Two words - Buy Camtasia! I picked Adobe Captivate over Camtasia because of their reputation. Boy was I wrong. For creating web demos.

Objectives

Upon completing this module, training participants will be able to: 1. Use Macromedia Captivate to create software demonstrations 2. Edit software demonstrations

Open Demonstration Software
1. 2. Open the software that you wish to demonstrate. Minimize the application (Example: The software that is being used for this tutorial is Macromedia Audition.)
Open Macromedia Captivate
1. 2. Double-click the Captivate icon on your desktop. Under Record new movie, click Record or create a new movie.

Select the Type of Movie

1. 2. Under Record new movie, click the button next to Custom Size. Click OK.
Re-open Demonstration Software
1. 2. Re-open the software that you wish to demonstrate. The red frame around the window indicates the recording area. You can re-size the recording area by clicking and dragging the buttons inside the red frame. Note the recording dialog box in the upper left corner.
Recording the Demonstration
1. 2. Inside the recording dialog box, click Record. At this time, Macromedia Captivate will record a slide each time you click the mouse. Click through the demonstration and make sure to capture each feature that you wish to record. When you have nished recording, press End on your keyboard. The movie will appear in Storyboard view. To edit and preview the movie, click the Edit tab.

1. 2. This is a sample of Edit view. From Edit view you can add or delete slides, add/delete/change captions, add click boxes, etc.
Preview your Demonstration
1. 2. To preview your movie, click Preview in the toolbar. Click the desired preview option.

Open the Website

1. 2. 3. Open the website that you wish to demonstrate. Go to the rst page of the demonstration. Minimize the website. (Example: www.eskeletons.org)
1. 2. Double-click the Captivate icon on your desktop. Under Record new movie, click Record or create a new movie. The New movie options box will open. 3. 4. Click the button next to Custom size. Click OK.

Re-open the Website

1. 2. Re-open the website that you wish to demonstrate. The red frame in the window indicates the recording area. You can adjust the recording area by clicking and dragging one of the buttons inside the red frame. Please note the Recording dialog box in the

When nished recording, press End on your keyboard. The movie will appear in Storyboard view. To preview or edit the movie, click the Edit tab.

Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to: 1. Convert a PowerPoint presentation into a Captivate/Flash movie 2. Transition from Storyboard view to Edit view
1. Double-click the Captivate icon on your desktop. 2. Under Other movie types, click Import Movie.
Locate the PowerPoint Presentation
1. Enter the name of the PowerPoint presentation to import, or click Browse to navigate to the le. 2. Once you have located the PowerPoint, click Next.

Select Movie Size

1. Select the desired size for the movie. You can use custom sizes or preset sizes. 2. Once you have selected the movie size, click Next.

Slide Selection

1. Select the slides you wish to import. You can select all slides, or you can select specied slides. 2. When you selected your slides, click Finish.

Storyboard View

1. The new movie is created and opens in Storyboard View. 2. To preview the movie, or to make changes such as adding/changing captions, adding narration, inserting click boxes, etc. click Edit.
This is a sample of Edit view. The look is virtually identical to PowerPoint.

Movie Options

1. 2. From the movie options list, click the button next to Blank Movie. Click OK.
1. Select the desired size for the movie. You can use custom sizes or preset sizes. (It is recommended that you select a size no larger than 800 x 600) Once you have selected the movie size, click OK. A blank movie slide opens.

Insert a Question Slide

1. From the Captivate menu bar, click Insert>Question Slide.

Question Types

1. 2. The Question Types dialog opens. To select a question type, click the question type. (Example: True/False)

3. Click OK.

Create the Question
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Enter the question title. (Example: Question #1) Type the question. In the answer options box, click the button next to the correct answer. Select the numbering style. Click the Options tab. Select options for grading. Select options for action after correct answer and after incorrect answer Select display buttons. Click OK.

Question Slide

Your question slide has now been created. You can make edits to the slide by moving boxes, changing font, etc. Repeat the previous steps in order to create all of the different types of questions that Captivate allows.
