LG ELECTRONICS INTRODUCES NEW HIGH SPEED COMBINATION CD-RW/DVD-ROM DRIVE June 2, 2003 LG Electronics has announced the introduction of the LG Combination CD-RW/DVD-ROM Drive model GCC-4520B. The new LG GCC-4520B features high speed 52X CD-R writing, 24X CD-RW rewriting, 52X max CD-ROM reading and 16X max DVDROM reading. It reads all major CD formats and can also read the major DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW formats. A standard half-height internal drive design, the GCC-4520B uses the standard E-IDE/ATAPI interface used in the majority of todays PCs. Available in June, the estimated retail price of the GCC-4520B is $109.95 The GCC-4520Bs integration of functions of a typical CD-RW drive together with the functions of a DVD-ROM drive have a number of benefits. The typical PC has 2 IDE connectors for internal drives, allowing a maximum of 4 devices. The combination GCC4520B only uses one IDE connector, freeing up space for other devices. The same is true for the limited drive bays on the front of todays PCs, with the GCC-4520B doing double duty with only one drive bay. The LG GCC-4520B comes hot on the heels of the popular GCC-4480B, which was named PC World Magazines Best Buy in the June 2003 issue, as well as winning the PC World 2003 World Class Award for best CD-RW Drive listed in the July 2003 issue of PC World Magazine. Installation of the new GCC-4520B is quick and easy, and is compatible with Windows XP, 2000, 98SE and ME. Incorporating buffer underrun error prevention technology and optimized recording speed for each media used, writing to discs is always accurate and swift. The GCC-4520B has fast UDMA33 data transfer, and is also Mount Rainier compliant for true drag and drop file copying. The retail kit GCC-4520B comes with Ahead Softwares Nero CD recording and authoring software and Cyberlinks PowerDVD MPEG-2 software application for playing DVD movies. A two-drive E-IDE cable, audio cable and instructions are also supplied.
