Standard programmes

Cottons The cottons programme offers a 5 kg load wash for cotton and linen garments including bedlinen, towels, jeans and shirts. With temperatures ranging from Cold or 30C to 95C, and using the maximum spin speed on the machine, it can cope with the most stubborn of dirt and stains! Our latest range of machines go one step further by separating the cottons programme into a Cottons Universal programme with temperatures ranging from Cold or 30C to 60C for washing normal everyday loads, and a Cottons Hygiene programme with temperatures ranging from 60C to 95C for washing heavily soiled laundry.
Minimum iron With temperatures ranging from Cold or 30C to 60C, and a maximum spin speed of 900 rpm, minimum iron provides the perfect wash for up to 2.5 kg of polycottons or cotton mixes. As its name suggests, it washes clothes thoroughly and rigorously, yet results in the minimum of creasing to help aid the tiresome job of ironing!
Delicates The delicates programme, with temperatures ranging from Cold to 40C is ideally suited to 1 kg loads of acrylic, acetate, triacetate, and other man-made fibres. It uses very high water levels and a gentle wash rhythm together with a maximum spin of just 600 rpm to provide excellent care for your delicates.
Quick wash / Express With this programme you can wash up to 2.5 kg of lightly soiled cottons and polycottons at 40C in just 30 minutes.

When Miele made their first washing machine a century ago, they took much of the hard work out of the wash day. However, one tedious chore remained washing woollens and silks by hand. Now, Miele have developed two revolutionary new programmes that do it for you. An independent report by the Krefeld Laundry Research Institute states Judging by the results from tests on tailored garments, the conclusion can be drawn that the woollens programme is suitable for washing garments with the handwash label. As seen on a delicate item of knitwear, the Handwash programme causes less shrinkage and felting than the recommended hand wash procedure.
The handwash woollens programme This programme not only does away with the back breaking work, but actually washes delicate woollens even more gently than you can by hand. Any item with a handwash label cashmere, angora or mohair can be washed completely safely in the knowledge that it will not shrink, stretch, matt or felt beyond the accepted tolerance. The sophisticated electronic controls create a particularly gentle wash action, so there is little agitation to cause shrinkage. And by using as little as 35 litres of water, fibres will not absorb too much and become misshapen and stretched.

The programme takes a 2 kg load and has a top spin of 1200 rpm, giving excellent water extraction and quick drying times. The high spin speed ensures that garments are held protectively against the sides of the drum, preventing them from falling and suffering damage. Depending on the model, lower spin speeds can be selected for delicate non-woollen items.
The silks programme All Miele washing machines have a silks programme for washing your silks and linen items with better wash results than can be obtained by hand (WfK Institute). The programme takes a 1 kg load and optimum temperatures, a special drum rhythm, a gentle spin at a reduced speed and most importantly, the smaller drum holes ensure that your garments are given the kindest treatment. This also reduces creasing and the amount of ironing required, thus providing Easy care for your laundry.

Special programmes

Patented Automatic Programme
In todays time-consuming economy, there is often very little time to sort laundry by colour and fabric, and it can be a headache trying to work out the best programme required for certain washes. With this in mind Miele, have developed the ultimate programme for convenience the Automatic programme. With temperatures of 40C or Cold to 40C, depending on model, this programme uses sensor technology to monitor the speed at which laundry absorbs water and determines the type of load in the machine from this information. Clothes made from cotton, for example, are more absorbent then polyester. Once the load has been sensed the electronics automatically vary the washing and rinsing times, the spin profile and the level of water to ensure optimum wash results time after time. The Automatic programme allows you to wash a 3 kg mixed load of cottons and synthetic fibres, giving you the added benefit of saving time and the peace of mind that you have chosen the right programme.

Outerwear Washing specialised outdoor and sports fabrics such as Goretex, Windstopper and Sympatex is often avoided due to the sensitive membranes within the fabric. This programme with higher water levels during washing and rinsing, along with a gentle rinse and final spin is designed to take extra special care of these sensitive membranes. The final spin works in stages, 200 / 450 and 800 rpm to loosen the fabric preventing pockets of water developing in the material, and a special wash rhythm has also been developed to reduce creasing. This programme takes a 2 kg wash load and washes with temperatures ranging from Cold to 40C.

