Caution: this is not an ATAPI/IDE drive! This drive has a SATA interface, but this is not clearly stated in the description. A pleasure to use Since purchasing this product, I have been burning many CDs and DVDs without issue.

Samsung External DVD Writer I was disappointed with the quality of this DVD Writer and although it was cheap in price did not come up to expectation. Not the fastest but easy to use A little faster and would should have been 5 stars. Neat, easy to store or carry.

This unit seems to do all that is is supposed to do. Because it is SATA I did have a problem getting it to work in my PC. Easy installation, quick burning performance, quiet Slightly more expensive.

KFBG Sustainable Procurement Guideline
Introduction 1.1 Purpose of Sustainable Procurement Many environmental problems do not have direct specific causes but rather indirect effects of economic activity and our daily mass production, mass consumption and mass waste disposal have gradually accumulated and imposed a heavy environmental impact that is unsustainable. To solve contemporary environmental problems and preserve valuable natural resources for our future generations, every member of our society must take action, reconsider our economic system and lifestyles, and create a society that pursues sustainable development with reduced environmental impacts and minimize our ecological footprints. Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden Corporations long-term vision is to help create a world without environmental crisis, in which conservation of the natural heritage and sustainable living enable people to live in contentment, with respect for each other and nature. In response to the situation, we have to consider the impacts of our procurement activities. Sustainable procurement is also about setting an example and influencing the society. By promoting sustainable procurement, the Farm and the society can provide industry with real incentives for developing sustainable technologies. Finally, if life cycle costs of a contract are considered, sustainable procurement allows the Farm to save money and protect the environment at the same time by minimizing the Life Cycle Costs. By purchasing wisely, the Farm can save materials and energy, reduce waste and pollution, and encourage sustainable patterns of behaviour. The Sustainable Procurement Guideline is intended as a reference guide to enhance fairness with respect to social, economical and environmental requirements in ALL procurement process at Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden Corporation (KFBGC). It summarizes the considerations governing the procurement of goods, services and works by KFBGCs staff. 1.2 Scopes of Sustainable Procurement Sustainable Procurement in the Farm covers ALL procurement activities (goods, services and works). Some of the items include but not limited to the purchase of energy efficient computers and buildings/structures, office equipment made of environmental sustainable materials, recyclable paper, organic food/feed, electricity stemming from renewable energy sources, air conditional systems complying with state of the art environmental solutions.

Is this need really necessary?
What are the available options to meet the need? Does the selected option stand good for both efficiency (regarding the process) and effectiveness (with respect to the mission)?
Can a surplus or warehoused item be upgraded, repaired or refurbished to meet this need?
Can this need be fulfilled through borrowing or sharing with other department(s)?
Can this need be rented temporarily rather than purchased?
Further Procurement Process Not Proceed
Fig. 1 Justification Process for Procurement Needs After justification for the needs, it is user departments responsibility to choose suitable materials/suppliers/consultants/contractors based on the five rules of thumbs and other essential considerations such as technical issues and financial issues. It is encouraged to seek advice from Sustainability Officer for all procurement activities including construction projects and other purchasing especially when encountering ambiguity. Nevertheless, information such as materials, suppliers, design, etc. of every procurement activity is strongly encouraged to notify the Sustainability Officer (SO) although approval from SO is not required. From the information provided, SO may contact UD when potential negative impact may arise so as to rectify it at first instance. Subsequent workflow will follow the KFBGCs Procurement Policy.

Appendix A Guideline for choosing Environmental Preferred Goods and Services
These are goods and services which are designed to minimize the negative effects on the environment over their full life cycle production, use and disposal; make the most efficient use of materials, energy and water; and minimize the generation of waste and release of harmful substances into the environment. Basically, the five rules of thumb should be considered to make a balance to minimize ecological footprint: 1. 2. 3. Choose materials with high recycled content and itself/the waste generated can also be recycled easily Choose materials with low embodied energy (the energy to produce) Choose materials with consideration of whole life cycle, e.g. high durability so as to save subsequent material/energy in maintenance and/or replacement Choose materials manufactured from nearest location (smallest mileage) so as to lower the transportation energy Choose materials from suppliers with relevant green certificate so as to promote sustainable management/ production and minimize damage to communities
For construction projects, one additional rule could be considered as: Incorporate as much as sustainable elements such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting, natural ventilation to works such as new construction or renovation and design to minimize ecological footprint as far as practicable. The information provided in this Guideline is kept open. While it is aimed at to keep the content of the Guideline accurate and up to date, it is encouraged any staff to contact the author of this Guideline, the Sustainability Officer, if you have any concerns and suggestion about the information provided. Every effort will be made to correct any error and update any information once they are brought to attention.

(10) Trickle Valves Product Characteristics favourable: Product itself (a) Use 6 litres or less of water per flushing cycle (b) Favour products accompanied by consumer education outlining usage (c) Be accompanied by a reasonable warranty Packaging (a) Packaging materials shall be low environmental impact, e.g. not contain chlorine-based plastics Some of the available brands/suppliers:

C. Building Materials

(1) Water Based Paints
Product Characteristics favourable: Product itself (a) Not formulated or manufactured with formaldehyde (b) Not formulated or manufactured with halogenated solvents (c) Not formulated or manufactured with mercury or mercury compounds or are tinted with pigments of lead, cadmium or chromium VI (d) Have a flash point of 61.0 degrees centigrade or greater (e) Not be formulated or manufactured with aromatic hydrocarbons (f) Lead-free Packaging (a) Packaging materials shall not contain chlorine-based plastics Additional remarks: Water based paints should be given preference over oil paints because: l They contain smaller amounts of the non-renewable resource oil, and in some case none at all. l They contain less VOC (e.g. petroleum distillates) l They require only soap and water for clean up as opposed to solvents or turpentine Paint is considered an environmental risk as it contributes to smog as well as poses a health hazard during application. Some of the available brands/suppliers:

Solvent Based Paints

Product Characteristics favourable: Product itself (a) Not formulated or manufactured with formaldehyde (b) Not formulated or manufactured with mercury or mercury compounds or are tinted with pigments of lead, cadmium or chrome VI, and their oxides (c) Have a flash point of 37.8 degrees centigrade or greater (d) Not contain volatile organic compounds in excess of 380g/L (e) Not be formulated or manufactured with aromatic hydrocarbons in excess of 10% by weight (f) Not contain any halogenated solvent (g) Lead-free Packaging (a) Packaging materials shall be low environmental impact, e.g. not contain chlorine-based plastics Additional remarks: Paint contains a percentage of oil-based solvents. These solvents emit levels of VOCs, which are harmful to the environment as well as to human health during application. VOCs are much lower in water based (latex) paints than solvent based paints (alkyd).
