment As represented on the UV (color element that excludes brightness from the signal) plot, hue & saturation control assigns domains for skin tones, greens, and blues. Thereafter, this function coordinates each color with a suitable hue & saturation level to yield the most natural skin tone, the greenest green and the bluest blue.
Color Temperature Control
An emotional representation of colors. As represented on the UV (color element that excludes brightness from the signal) plot, colors are separated according to which domain they are closest to. After the division, each domains appropriate color temperature, in other words, feel, is adjusted to match the image.
CONTRAST
Dynamic Contrast
XD Engine expands the controllable range of contrast so it can produce an optimized image for both the bright and dark areas of each picture frame.
XD Engine 2005 - Focus on certain critical areas of the picture frame. XD Engine - Normalizes overall picture frame data
XD Engine 2005 controls bright and dark areas of images individually because the number of control points is limited.
XD Engine 2006 controls contrast of the overall picture frame by increasing the number of control poins in order to produce a more bright, delicate and detailed image.

GRADUATION
A detailed color image reproduction
Brightenss 121 122
Brightenss
122 Input
8bit Processing - 0 ~ 255 grades of brightness 10 bit Processing - 0 ~ 1023 grades of brightness
Whats the difference? This function is related to a signals bit count. The larger the bit count, the higher the color quality and brighter the image. As a result, details are more clearly visible and color reproduction on the screen is more natural. (For Plasmas especially, the low brightness graded domains that were difficult to see are more smooth with the 10 bit processing.) Ghost-shaped image noise blurs that are generated from folded Sub Fields within images, bluntness and dullness of images, and oversaturated images are all eliminated by this function.
CINEMA
Smooth & natural motion picture
Whats the difference? Motion picture films run at 24 frames per second, whereas TV shows are broadcast at a rate of 30 frames per second. As a result, when a movie is played on a TV, 6 frames are forcibly added per second, but as this occurs, the final image that appears is distorted. This subfunction detects the additional 6 frames and eliminates them. This process allows the picture to revert back to its original quality so that it is possible to enjoy movie quality images on TV. (50Hz : 2-2 pull down, 60Hz : 3-2 pull down)
2 : 2 or 3 : 2 Pull Down Technique In order to transfer movie films (24 frames per second) into the TV screen (25 or 30 frames per second), extra frames must be produced and added. Such transfer technique is called 3 : 2 Pull-Down' and it cuts the frames into 3, 2, 3, 2, 3 sequence.
4. Record from external input:
You can record from external inputs such as camcorders, satellite and Cable STB.
- Record video and audio signal input through composite jack : STB (Satellite, Cable), DVD, game devices, etc. - Avoid CP by downgrading HD contents to 480i format - Time-shift for external input sources (on Phase II)
5. Commercial Skip:
Using the Smart Skip function while watching your recorded program allows you to skip commercials in 20-second intervals (Intervals can be adjusted manually). Record from external input

CLEAR FILTER
Advantage
- Enhanced picture quality through the usage of CLEAR FILTER - Improvement of color purity, increase of contrast ratio by 20%, and brightness by 5% - Slimmer and lighter with CLEAR FILTER - SET width 10mm, weight 5kg decrease
Whats the difference?
Conventional
Clear Filter
If you direct a laser pointer on a CLEAR FILTER screen, only a single spot appears without double image. However, on a conventional screen two spots appear due to the internal mirror reflection.
Placing a paper on the screen is also a good way to discern the difference between a CLEAR FILTER screen and a conventional screen. With CLEAR FILTER, images can be seen through the paper whereas with conventional screens, images are blurred and unclear because of the air gap between glass and module.
CLEAR FILTER enhances viewing angle up to more than 160 degrees by eliminating double images.
Try knocking on the CLEAR FILTER screen. You will hear a solid sound that proves there is no air gap. However, with a conventional glass screen, vibrated sound comes out due to the air gap resulting in internal reflection.
X STUDIO
Simple and easy X STUDIO
X STUDIO makes various compatible memory cards conveniently available. By inserting them into the slots, you can enjoy photos, movies, moving pictures, and music on big a screen with better sound system. Keep valuable memory of your life, simply.
