THE MS. JUNETEENTH PAGEANT
Saturday, June 3, 2011 marks the eighteenth anniversary of the Ms. Juneteenth Pageant. We invite young women between the ages of 14 and 18 years old to participate in this competition. The Ms. Juneteenth Pageant is an opportunity to highlight the participants academic achievements, recognize their positive contributions to the community, feature their talents and present the young ladies in a formal African American tradition to the community. Each contestant must submit a completed application along with the following information: 1. A 250 word essay on the question; What does Juneteenth means to me? 2. Proof of age (copy of photo ID with date of birth) 3. A copy of your most recent report card (Applicant must carry a minimum of a 2.5 GPA)
Contestants will compete in the following categories: 1. Poise and Personality 2. Talent (Creativity and Performance) 3. Evening Wear (Afro-Centric w/essay reading) 4. Interview Questions **Contestants will be competing for $3000.00 in cash, prizes and scholarships. ** Ms. Juneteenth continues to serve as an exceptional role model for Milwaukees youth. During her reign, she promotes positive images through school appearances, and community events. Serving as a great source of pride to our youth striving to realize their potential as future leaders, the Ms. Juneteenth pageant provides a positive experience for all contestants.
PAGEANT RULES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. CONTESTANTS MUST SUBMIT A 250 WORD ESSAY THAT FOCUSES ON THE THEME, WHAT DOEST JUNETEENTH DAY MEANS TO ME? ALL CONTESTANTS ARE REQUIRED TO UTILIZE THE CITY OF MILWAUKEE LIBRARY SYSTEM TO DEVELOP THEIR ESSAY. 2. CONTESTANTS ARE ALSO REQUIRED TO COMPLETE TWO ESSAYS ON THE MILWAUKEE BRONZEVILLE COMMUNITY AND AN INDIVIDUAL WHO PLAYED A VERY IMPORTANT PART IN THE FREE SLAVERY MOVEMENT. 3. CONTESTANTS MUST PROVIDE A CERTIFIED COPY OF THEIR BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND SCHOOL ID. 4. ALL CONTESTANTS MUST BE MILWAUKEE COUNTY RESIDENT FOR AT LEAST SIX MONTHS. 5. CONTESTANTS MUST HAVE AN UPSTANDING REPUTATION IN THE COMMUNITY AND NOT INVOLVED IN ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES, HAVE NO LEGAL ISSUES PENDING, HAVE NO CONVICTIONS OF MISDEMEANORS OR FELONIES. 6. CONTESTANTS MUST NOT HAVE A CHILD OR BE EXPECTING A CHILD SUBMITTING THE APPLICATION. APPLICANTS CANNOT BECOME PREGNANT DURING THEIR TITLE REIGN FROM 2011-2012. THIS WILL BE GROUNDS OF FORFEITURE OF HER CROWN AND THE FIRST RUNNER-UP WILL COMPLETE THE TERM. 7. CONTESTANTS ARE TO BE IN GOOD PHYSICAL HEALTH. IF A MEDICAL PROBLEM CURRENTLY EXISTS, PLEASE NOTIFY THE PAGEANT COORDINATOR AND MAKE A NOTE OF IT ON YOUR APPLICATION. 8. CONTESTANTS ARE TO NOTIFY THE PAGEANT COORDINATORS IF THERE IS ANY CHANGE OF ADDRESS OR ISSUES THAT MIGHT AFFECT THE PAGEANT. 9. CONTESTANTS ARE TO SELL A MINIMUM OF $50.00 OF ADVERTISEMENTS AND/OR TICKET SALES. 10. ALL CONTESTANTS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A MINIMUM GRADE POINT AVERAGE OF 2.5 OR HIGHER. 11. EACH CONTESTANT MUST SUBMIT A COMPLETED APPLICATION PACKET AND HAVE THE WRITTEN CONSENT (SIGNATURE) OF THEIR PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN BEFORE PARTICIPATING IN THE MS. JUNETEENTH PAGEANT. 12. ALL PAGEANT REHEARSALS ARE MANDATORY. HOWEVER, IF AN EMERGENCY DOES ARISE, PLEASE NOTIFY THE PAGEANT COORDINATORS.

13. SHOULD THERE BE ANY UNEXCUSED ABSENCES FROM REHEARSALS, YOU AUTOMATICALLY FORFEIT YOUR SPOT IN THE PAGEANT. 14. THERE WILL ONLY BE 10 CONTESTANTS COMPETING ON PAGEANT DAY. THE PROCESS OF ELIMINATION WILL BEGIN AT THE SCHEDULED REHEARSALS.
