3. Mounting

The TVSS needs to be mounted to a solid, flat vertical surface capable of supporting 35 pounds (180N). Note: Do not use the mounting lugs to make the safety and protection ground.

4. Grounding

Ground connection is made to the ground terminal mounted on the inside of the Rayvoss enclosure. The connection should be made by a short and straight cable to the power ground or to the main ground bar at the installation location.

5. Connecting Cables

Installation and working practices should conform to the National Electrical Code of the USA or appropriate local electrical codes.
Wiring for In-Line Connection
This is the preferred configuration for installation. In this connection type, the protected load or protected sub-panel is fed directly from the TVSS. The overcurrent protector and conductors, which feed the TVSS, must be sized appropriately to accommodate the load currents and lightning surges. Any disconnector used before the TVSS should be capable of disconnecting normal load current as well as handling lightning surge currents. Rayvoss XXX - 1P - M X - 2 - XX X
Rayvoss XXX - 2S - M X - 2 - XX X
Rayvoss XXX - 1P - M X - 3 - XX X
Rayvoss XXX - 2S - M X - 3 - XX X
Wiring for Parallel or "T" Connection
This connection method constitutes a branch circuit protecting a distribution panel and its loads. However, due to the added voltages developed in the connecting conductors during a surge, it does not provide the best level of protection to the load. For this connection use as short and straight as possible cables to connect the Rayvoss to existing feeder cables or-bus bars, without breaking the feed to the load. Rayvoss XXX - 1P - M X - 2 - XX X
6. Powering up the Rayvoss TVSS unit Close the housing door, and turn the latch one quarter of a turn clockwise with a suitable screwdriver. Warning: the Rayvoss TVSS contains live parts inside the cabinet, for example bus bars, connectors, etc. Do not come in contact with these, as there is a danger of electrocution. 7. Optional Features Option 05: Pick up coils Pick up coils are provided on the protection modules so that an external surge counter may be installed. Option 06: Phase indication LEDs and Remote relays Normal operation is indicated by the illumination of green lights. In the event of a fault or loss of power, the respective LEDs will go OFF. There are also dry contacts (form 1C) available which can be connected to a remote alarm system. Option 08: Phase indication LEDs, Remote relays and Pick up coils This is a combination of options 05 and 06. Installation Of Remote Surge Counter Mount the remote counter unit near the Rayvoss. Plug the DB9 connecting cable to the respective plug at the lower side of the Rayvoss box and to the remote counter (connecting cable length is 10ft/3m). Plug the power supply unit of the remote counter to a 120-240VAC outlet. Connect the 24VDC plug of the power supply unit to the remote counter.

3. Mounting

The TVSS needs to be mounted to a solid, flat vertical surface capable of supporting 70 pounds (350N). It is convenient to install the lower mounting studs/bolts first as the TVSS has slotted lower mounting lugs. Once the lower studs/bolts are installed, the TVSS may be lowered onto them and the correct location for the upper mounting studs/bolts can be marked through the holes in the upper mounting lugs.

However, due to the added voltages developed in the connecting conductors during a surge, it does not provide the best level of protection to the load. For this connection use as short and straight as possible cables to connect the Rayvoss to existing feeder cables or-bus bars, without breaking the feed to the load. 6. Powering up the Rayvoss TVSS unit
Close the housing door, and turn the latch one quarter of a turn clockwise with a suitable screwdriver. Warning: the Rayvoss TVSS contains live parts inside the cabinet, for example bus bars, connectors, etc. Do not come in contact with these, as there is a danger of electrocution.

7. Optional Features

Option 03: Surge counter, Phase indication LEDs and Remote relays Normal operation is indicated by the illumination of three green phase lights and no alarm lights. In the event of a fault, (i.e. loss of power, loss of a phase), a series of indicators will
identify the type of fault. There is also an audible alarm, which may be disabled by depressing a switch located on the control board. The surge counter system used in the Rayvoss TVSS increments when a current has been diverted through the Strikesorb protector modules in the event of an overvoltage condition. The surge counter system will detect "positive" or "negative" surges, transients, or other conditions that cause the protector modules to operate. Two sets (A & B) of voltage free contacts are provided. The "normal" condition indicates presence of all 3 phases or complete loss of all 3 phases. The "energized" condition indicates loss of any one or two phases. Terminals 1-3 correspond to set of contacts A. Terminal 1 is the common, terminal 2 is normally closed and terminal 3 is normally open. Terminals 4-6 correspond to set of contacts B. Terminal 6 is the common, terminal 5 is normally closed and terminal 4 is normally open.
Option 05: Pick up coils Pick up coils are provided on the protection modules so that an external surge counter may be installed.
