Torque

Torque is a measurement of your engines pulling power, and its torque that pulls you up hills, allowing your engine a more linear and aggressive acceleration curve. With the Powerchip, you notice the increase in torque right throughout the rev range, which gives you far greater flexibility at low engine revolutions. Towing will become less demanding, and you will no longer feel the need to take the engine to the redline in each gear to get the performance you demand. Its always there for you, when you really need it most!

Increased Power and Torque results in faster acceleration. And it is not just standing start acceleration that is improved, your in-gear acceleration is improved and faster. Perhaps you feel that you need that extra bit of power when you are lined up at the "traffic light grand prix" against another car with similar (or more) power? Fitting Details

Your car utilizes a Surface Mount Chip (SMT) a very sophisticated and powerful memory device which is fitted to many late model (post 1996) vehicles. Because of its complexity, the SMT style chip must be 'flash' programmed in the same way as the dealership (don't worry we do this for you when we recieve your ECU), similarly to when servicing the vehicle. The ECU itself is very easy to remove, and should be sent overnight to be modified at Powerchip and then return overnight to you (we use FedEx Priority Overnight Service). Detailed instructions (including photos) are also provided to ensure the ECU can be removed easily from the vehicle. Once complete, and reinstalled into the vehicle, you are back on the road to enjoy your enhanced performance as soon as possible.

Speed Limt

Your vehicle uses a factory speed governor that prevents the vehicle from reaching any speed above the preset factory limit. The speed limiter is a set of digital instructions that measures the vehicle speed and limits acceleration at a certain speed. By adjusting the values in the ECU, and raising the speed limiter to operate above the natural top speed of the car (according to engine power Vs vehicle air coefficient). This allows the vehicle to attain its natural top speed without hitting a preset limit.This feature is safe for use on the racetrack; however, Powerchip holds no responsibility for vehicles driven irresponsibly. Powerchip recommends adherence to all local road laws including speed limits. Furthermore the tyres on your vehicle must be suitable for sustained high speeds (i.e. W, Y or Z rated).

Driveability

Beyond the impressive torque and power gains on full throttle, many hours were spent refining the part throttle timing maps for maximum throttle response and driveability. Both the full throttle and part throttle maps are changed for improved driveability in day-to-day driving. In other words, you dont need to be on the racetrack to notice the Powerchip performance improvement.

Manufacturers Tolerances

Mercedes-Benz unfortunately leaves large tolerances in the performance characteristics of its entire fleet to allow for drivers that are negligent on maintenance, and who are non-enthusiasts. The R350 3.5 is de-tuned to be able to run on the poorest grade of fuel that the car is likely to encounter anywhere in the world, and also to allow for the small percentage of owners who put their cars reliability to the test due to their lack of mechanical understanding. In most cases, our clients are enthusiasts who place more emphasis on the performance characteristics of their vehicle, and therefore the Powerchip does not need to be programmed as conservatively as the stock software.

Modified Spark Advance

In the old days the ignition distributor controlled the engine spark timing. Changes to the position in the distributor will result in changed ignition settings, and is a good method of tune-up for older vehicles. Modern engine ignition is controlled by a series of tables or maps. These maps give the engine any instructions required to operate, under ALL load and rev per minute access points. Similar to the old systems, advancing the point of ignition within a cylinder results in increased horsepower and toque. It is important not to advance the timing beyond the capabilities of the fuel used, or else detonation can occur. Peak horsepower is achieved when ignition timing is set as close to the point of detonation as possible, without exceeding it. This is the primary purpose for asking the octane rating each client uses most frequently, so that the software is set to the correct level of ignition advance for the fuel used. The end result of ignition advance changes is increased horsepower and torque, resulting in better acceleration and various other driving benefits.

The Powerchip complies with U.S. EPA Memorandum 1A, or it has not been found nor is believed to be unlawful for use under the provisions of the Clean Air Act. Currently, Powerchip is not legal in California for vehicles that may be used on a highway. Powerchip is currently undergoing testing for certification under the Californian Air Resources Board (CARB) exemption process.

Octane ratings

The Powerchip is designed to get the best from your engine, and to do this you must use a high performance fuel (91 Octane minimum). It is not possible to improve the performance on late model fuel injected vehicles using poor quality fuels, such as 87 or 89 octane. When ordering your Powerchip upgrade, your Power Consultant will ask you for the octane rating you would like your program to run. Powerchip Gold 91 is designed to run on fuel with an octane rating of either 91 or 92. Powerchip Gold 93 is designed to run on fuel with an octane rating of 93 or higher. We highly recommend that you use the highest-octane fuel available to you, such as 92, 93 or 94 octane if a higher than 91-octane fuel is available.