Curtains When washing large items, such as curtains, plenty of space is needed in the washing machine and water levels within the drum need to be increased accordingly to prevent creasing. Furthermore, these fabrics are sensitive and therefore require low levels of mechanical action. All these requirements have been taken in to consideration when developing this programme offering the perfect wash results for your curtains every time. An additional feature of this programme is a cold pre-rinse. This occurs prior to the main wash using no detergent, with the main aim of removing any dust particles which may have collected in the folds of the material. With temperatures from Cold to 40C it is ideal for a maximum wash load of 2 kg. Pillows Our new larger 6 kg drum enables large items such as pillows to be washed with ease, and coupled with our new pillows programme it couldnt be easier. Increased water levels, high temperatures and without rinse spin ensure gentle care of up to two continental pillows, depending on their size, with a feather, down or synthetic filling. Pillows Standard ideal for a maximum of two 80 x 40 cm pillows. Pillows Large ideal for a maximum of one 80 x 80 cm pillow.
Proofing This 10 minute re-proofing programme with temperatures reaching 40C, is perfect for proofing microfibre garments such as, ski wear or thickly woven cotton items. This programme is also ideal for providing table linen with a special water and stain repellent finish. After using this programme, it is recommended to use the proofing programme on our new tumble dryers, to ensure the proofing is correctly sealed. Ideal for a maximum wash load of 2 kg.
NB: only use proofing detergents which contain fluorides, not paraffin as these will leave a film on the drum.

No need for a half load button The reason Miele machines are never wasteful is that they have fuzzy logic. The automatic load adjustment system works out exactly how much water and time each load actually needs and uses not a drop or minute more!

Check lights The sophisticated controls on a Miele machine will let you know if something is wrong. Thanks to the displays, check lights and the engineer's fault diagnostic programme, problems are quickly located.
Tried and tested door catch Plastic door catches often give way under daily wear and tear and constant slamming. Miele's metal door catch is designed and tested to be opened and swung shut 60,000 times. The average machine is tested for less than half this number.
Easy loading access A larger porthole door has been added to the Miele washing machine range, making the loading and unloading of the machine much quicker and easier. The porthole door has been increased to 30 cm, offering an additional 2 cm more than on our previous range of machines, and the door opens to 180 thanks to the cast metal and chrome door hinging. Interior drum lighting Halogen lighting inside the drum allows the interior to be evenly and well lit. This makes loading and unloading the machine easier and nearly impossible to forget a garment inside the washing machine.
Angled porthole The deep porthole glass has been angled to deflect the clothes away from the door and keep detergent away from the door seal. This protects both the fabric and the machine allowing your laundry to gently and slowly fall to the bottom of the drum, ensuring even gentler care.

Internal washing machine features
Honeycomb care Washing machines with the Honeycomb drum have fully electronic controls which, with almost no mechanical moving parts, will give you many years of excellent service. They also offer a very wide range of intelligent programmes.
Protecting your clothes Plastic ribs and rough edged drum holes can damage clothes even in a delicates wash cycle. Miele's drum and ribs are made of very high quality stainless steel and the perforations are specially contoured to prevent snagging in any programme. The ribs are specially contoured to direct the laundry back to the middle of the drum and every single drum manufactured is tested for smoothness using a fine nylon stocking! Easy access drain pump With Miele's easy to open filter, accessed from the front, loose buttons, coins and paperclips are prevented from entering the drain pump and are easily retrieved. On machines with the honeycomb drum the perforations are so small that small objects such as coins and paperclips won't get through the holes, however should the filter need attention a light will flash on the display to warn you.

Check lights and PC Update The sophisticated controls on a Miele machine will let you know if something's wrong. Thanks to the displays, check lights and the engineer's fault diagnostic programme, problems are quickly located. The PC light is used by engineers for the Service interface to the electronics and is also used for updating the machine's programme data to keep up with advances in technology and laundry care. Bearing the strain Bearings are one of the most commonly replaced parts on the average washing machine. Miele's bearings are completely sealed and designed to last for 10,000 hours of vigourous movement. The drum axle is as strong as that found on a prestige motor car. The drum, bearings and axle are guaranteed for 10 years.
Water protection Miele machines are equipped with either the Water control system or the Waterproof system to give you peace of mind in the event of a leak in the machine.
Convenient access Clothes can suffer damage if left to sit in hot water during a power cut. A Miele machine can be drained via the filter in the front of the machine and the door is then easily opened by pulling the ring pull so you can remove the laundry immediately.

