| This television is fantastic!!! LED backlighting, 1080p, 120 hz - super crisp and clear picture. I was originally looking at the 46 Connections". Great LED TV for the price. The colors are terrific and brightness is perfect. There is a little bleeding on the edges like many LED have issues with. | |

BRIEFLY Christmas open house back
Dona and Gary Hobbs Pirongia Christmas house will be open again this year by popular demand. Mrs Hobbs was instrumental in staging the Festival of Trees in Pirongia Memorial Hall last Christmas. Around 2000 people attended the event and many wanted to know when will the house be open - referring to the Hobbs house containing Christmas displays which was a huge drawcard the year before. Once again this years open house will help raise funds for local organisations - including Te Awamutu BMX, Life Education Trust and Rewi Street Kindergarten. There will be a Christmas tree display and sale, light display and displays of nativity scenes from around the world, Christmas decorations etc The house opens this Friday and daily from 2.30pm-9.30pm ($1 entry) through to December 10 (when trees can be collected).
Search for arson clues
Police and re safety ofcers are treating a blaze at Te Mawhai in the early hours of Monday morning as arson. The unoccupied home was well involved when the emergency call was received at 3.40am. Ofcer in charge Michael Kimber put in a second call for assistance when his crew could see the re from Kihikihi. The house was completely destroyed by the re and reghters concentrated on protecting nearby properties. As well as being empty at the time, electricity to the house had been disconnected last week, so it is being treated as highly suspicious. Constable Bernadette Kelly says anyone with any information about the blaze, or who saw any suspicious activity in the Te Mawhai region in the early hours of Monday morning, should contact the police on in condence.

Torrington shoots to top of world
By Colin Thorsen Te Awamutu College old girl Georgina Torrington (nee Double) is on top of the world. The 36-year-old headed off ve time American Bianchi champion Vera Koo to become world action pistol shooting ladies individual champion at Blacktown, Sydney. The New Zealand ladies team of Torrington and Hilary Hoover also took out the world teams championship. It came down to a three horse race between New Zealand, Germany and America. Hoover missed three plates, but the American lady shooting with her missed two plates. The two German ladies missed a total of seven plates between them, taking them out of contention for the gold. It left the New Zealand pair with one plate up their sleeve. Torrington clinched the world title by dropping just the one plate midway through the event. The American she was shooting with dropped six plates in total. After Id stopped shooting Hilary came racing over, gave me a huge hug and said gold, we won gold. I have to say I didnt really believe her. It wasnt until I looked around at all the New Zealand team standing there applauding that I knew what I had achieved. Wow words just cant describe that feeling. At this stage Torrington was unaware that she had also won the individual title. It was only when the previous title winner came up and shook my hand and congratulated me that I knew it was for real. Winning the world title has been her goal for the last ve years. She says one of the nicest things to come out of her win has been the amount of happiness that other people have enjoyed from it. My husband (Andrew) and mum and dad (George and Maria) are as proud as punch. Although nowadays living in Waiuku, Torrington says her loyalties for pistol shooting (and rugby) still lie in the Waikato. She is a member of the Hamilton Pistol Club and will always have fond memories of growing up in Te Awamutu. When not on the range, she works in the national sales ofce based in Auckland - for the worlds most global hotel company - InterContinental Hotels Group as business development manager, meetings and conferences. There will be no hanging up of the pistols from this goal setter - she plans to defend her title in 2008.
