This is the Creative ZEN at a glance. Decked out in an all-black suit. This is an all around plain MP3 Player. I will report a tiny of a pros and cons about this player. GOOD THINGS: The Creative Zen sounds fantastic and features a brilliant color screen capable of displaying photos and video.

The only thing that would have been easier was a longer connecting cord between the device and the usb port. Good Picture Quality! So Light weighted That you Can Carry Anywhere With You!So easy to play & store the music & video you like ! Just plug & play !

"I really cannot list cons about this item. My only problem is that when you add songs to the zen, you cannot add a cd cover to the zen.

Zen 2 GB player Great player. I use it mostly for Audible MP3 books. My only complaint would be the lack of a lock to prevent accidental button push.

BuyDig is a first-rate retailer... so buy with confidence. But skip this MP3 player (or any other product from Creative Labs. The Zen X-Fi.

I love the Zen. So easy to set up & use. I downloaded several large audio books and a ton of music to listen to while I drive, work, working out. I tried one that a friend had and decided to buy it.

Good for the price. I ordered the Zen for my 9 year old. She had no problem figuring out how to use the features. Decieved by SD card-Skidmark I also was under the impression that the sd-slot would give me more memory.

Good quality images, easy to use, good viedo graphics very delicate, if synqued wringly it screws up all Great All around portable media player!!! None

All form NO FUNCTION. The battery is not replaceable and Creative labs has no customer service phone line. This looks pretty. I use my Zen primarily for music and photos, not video. I could not be more pleased with the sound (with after market headphones) and screen clarity.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
About these instructions Please read these instructions carefully before using the device. Note the warnings on the device and in the operating instructions Store the operating instructions in the car. If you sell or give the car radio away, please ensure that you also pass on these instructions.
Keep electrical equipment out of reach of children
Never allow children to use electrical devices unattended. Keep plastic packaging out of the reach of children. There is a risk of suffocation.

Road safety

Road safety should be your top priority. Use your car radio only in suitable traffic conditions. Please ensure that you are familiar with the radio before setting off. You should always be able to hear police, fire and other emergency service sirens in good time while in your vehicle. For this reason, please play your radio at an appropriate volume while driving.
Never undertake your own repairs
Never try to open and/or repair the device yourself. There is a risk of electric shock. If there is a defect contact our Service Centre or other suitable specialist workshop.

CD player

The CD player is a class 1 laser product. The device has a safety system that prevents dangerous laser rays escaping from the device during normal use. In order to avoid injury to the eyes, never manipulate or damage the unit's security system.
Treat the disc compartment with care
Never place any objects other than CDs into the disc compartment. These can damage the precision engineered disc pull in mechanism.

Safety instructions

Cleaning the device
Use a dry soft cloth to clean the device. Avoid the use of chemical solutions and cleaning products because these may damage the unit's surface and/or inscriptions.

Installation

If you wish to install your car radio yourself, please refer to the installation and connection instructions in this manual.

INSTALLATION

Installation instructions
Insert the unit into the proper shaft or select a location to install the unit that will not affect the driver's ability to drive. Connect the cable shortly before finally installing the device. Ensure that this has been connected correctly and that the system works properly. If changes have to be made to the vehicle, consult your vehicle dealer/ specialist workshop. Install the unit in such a manner that no injury can be caused during heavy braking. If the unit is installed out of balance by over 30 to the horizontal it may affect the output. Avoid installing the unit near strong heat sources (e.g. direct sunlight or heating air), dust, pollution or excessive shocks.

Connection example

Important information
Ensure that the yellow memory back up cable is connected to the permanent plus. Otherwise channel saving will not work. You can connect an external amplifier to the RCA cable (red and white cinch connections). Please refer to your instructions for the external amplifier. The orange cable can be connected to a mobile telephone hands free system and intended for use with MUTE function.
Four loudspeakers (quad system)
Of course, you can connect the car radio to just two speakers. In that case, you should only use the cables for the front loudspeakers.
Installing the radio in the ISO slot
Before installation always remove the two transportation safety screws in the top radio casing (recognizable because of their red flags)!