New programmes A number of new programmes have been introduced to several models which are designed to make it easy to wash particular types of garments such as shirts, jeans and outerwear. A patented automatic programme has also been introduced on all new models. Solid support Some washing machines have a plastic outer drum suspended on 2 or 3 metal springs. Over time, the movement of the drum causes the springs to wear through the plastic and the drum loses its stability. Miele's high quality stainless steel outer drum is suspended on 4 very strong springs for stress free washing and spinning, even at speeds of up to 1800 rpm. Cast iron support Many machines have a concrete stabiliser to prevent vibration. As the machine ages, the concrete cracks and crumbles so stability is lost and the machine can vibrate its way across the floor. Miele machines have an unbreakable cast iron cradle around the front and back of the drum, guaranteeing complete stability through the machine's life. Indeed, Miele machines are subjected to a spin endurance test lasting 600 hours or the equivalent of 25 days of continuous spinning. Quieter than any other machine The average machine has a mechanically controlled AC motor, which judders in operation and is distinctly audible. The Miele has an electronically controlled DC motor, which runs very smoothly. This not only makes it extremely quiet, but also means it suffers far less stress. It is mounted on the cast iron cradle, rather than the outer drum, so is absolutely still when the machine is in operation.

Anti crease action At the end of the wash programme the drum continues to turn intermittently for half an hour to prevent the washing from settling into creases and folds. The drum can be accessed at any time during this period.
Automatic foam sensing Should overfoaming occur in the drum, the motor automatically reduces the drum rhythm, enabling the foam to subside. Once this has happened, the original drum rhythm is restored and an extra rinse cycle is brought into the programme. This means that good wash results are always achieved.
Hydromatic system All Miele washing machines work on the Hydromatic system where specially designed drum ribs with fins scoop up the water and carry it to the top of the drum, before releasing it onto the laundry from above, ensuring efficient soaking. This means that you use very little water only 42 litres on the top of the range models.
Ball valve A self-activating ball valve saves on detergent. During the wash cycle the floating ball presses itself tightly against the outlet of the suds container to prevent the detergent from escaping into the sump. The detergent remains in the suds container, so you use less and the environment has to cope with less pollution.

Short wash Every programme has a built in guaranteed wash time for the main wash. If however, the items you are washing are not heavily soiled and dont need quite so long, the short wash button can be used to reduce the length of the main wash and shorten the programme.
Soak The soak programme can be used for pre-treating stained cottons, minimum iron garments and delicates. The laundry is steeped in water and detergent at a low temperature combined with a little agitation. It precedes the main wash and is an effective alternative to pre-wash.
Intensive Intensive is a useful feature if the load is significantly soiled. Sports clothing or overalls can benefit from a longer wash programme.
The waterproof system The top of the range models are enhanced by the Waterproof anti-leak system. A double safety valve attached to the stopcock will automatically switch off the water supply and close the washing machine down within seconds of a water leak occuring. It only takes 1 litre of water to activate the system.

The water control system The Water Control System incorporates a float switch to detect leaks, and a time controlled safety check which automatically closes off the water inlet and drains water out of the machine if it does not fill within a specific time-frame.
Child resistant controls All Miele washing machines have a child resistant control panel. Once the programme has been running for six minutes, any alterations to the selected setting are ignored, so little fingers can not upset your wash. Models with electronic system locking will also lock the door and machine when not in use.
Drain filter The drain filter is an excellent example of Mieles user friendly design. It is positioned so that a bowl will fit underneath, so there will be no puddles on the floor.
Sequence indicator lights A series of lights let you know which stage your wash programme has reached.
Check lights Lights will warn you if you have forgotten to turn on the stopcock, if the filter is blocked or if you have used too much detergent.

