Congratulations! You now own one of the best water timers available. With more than 50 years of experience, Melnor has a full line of innovative, high-quality watering tools. Look for Melnor for all your watering needs. Lets Get Started Place the label containing English operating instructions inside the green control panel door. programming the unit, you make a mistake or simply wish to start over, press MENU. Setting Time and Day of the Week To begin, you must enter the current time and day into your timer, much like setting a wristwatch. Note: For hours that are in the PM, PM is displayed on the screen. For hours that are in the AM, AM will not be displayed. Hour: As you look at the screen, you will see a number for the hour blinking. Scroll up or down to set the current hour. When you have arrived at the correct hour, press the ACCEPT button. Minute: Now the screen shows the minute blinking. Scroll up or down to set the correct minute, and press ACCEPT. Day of the Week: Look for the indicator blinking along the bottom of the screen above the days of the week. Scroll to arrive at todays day, then press ACCEPT. Entering a Watering Schedule Think about your watering needs. How often do you want to water? For how long? When is the best time to water? Do you need to water more than once a day? It may be helpful to write down a schedule before you begin this phase of programming the timer. This timer enables you to set up to six different watering cycles within your schedule. Each cycle triggers one daily watering on as many days as you choose. If you want more than one watering cycle in a 24-hour period, you will need to set up an additional cycle for each additional watering. You may program up to six watering cycles. Start Time The indicator is blinking under Watering Cycle 1 in the upper left corner of the screen. Press ACCEPT to begin setting up Watering Cycle 1. Decide when you want to begin watering. Set and ACCEPT the hour, then the minute, using the scroll buttons. Duration of Watering Next, choose how long you want to water, or run-time. Scroll to the desired run-time hour, press ACCEPT. Then scroll to the desired minute, press ACCEPT. Watering Every Two or Three Days The indicator on the screen will blink at 3rd Day in the upper
Phillips head screw driver.
2. Install two new AA alkaline batteries (not included) in the
positions shown inside the battery compartment.
3. Place the battery door back in position and carefully push
it into place. While holding it, re-secure the screws. Now your timer is on and waiting for you to set the time of day. The motor may activate, and then you will hear the valve opening or closing for a few seconds.
Additional Battery Information We recommend using good quality, fresh alkaline batteries. Fresh batteries should last one watering season. Replace the batteries at the beginning of each watering season. Remove the batteries when the timer is not in use for an extended period of time. When the batteries become weak, the unit will display Low Battery. If the watering valve is open at that time, the timer will close the valve. It will not activate or open the valve manually until the batteries are replaced. Programming Your Timer You can program your timer while it is on or off the faucet. It may be easier to program the unit before you attach it. Note: When you are programming your timer, words and/or numbers will blink on the screen. This indicates the unit is ready to accept your input. If you do not enter any information within approximately one minute, the unit will return to its original settings and you will have to start over. If You Need to Start Over To start over, push the MENU button. If the time and day are correct, push MENU again (this will take you to Watering Cycles). Otherwise, go thru the hour, minute and day settings, updating as necessary. If at any time while you are
right corner of the screen. Press ACCEPT to water every third day. Or, to water every second day, scroll up to the next option, 2nd Day, and press ACCEPT. If you would like to water on specific days (including everyday), press the up arrow again. Choosing Specific Watering Days The indicator will shift to the lower left corner of the screen, the days of the week. Scroll to move the indicator, and press ACCEPT to select each day you wish to water. Note: you must move the indicator through all the days of the week, even though you may not wish to water on them. Bypass days when you do not wish to water. When you reach Sunday, you must either press ACCEPT or scroll up one more time to signal to the unit that you are done entering this cycle. When you finish setting Watering Cycle 1, the indicator at the upper left of the screen will blink under Watering Cycle 2. This means you are ready to enter Watering Cycle 2 if you wish. To do so, repeat the process. Note: you must set the run time to 0:00 on all cycles for which you do not want additional watering. To review or make changes to a cycle, push the MENU button twice. This will bypass the time and date and take you to Watering Cycles. Scroll up or down to choose the cycle you want, press ACCEPT to enable user input. Scroll up and down to make changes. Press ACCEPT to enter the changes. Attaching the Timer to the Faucet Use the Manual On/Off button to close the valve inside the timer. Check to see that it is closed by looking into the opening on the bottom or top of the unit. Screw the black, plastic coupling nut on top of the unit to the faucet. When it is secure, turn the water on at the faucet. Leave it on. Be certain to turn the water off at the faucet whenever you remove the timer. Attach the hose and sprinkler to the outlet on the underside of the timer. Melnor Aqua Timers are completely compatible with the Melnor Quick Connect system and other major hose connector systems. Manual Watering If you wish to turn the water on manually, there is no need to remove the timer from the faucet. Just follow these steps. Press the Manual On/Off button to open the valve manually. The current time will appear, and a run-time of 30 minutes will blink. The run-time for a manually opened valve is automatically set at 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, the unit will close the valve and resume its current program. The run-time for keeping the valve open can be adjusted down to 0:00 or up to 59:00 minutes by scrolling up or down. To prevent unwanted watering, set the Manual On/Off run-time at 0:00. Note: When setting Manual On/Off run-time, you will have only four seconds to scroll up or down to input your numbers. If you need to re-start the process, press the Manual On/Off button to close the valve and again to re-open the valve.
Advanced Options What if you want to adjust the watering time without permanently changing the watering cycles you have set? Look for % Run-Time along the right side of the screen. This controls all watering cycles. Press MENU three times, and the screen will display two blinking items: numbers and an indicator in the lower right corner above On Off. The number should read 100, which indicates you are watering for 100% of the time you set. The indicator should be On. By scrolling up or down, you can change the number from 100 to 000 in increments of 10. For example, if you want to water only half as much as usual, set 050 (for 50%). The indicator will blink at On. If you want to skip watering altogether, set 000 (for 0%). The indicator will blink at Off. What if you want to modify the run-time on some but not all watering cycles? Using the % run time feature affects all cycles equally. To affect one cycle but not another, change the run-time in the cycles programming. To do this, press MENU twice, scroll to the cycle you wish to change, press ACCEPT, and begin making changes. If you wish to disable a watering cycle while keeping others running, set its run-time to 0:00. Operating Tips Always use fresh alkaline batteries. Replace them at the beginning of each watering season. Do not use rechargeable batteries. Use with water pressures from 7 to 120 PSI (0.3 to 8.5 bar). Do not expose timer to temperatures below 32 degrees F (0 degrees C). Be careful when moving the hose. Too much pulling may damage either the faucet or the hose connections. To prevent clogging, clean the filter washer regularly. To prevent unwanted watering, set the Manual On/Off runtime at 0:00. Set the run time to 0:00 on all cycles for which you do not want additional watering. Once your timer is programmed, the screen will display current time and day of the week. The lower right corner will indicate whether all watering cycles are adjusted to a percentage of the programmed run-time or off. If the cycles are running as programmed, there will be an indicator in the lower right hand corner.
Frequently Asked Questions Q: If its going to rain, can I prevent the timer from watering? A: Yes. Please refer to Advanced Operations in these instructions. Q: Why do my pipes bang when the water shuts off? A: This is called a water hammer. The addition of a short piece of hose between the timer and the faucet should eliminate this problem. Q: Can I erase or delete a program? A: While you cannot specifically delete a Watering Cycle, you can save a new setting in its place. Also, if you wish no watering, you can set the run time to 0:00 (see Advanced Operations).
