WHITE PAPER: DIRECTV STANDALONE OPERATION IN COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS
The delivery of high-quality digital signals to bars, restaurants, hotel rooms and arenas is a high growth area that many companies are entering. Delivery of digital signals is more complex than the delivery of analog signals. Digital rights management including authorizations and license agreements are as important to your success as supplying power or mounting brackets. The teams at LG Electronics and its U.S. R&D subsidiary Zenith have created a number of products as well as training materials to help assure your success. What do you need to make the Pro:Idiom DIRECTV system work if you dont have a PPV provider? 1. Television with the commercial feature set. Specially designed commercial TVs are the only units that support the required hardware for standalone operation. 2. HCS6000R DIRECTV transcoder. Unlike a traditional analog DIRECTV receiver, the HCS6000R transcoder is sold without a conditional access module (CAM). You must agree to several conditions imposed by the content providers designed to protect their content from unauthorized copy and theft of service in order to obtain the right to operate a HCS6000R transcoder. 3. Pro:Idiom transcoder license. This license is free and allows the licensee to operate the HCS6000R in return for agreeing to perform key renewals in the event of a Pro:Idiom security breach. If you are a system integrator and you are selling this product to the end user, you must have the customer take a license before you can legally sell the HCS6000R. This license is available from Zenith, LGE and DIRECTV. Contact your sales person for details. Without having this license on file Zenith/DIRECTV cannot issue you a CAM card. 4. HCT1201 encryption/decryption card. For proper operation you must configure and install an HCT1201 card into each commercial TV set that you wish to receive encrypted content. This card works together with the HCS6000R to fulfill the requirements of the Pro:Idiom transcoder license. In addition, this card allows for channel mapping, icon- and channellabeling as well as other commercial features. If you do not have a configured HCT1201 card in the MPI slot, the system will not work
