ScanWizard 5 is the scanner controller software that powers the ScanMaker X12USL. Designed specifically for Microtek's newest scanners, it boasts two unique control panelsthe Automated (for on-thefly scanning) and the Advanced (for professional imaging). ScanWizard 5's Automated Control Panel is a productivity feature. It's perfect for situations when you need to produce a quick print-out or an email attachment. Operating from this panel, ScanWizard 5 automatically detects the edges of an image; determines its size; adjusts the color, brightness and contrast; and scans at the best resolution. ScanWizard 5 even includes screen layout options for right-or left-handed preferences. For your professional imaging needs, ScanWizard 5's Advanced Control Panel offers a wide array of options and features. What Is MTMA?

Product Features and Benefits

Spacious Scanning Area

The MTMA provides more space (practically the whole scan bed space available) for scanning transparencies (7 x 10 for Legal-size flatbed scanner) compared to conventional TMA solution (typically 4 x 5). MTMA is therefore more efficient too as it can process more films and slides per scan.

High Quality Images

To optimize quality of scanned images, scanner needs to have its light source calibrated before scanning. MTMA is designed with its own calibration scheme that guarantees to get the best quality images from your scanner. Conventional prism type TMA cannot support light source calibration.
Compact Size, Light Weight, and Low Cost Solution
The MTMA is no larger than the size of a pencil box and weight no more than 10 ounces (about 250 grams). The lightweight and pint-size design saves workspace and easy to carry around. Aside from being so handy, its price is quite affordable too when compared to other solutions under same level of category.

Low Power Consumption

Being a certified ISO-14001 compliant firm since 1997, Microtek is committed to provide environmentally friendly products in which MTMA is an example. The product was designed with extremely low power consumption. MTMA does not need any extra power source to operate. It derives its power from the 15-pin, D-type connector at your Microtek scanner back panel. MTMA consumes much less power while providing wider scan area compared to other TMA devices on the market today.

How Does MTMA Work?

As shown in the above figure, MTMA houses the cold cathode lamp that provides the light source for scanning transparencies. The MTMA is magnetically attached to the carriage underneath the scan bed glass through pairs magnetic pads located at both ends of MTMA and the scanner carriage. When making a transparency scan (with your originals on the scanning bed), set Transparent Material as your type of original from your scanner software UI. When the scanner carriage starts to move and scan the whole scan bed, the magnetic force will cause the carriage to drag along the MTMA in synchronized motion. MTMA is equipped with steel rollers to make its travel along the glass bed as frictionless as possible. The rollers also elevate the MTMA bottom surface by 2 millimeters from the glass surface to avoid contact with transparencies.
Question: Will the presence of magnets in the MTMA damage the disk or other computer magnetic storage devices? Answer: The magnetic force of MTMA is very weak. In fact, it is far weaker than the magnetic force of computer speakers. Tests were carried out to determine its effect on the disks and ZIP cartridges. The results proved that it causes no harm to any magnetic storage devices. Furthermore, MTMA meets the FCC and CB safety regulations. Question: How long will the magnets remain serviceable? Answer: The magnetic pads are made of permanent magnet. Its serviceability remains effective unless they are exposed to a stronger outside magnetic force that could neutralize its magnetic properties.
