DEFINITIONS
Luminous flux (Lm) the total power of light emitted from a source Luminous intensity (cd) is a measure of the wavelength-weighted power emitted by a light source in a particular direction determined by a solid angle. Based on the luminous intensity illumination angle (curve) for a luminaire is created. Illuminance E (lx) is the total luminous flux incident on a surface sent from a luminaire. Luminance L (cd/m2) describes the amount of light that passes through or is emitted from a particular area, and falls within a given solid angle. Luminance is thus an indicator of how bright the surface will appear. Even the source of light has its luminance since light is always sent from a particular surface if the surface is small enough the luminance is of high value (dazzling effect). Photometric curve is a graph which visualizes the junction of the points indicating the luminous intensity distributed in every direction by a light source determining the solid angle. The solid angle intersected with the planes creates the photometric curves. Photometric curves can be illustrated utilizing polar or cartesian graphs. Color rendering index (Ra) is a quantitative measure of the ability of a light source to reproduce the colors of various objects faithfully. The maximum value is 100 and is a value of sunlight (10080 very good, 8060 good, sufficient). Color temperature is a characteristic of visible light. The temperature is conventionally stated in units of absolute temperature, Kelvin (K), e.g. the temperature of a cold daylight is 6500 K, of a candle 1800 K and of a lightbulb 2700 K. Contrast (K) is the difference in appearance of two or more parts of a field seen simultaneously or successively. The luminance contrast is the ratio between the higher luminance, LH, and the lower luminance, LL K=[(LH-LL)/ LL] or K=(LH/LL) Equal illuminance is a ratio between minimum illuminance and average illuminance in a questioned field (=Emin/Emed or sometimes =Emin/Emax ). Equal luminance is a ratio between minimum luminance and average luminance in a questioned field (=Lmin/Lmed or sometimes =Lmin/Lmax).