Assembly

The car radio can be fitted in any standard ISO slot for car radios. If your vehicle has no ISO slot, please consult a specialist workshop, dealer, or the specialist department of a car equipment warehouse. Remove the mounting frame from the casing of the car radio. Insert the mounting frame in the ISO installation slot. Bend the flaps in the mounting frame with a screwdriver so that it is fixed firmly in place in the installation slot (see diagram).
Check that the frame is held securely. Now connect the car radio's ISO block to the vehicle's two ISO plugs. Connect the vehicle's antenna cable to the radio's antenna socket. Push the car radio carefully into the slot until it clicks into place. Please use the car radio's ISO block when installing. ISO adapters for your specific car can be obtained, if required, from specialist workshops, dealers, or specialist departments of car equipment warehouses. If the ISO block is separated from the radio the warranty will become null and void!
While pushing the radio in, take care to ensure that the cables are free and will not be damaged. Press the RESET button (10) using the tip of a pen or another pointed object. Insert the control panel as described below.

The ISO adapter plug

Use the car's ISO adapter plug for the car radio's ISO socket block to produce a secure electrical connection.

Back up cable

Ensure that the yellowbackup cable for the station memory is connected to the permanent plus. After making all the connections, press the RESET button (10).

Antenna relay cable

The blue cable is available for a relay controlled antenna. The relay extends the antenna automatically when the radio is switched on. When it is switched off the antenna is retracted. This relay cable can also be used to control an external amplifier. Please refer to the amplifier's operating instructions for the correct connections. Never connect the blue cable to the engine cable; this could damage the radio!
Arrangement of the ISO block
BLOCK B Speakers rear right + rear right front right + front right BLOCK A Electricity supply 3 4

front left + front left rear left+ rear left
Permanent plus (permanent 12V supply from main electrical system) Car antenna (also for external amplifiers, etc.) Switched plus (switched 12V voltage, via ignition) Earth
Problems due to incorrect cable connections
In some vehicle models, the standard arrangement of the cables [4] and [7] in the ISO block A (see above, "ARRANGEMENT OF THE ISO BLOCK") is exchanged at the factory. If this is the case in your vehicle, certain functions may be impaired: stations may not be stored properly, for example. To solve this, the red cable (switched plus) and the yellow cable (permanent plus) will need to be reversed in the ISO block.

Removing the unit

To remove the unit, first remove the blind frame and insert the left and right key into the corresponding slot on the side of the unit. The flaps will be bent back and you can remove the unit.

Control panel

Inserting the control panel
First place the right side of the control unit into the frame. Then press the left side until it clicks into place. Flip the control panel upwards. Check that the control panel is properly in place and secure. If the control panel is not fitted properly, error messages appear in the display and/or several keys will not function properly.
Removing the control panel
Press the OPEN button (2). To remove the control panel, tip it gently forwards and then pull out first the left and then the right side. When the panel is not attached, the LED anti theft protection light will flash on the unit. For protection, always keep the control panel in its case.

To reset the car radio to the factory settings press the RESET button (10) with a pointed object, such as a pen. Press RESET (10) before first use, after connecting the cable, if not all function keys are working, when an error message appears in the display.
Your car radio is fitted with an RDS controlled clock. This is set automatically by the RDS station and keeps going even when the radio is switched off.

RADIO FUNCTIONS

Selecting the waveband
Press the ENT/LOU/BND button (6) to switch between FM (FM1, FM2, FM3), medium wave (MW) and long wave (LW). You can store up to 6 stations in each band. The three frequency bands FM1, FM2 and FM3 all cover the same frequency range (87.5 and 108 MHz) , which means that you can save up to 18 FM channels.

Searching for a station

Press one of the TUN/TRK/SKIP+/ (22/23) buttons to start the automatic search. The display shows SEARCH. The device will search for the next station automatically. Press one of the TUN/TRK/SKIP+/ (22/23) buttons to stop the automatic search. If you hold down the button for a bit longer the radio switches to manual search mode. The display shows MANUAL. Use TUN/TRK/SKIP to adjust the value.
Searching for an AF station
In AF mode the radio automatically changes to a station with an alternative frequency which transmitting the same programme when reception of the original frequency is too weak (see also the explanation Alternative frequencies (REG/AF button) on page 16). To turn AF mode on press the button REG/AF (11). In one of the bands FM1, FM2 or FM3 press the SCN button (15) to search the FM band in order to find stations that are broadcasting an AF signal. The scanning process stops for 5 seconds each time it finds a station and then continues. Press the SCN (22) button again to stop the search.