Warranty

All Gold 93 Powerchips come with a three year, unlimited mile warranty, which means that if anything occurs with the Powerchip in that time, we will replace it without charge to you. To briefly summarize the information: if your car is covered by a new or dealer warranty, the dealer may not void a warranty simply because you have fitted an aftermarket product. SEMA, the automotive aftermarket industry body in North America has made the following statements regarding aftermarket products such as performance chips. "The vehicle manufacturer is not allowed to void the vehicle warranty just because aftermarket equipment is installed on the vehicle." ".In cases where such a failed aftermarket part is responsible for a warranty claim, the (vehicle) manufacturer must arrange a settlement with the part manufacturer, but the new vehicle warrant is not void under the law." "If the failure to honor a claim involves the new-vehicle warranty, and it appears that the (vehicle) manufacturer is improperly denying a claim, the incident should be reported to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)." The fitment of the Powerchip will not have a detrimental effect on your vehicle performance or engine longevity, and therefore does not interfere with the manufacturers warranty in any way.

Director. Automatic light-sensing headlamps and new LED
taillamps add dramatic style to the redesigned RClass. With the optional Lighting Package, brilliant Bi-Xenon headlamps feature Active Curve Illumination, to direct more light into dark corners. The package also adds a headlamp washing system and bright white LED Daytime Running Lamps.
Producer. Both the 268hp gasoline V6 of the R350 and
the clean-diesel R350 BlueTEC produce high torque with ultra-low emissions. With an estimated 24 highway mpg,2 the R350 BlueTEC can go up to 500miles on a tank of fuel, even B5 Biodiesel. BlueTEC technology converts nitrogen oxide emissions into pure, earth-friendly nitrogen and oxygen.
Performer. Boldly styled, aggressively sized 19" alloy
wheels and tires deliver commanding performance on the road and confident showmanship even standing still. For a more exclusive engagement, 20" AMG 5-spoke wheels and tires (shown) highlight the Sport Appearance Packagean option for the gasoline-powered R350.

The history, and future, of safety. Since patenting the crumple zone 60 years ago to introducing the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) in the 1990s, Mercedes-Benz has a second-to-none heritage of advancing automotive safety. Look at most any vehicle today and youll see countless safety features that were innovated years ago under the Three-Pointed Star. The 2011 RClass, meanwhile, peers ahead once again with PRESAFE, yet another Mercedes-Benz first that can actually detect and prepare for a collision before it happens. The RClass does more than show you the future. It helps you be ready for it.
PRE- SAFE. During certain vehicle maneuvers, the industry-exclusive PRESAFE system can detect vehicle instability which suggests that a collision or rollover is imminent. PRESAFE can then tighten the front seat belts, and even close the windows and sunroof, all in an effort to better prepare the occupants before an accident occurs.3 Standard 12-way air bag protection. Within the high-strength steel-reinforced uni-body structure of the RClass, eight air bags offer a total of 12 ways of occupant protection. In addition to dual-stage front air bags, there are also four side-impact air bags, as well as side curtain air bags for the outboard occupants in all three rows.4 Advanced restraints. The RClass provides a 3point seat belt
and adjustable head restraint at every seating position. Outboard seat belts in the first two seating rows are equipped with Emergency Tensioning Devices (ETDs) and belt-force limiters. In a rear impact, NECKPRO active front head restraints help to prevent whiplash.
Accident avoidance. Two systems first introduced by MercedesBenz help you avoid potential collisions. ESP, our Electronic Stability Program, monitors how the vehicle responds to your steering and braking, and takes action to help keep it on course during evasive maneuvers.1 Brake Assist can apply full braking pressure if it detects an emergency braking situationbased on how quickly you step on the brake pedalpotentially shortening your stopping distance.6
More stable towing. When towing,7 standard Trailer Stability Assist integrates with the sensors for ESP to help detect the onset of trailer sway. If it senses oscillation, it strategically applies the front brakes of the RClass to help bring it all under control. Tire safety. An advanced Tire Pressure Monitoring System can

show the inflation pressure of all four mounted tires in the indash multifunction display. R350 BlueTEC models feature run-flat tires that can travel up to 50 miles at up to 50mph after a puncture.8
Post-collision response. If an air bag or seat-belt ETD deploys,
the optional Mercedes-Benz mbrace system can initiate a call to our 24hour emergency response centereven if you cant.5 In addition, the standard POST-SAFE system automatically shuts off the engine and fuel supply, turns on some cabin lights and the hazard flashers, and unlocks the doors to assist rescuers.
Blind Spot Assist. When traveling at speeds above 20mph, this new RClass option can alert the driver to some unseen vehicles in the next lane.9 When sensors in the rear bumper detect a vehicle to either side, an indicator illuminates in the appropriate side mirror. Should you activate your turn signal while the system is sensing an adjacent vehicle, an audible warning will also sound.

Receptive. Each seat in the second and third rows folds

Perceptive. Two available options can help you negotiate
tight spaces. The rear view camera,13 part of the Premium1 Package, shows a live color image on the in-dash COMAND screen. The PARKTRONIC system helps you detect nearby obstacles using ultrasonic sensors in the front and rear bumpers, along with audio-visual indicators in the cabin.
Sensitive. Standard dual-zone climate control includes

dust and pollen filtration, along with an activated charcoal filter that helps remove odors from the cabin air. Optional 3zone climate control (shown) adds a separate rear-cabin air conditioning system. Dual control panels allow both firstand second-row passengers to operate the rear system.
