XD Engine is LGs special Digital image generating chip. This latest release has been re-engineered to give truly realistic high definition images.
The image above shows the optimal screen image produced using the XD Engine processes.

XD Engine

CrystalVue
CrystalVue improves picture quality by a new improved three stage process. 1. A technology that eliminates noise (Noise Reduction). XD Engine 2005 was limited to noise reduction within only the current frame. XD Engine 2006 is now able to apply a 3-Step control mechanism by data analysis of the current, previous and next frame which allows for an improved flow of images. 2. A technology that effectively converts low resolution images into high resolution images to fit the screen size (HD Scaling). This technology ties in with the noise reduction process where the 3-Step control mechanism scales the image accordingly to fit the screen whilst generating a clear and realistic image. 3. The new signal then increases in clarity by emphasizing edges and shapes (Edge Enhancement). The end result of this is the edges are clearer and the images more distinct.

PurePalette

Like the equaliser of an audio system, PurePalette automatically controls images to reproduce the most natural skin tones and colours of any scene whilst maintaining a bright and vibrant picture.

ContrastPRO

with CrystalVue This technology analyses the input signal and optimises the contrast by making dark areas darker and bright areas brighter. without CrystalVue The New XD Engine controls contrast of overall picture frame through the APL (Average Picture Level), each images Dynamic Range is identified and extended to produce a more bright, delicate and detailed image.

VistaBright

Video signals vary in quality and standard; VistaBright accurately measures input signal and optimises it to produce the best levels of brightness and contrast.

OptiGrade

This technology offers a more detailed colour image reproduction. The larger the bit count, the higher the colour quality. As a result, details are more clearly visible and colour reproduction on the screen is more natural. This process occurs by the increasing number of steps from dark to light; standard 8-bit processing only offers 256 grades of brightness for each primary colour (Red, Green and Blue). OptiGrade improves this processing to 10-bit, which offers 1024 grades for each primary colour. This corresponds to an increase in the number of possible colours from 16 million colours to a massive 1.07 billion colours.

Double Window

Similar to PIP functionality, Double Window offers users the ability to display two video signals on the screen at one time, side by side. Users can freely switch between each window with the remote control.

(Base Booster Effect)

LG LCD TVs use technologically advanced Super IPS LCD panels. These panels offer several advantages over alternative LCD panel types: Very wide viewing angle with consistent colour reproduction Fast response times Reliable and stronger LCD panels with less damage caused by touching the screen
Traditional audio systems can struggle to accurately reproduce the original live recorded bass sounds, BBE works to improve this reproduction and provide reinforced strong bass sound when watching TV or listening to music.
Surround Max 3D Digital Comb Filter
Creates a 3-Dimensional enhanced sound effect by concentrating on the sounds from each left and right channel. It also works to give mono sound a special feel.
A comb filter is needed with many video sources to separate the colour from the brightness signals inside the TV. The 3D Digital Comb Filter used in LG TVs separates these signals clearly using a digital process eliminating edge crawls and rainbow effects. At the same time whilst extending the resolution and clearly separating colour boundaries and making images softer and cleaner.

SRS TruSurround XT

Video signals come in many different aspect ratios, 4:3, 16:9, 2.35: for example, LG TVs come with many options to make the most of these aspect ratios and ensure that you enjoy them on your 16:9 display.
TruSurround XT is a patented technology from SRS which provides an improved listening experience by providing the perception of deep rich 3D sound from a stereo speaker system.