Save station

After the search function has found a station press one of the M1-6 (10 15) buttons for around three seconds. A beep will sound to indicate that the station has been stored. In each band (FM1, FM2, FM3, MW and LW) you can save 6 stations. The radio will switch back into automatic search mode after a few seconds.

Calling up stations

Select the waveband by pressing ENT/LOU/BND (6). You can open one of the saved stations by pressing one of the station buttons 1-6 (14 19).

Radio functions

Automatic saving
Hold down the AMS (21) button for about three seconds. The three frequencies FM1, FM2 and FM3 are searched for the six strongest stations and the stations found are saved in programme spaces for each frequency range. Then the station that is saved in memory space 1 in frequency FM1 is played. Press one of the station buttons 1-6 (14 19) to stop searching.
Running through saved stations
You can call up the saved stations for the current transmission areas. Select the waveband by pressing ENT/LOU/BND (6). Press the AMS button (21) briefly. All stored stations will be played one after another for about five seconds. When you hear the station you want to listen to press the AMS button (21) briefly.
RDS is a service provided by radio stations. In addition to traditional music and voice services they also broadcast additional information in the form of encrypted digital signals and these are analysed and displayed by the car radio. On the display you can now see the programme name and other information (traffic information, the title of the track currently being played, etc.).
Alternative frequencies (REG/AF button)
AF mode (AF = alternative frequencies) enables an automatic switching of frequencies when leaving the transmission range of a radio transmitter. In the AF table in RDS alternative frequencies for neighbouring transmitters with the same programme are constantly being sent out. The receiver constantly checks the quality of the received signal and, if necessary, changes to another frequency. The change is only successful if the PI codes are identical. This avoids switching to a frequency which is occupied by a different programme. Press the REG/AF button (11) briefly to switch the AF function for the RDS mode on or off. If the function is on the display shows AF. The AF indicator in the display flashes when RDS information is received.

Regional programme mode (REG/AF button)
Some stations transmit regional programmes at certain times. To switch the regional programme mode on or off hold down the REG/AF button (11) for longer than 2 seconds. The display now shows REG ON. To switch on the regional mode wait until the display changes back to the radio display. REG ON: The radio only searches regional stations with traffic announcements. REG ON: The radio only searches stations with traffic announcements outside of the region.
TA (Traffic Announcement)
Press the TA button (12) for a little longer to switch this function on or off. If the device is in TA mode (TA is shown on the screen) and a CD is playing the radio is switched on immediately if a traffic announcement is transmitted. Stations that broadcast traffic announcements are shown by TP on the screen. If EON finds a radio traffic service in another program, it occasionally switches to the EON relay station (see below). The volume is increased if it is below the threshold.
If the TA function is on during an automatic station search you can use the TUN/TRK/SKIP+/- (22/23) button to save/find only stations that broadcast traffic announcements. You can interrupt the radio if it changes from CD/MP3 mode or from a channel without traffic announcements to a channel with traffic announcements. To do this press the TA button (12). The TA function is now paused without the TA mode being switched off.
The extended other network information (EON) provides additional functions for locating a station with traffic announcements. Specifically, the device also switches to a station with traffic announcements if you are listening to a station that does not provide travel announcements. After the announcement it switches back to the previous station.

EON settings menu

Press in and hold the MULTIJOG dial (3) while in radio mode. The EON setting menu opens. Press in the multijog dial (3) again to call up further menus. Within a menu you can select settings by turning the MULTIJOG dial (3) one position to the left or right. The settings do not require confirmation and are saved as soon as the display returns to radio or CD mode. TA SEEK or TA ALARM TA SEEK: If you leave the reception range or the signal for traffic announcements becomes weaker the search process is started and searches for the strongest TA station (station with traffic announcements). TA ALARM: If you leave the reception area or the signal for traffic announcements becomes weaker an alarm signal sounds. PI SOUND or PI MUTE PI SOUND: Station search with sound. PI MUTE: The sound is muted when searching for stations. RETUNE L or RETUNE S RETUNE L (long): The search for a station with the correct PI (programme identification) code lasts for 90 seconds. The basic functions are the same as those for audio CDs (refer to previous chapter). However, for MP3 CDs you can select the track and artist directly. The use of this function and other MP3 specific functions will depend to some degree on the MP3 CD itself. Please bear this in mind when producing this type of CD (refer to next chapter). All common encodings can be played back.
Producing MP3 CDs; ID3 tags
As with data CDs, MP3 CD ROMs may contain individual tracks or folders. When producing an MP3 CD please ensure that you only save the tracks in folders and that none are saved on the same level as the folders. Mixing tracks and folders at the same level may produce playback problems. When producing an MP3 CD you can also save so called "ID3 tags" (we recommend using an ID3 tag editor for entries). This is a block of information stored on an MP3 CD lying "behind" the actual music information of the MP3. This may include such items as the artist, track, album name, year of publication and a short comment. The car radio can read this block of information and show it on the display. To display the ID3 tags press DSP (5). The category changes each time you press the button: > TRACK > ARTIST > ALBUM NAME > YEAR OF RELEASE > COMMENT.