Navitronic
Shortcut buttons In addition to the multi-function selector switch, the control panel has four shortcut keys for frequently used programmes. The current default programmes can be easily modified and changed or stored as favourites, making the machine truly your own. End of programme function The ideal finishing time can now be programmed into the machine, so the start time is automatically calculated. This eliminates any guesswork so you can be certain that your laundry will be ready to unload at the time that suits you best. The right amount of detergent The detergent dosage is automatically calculated for each wash. The display panel indicates a percentage of the manufacturer's recommended dosage, as well as a graphical representation. And by ensuring you only use as much detergent as you really need you can save money whilst protecting the environment. Low water consumption In keeping with Miele's philosophy for protecting our environment the water consumption for this machine has also been reduced by 3 litres to give a total water consumption of just 42 litres, making this our most energy efficient washing machine to date.

Outerwear We often avoid washing delicate outdoor and sports wear fabrics, such as Gore-Tex , because the sensitive membranes require extra care. With this in mind Miele have developed an Outerwear programme with higher water levels during washing and rinsing, along with a gentle rinse and final spin specifically for these types of garment. The final spin builds up gradually in stages to loosen the fabric and prevent pockets of water developing inside the garment. A special wash rhythm is used to reduce creasing.
Denim Denim garments such as jeans, jackets, shirts and skirts can be awkward to launder and often come out creased and difficult to handle. By introducing a higher water level, reducing spin speeds, and taking away the spins between rinses the Denim programme with temperatures ranging from Cold to 40C has been specifically designed to give perfect wash results for these garments.
Shirts Shirts take up a large proportion of the average laundry basket and are often anuisance when it comes to ironing! By introducing a higher water level, reducing spin speeds, and taking away the spins between rinses the Shirts programme with temperatures ranging from Cold to 60C reduces creasing and helps lighten the load when it comes to ironing both business and casual shirts.
Automatic programme The new Automatic programme provides the user with the ultimate in convenience, and is designed to wash a mixture of both cottons and synthetic fibres, putting a stop to the chore of sorting out the laundry basket. This programme automatically adjusts the washing and rinsing time, rinse spin profile and the level of water in the machine depending on the load type, offering the perfect washing results every time.

Allerwash
A world first for both Allergy sufferers and Miele
The worlds first target model for allergy sufferers the W 3574 WPS Allerwash, with spin speeds up to 1600 rpm features a number of special health sensitive programmes including one for new garments, one for pillows and a hygiene programme to eliminate dust mites and bacteria. Easy loading access with lighting The large porthole door and a drum light makes for easier loading and unloading of your dryer. Because you have a good view into the drum you are less likely to forget an item. Electronic controls All Miele tumble dryers have fully electronic controls, with surface mount technology, designed and made by Miele. There is a choice of single dial and touch button controls across the range and a fully electronic Navitronic Jogshuttle system on the T 4882 C and T 4888 C. Drying stage reached display Miele tumble dryers keep you informed throughout the programme of progress by means of programme sequence indicators or messages in the display. By knowing how dry the laundry is, you can, for example, take individual items out for hand ironing before the rest of the load has dried. Stainless steel drum The drum on a Miele tumble dryer is made of high grade stainless steel to ensure a lifetime of excellent service. The back wall and drum are in one piece, so when clothes are tumbling they do not suffer the wear and tear they would if the back wall was stationary. The unique Miele Honeycomb drum In line with our washing machines, this has now been introduced to the T 4000 series of tumble dryers. It looks slightly different, but takes the same level of excellent care of your laundry as your washing machine. The indents cushion the laundry away from the drum to give even drying results and minimise creasing.
Vented or Condensed? Miele offer a very versatile range of tumble dryers. There are vented dryers which duct the moist air externally to the outside through either the side or the rear of the machine. Then there are condenser dryers for those situations where it is impractical to duct the machine to the outside. These dryers convert the moist warm air into dry air and water which is then collected in a drawer at the front of the machine. If you prefer not to have to empty the container these machines have a pump-away facility so you can drain the condensate out through a waste pipe.

Honeycomb drum The new patented Honeycomb drum is also featured on these tumble dryers so you can be certain your clothes are getting the very best treatment possible. Simple programming The programmes on the T 4888 C and the T 4882 C Navitronic tumble dryers are designed and named to match the W 2888 WPS washing machine Denim, Outerwear and Shirts. So, for instance, if your laundry had just been washed using the Denim programme, the same bundle of clothes can be put straight into the Navitronic tumble dryer using the dryer's Denim programme making the whole process much easier and quicker and guaranteeing perfect results every time.