Track search

Search for track numbers Press the AMS button (21). The first position flashes. Turn the MULTIJOG dial (3) to pick a track from the current folder or enter the desired track number using the number buttons 0-9. If you want to change folder press the TUN/TRK 8 (22) or TUN/TRK 9 (23). buttons. Press in the MULTIJOG dial to confirm your choice or confirm with the ENT/ LOU/BND (6) button. Search for track name (letters) Press AMS (21) twice. The first position flashes. You can search in the current directory for the beginning of the title by choosing a letter with the MULTIJOG (3) dial. Alternatively you can use the number buttons to choose a letter in accordance with the table on the next page. If you want to change folder press the TUN/TRK 8 (22) or TUN/TRK 9 (23). buttons. Confirm the entry of a character with the ENT/LOU/BND (6) button. If you want to enter the next character press the MULTIJOG dial (3). The next position flashes. Again, use the MULTIJOG (3) dial (or the number buttons according to the table) to enter a character. Finally, press ENT/LOU/BND (6) to start the track search. If no corresponding title is found then NOT FOUND appears on the display. Start playback again by pressing ENT/LOU/BND (6).
Searching for directories
Searching from root directory Press AMS (8) three times. The top directory (root directory) appears. Using the TUN/TRK 8 (22) or TUN/TRK 9 (23) buttons you can now scroll through all the directories and titles. Press ENT/LOU/BND (6) to play back the titles in this directory.
Searching from current directory Press AMS (8) four times. The current directory is displayed. Using the TUN/TRK 8 (22) or TUN/TRK 9 (23) buttons you can now scroll through all the directories and titles, starting with the current one. This device can also play WMA files. The operation functions in the same way as for MP3 files.

USB CONNECTION

Playback
You can connect an MP3 player or another data medium to the USB connection on the front of the unit. Your car radio can process USB data media up to 1GB. The directory structure may contain up to 1024 folders, 4096 files and a directory depth of 8 levels. Remove the protective cover from the USB connection (9). Connect your USB device to the socket. The radio will search for MP3 or WMA files on the storage medium and USB will appear on the display. Search and playback functions for files on an external storage medium work in the same way as for MP3 CDs. If the device is in another mode (radio, CD or card reader), you can select USB with the MOD (20) button. Replace the protective cover on the USB connection when no USB device is attached to prevent dirt getting into the system.

Recording

You can also use your radio to record data from the radio and the CD player onto the external USB data medium or an SD/MMC card. In this, the USB medium has priority. Choose radio or CD mode (according to where you want to record from). To start recording, press the REC/TA button (12). The audio data will now be stored on the USB drive or the SD/MMC card in WMA format. During recording FILE NAME will appear on the display. To stop recording, briefly press the REC/TA (12) button again briefly. If the USB storage medium is full the recording will automatically switch to the card reader, if a card has been inserted (see following chapter). You can play back the data by switching to the USB mode with the MOD (20) button and calling up individual titles from the USB drive.

CARD READER

Your car radio has a card reader for SD cards and multimedia cards (in the upper part of the control panel).
Flip the control panel forwards. Insert a memory card into the drive with the label side facing upwards. Playback of MP3 or WMA files on the card starts automatically. The controls for playing files are the same as for MP3 CDs. If the device is in another mode (radio, CD or USB), you can select the card reader with the MOD (20) button.
You can use your radio to record data from the radio and the CD player onto a memory card. Recording works the same as described in the section "USB connection".
